Ok, going to start a flame topic...
How many people are sick and tired of the humdity and heat?
My room is upstairs in a house with no central air, so for the past week or so my room has been an oven to me and who ever goes up there. I've been trying everything I can to get it to cool off, but find myself sleeping on a two seat couch... barely fitting. Than going into my mom's car since I don't have gas money, riding around in a car with no air so the windows down... though that only works with the car runs... though these last few days it seems to be catch every light in the path.
So yes, I'm ranting about the weather. Anyone else being annoyed by it as of late?

Our heatwave just broke...so did my fever! It was really weird getting chills when the heat index was 108...plus we finally got rain...very good thing.
'Course that's all kinda missing the point of the flame, but hey *G*

Fortunately I am in a central-air cooled house, but I take one step outside, and I want to run back in. It's a freakin' oven, and I am sensitive to heat (it's more torture working in the kitchen of the fast food place where I work). Monday afternoon I had to get out to do some things, and I did not feel well when I finally got home again. I felt faint, and a little dizzy.
I've gotten sunsick, and heat exhaustion a couple of times before. It's not fun either. The last time that happened was at the state fair in October a few years ago. It wasn't really that hot then, but with the sun beating down on me in the open area as I walked, it was bad. I nearly threw up. I was with my family, and my mom bought me a large drink while I sat in the shade for awhile.

All I can say is-- we went through it last week-- I'm sorry for all of you this week--
and I remember the quote, but can't find the source:
"Everyone complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it."

I'm just thankful I'm no longer living in my parents house where my room (the frog) had no actual heating or ac. In the summer we baked in the winter we could see our breath. I can do a fairly good job of staying out of the heat and considering it was I think 109 degrees yesterday that's a GOOD thing. It's driving my electric bill through the roof though!

I kinda miss living at home right now because my folks have an awesome air conditioner in the living room and another one up in my room! I'm definitely spending the weekend there while they're away!

Sweet merciful earwax on a wafer, who put Cialis in the thermometer?! It's so hot out there my sweat's got sweat. It's so hot, I heard the mayor of DC has started wearing his Teflon toupee. Don't get me started...
Of course, even when it's a million degrees outside, they still won't even let you drink bottled water on the DC Metro, even if you're at an outdoor station. Are they KIDDING?!

Raka Geez, on the London transit system, that's one of the things they suggest that people do when the weather gets warm, make sure they carry a bottle of water with them.

Ha I laugh at this thread cause it's funny in a way. We in Texas deal with this weather every year. But amazing how others whine about it! Then again in Houston we couldn't really handle snow! LOL it lasts for 5 mintues here and appears 4-7 years at a time! But I pity those in CA and in NY.

Yes, Raph in the snow...brings to mind a classic picture Aig once did of Raph going for the mailbox buried in a snow bank.... I can't complain too much, we've been lucky here. Thanks to the fog, and the breezes off the ocean, it hasn't been as hot as inland.

If you refer to the pic I think you refer to, it wasn't a mailbox, it was Raph braving the worst blizzard in 40 years to put birdseed in a feeder for a little sparrow...

oh yeah!! Sorry!! It was a bird feeder. I know I have that picture somewhere on my computer...just hadn't looked at it in a while. So for now, everyone flames the heat! But just wait! Half a year from now, there'll be a flame post for snow. <smirk>

Actually, it's not just a "Texans can handle the heat, New Yorkers are wimps" kind of thing. They've done medical studies, and it turns out Texans can actually sweat more than folks in the Northeast. No joke! Northeasterners don't sweat as much, which makes them more prone to heat injuries.
So Northeasterners aren't wimps: we just regulate our temperatures differently.

Raka I wonder what they'd say about northern midwesterners...it must be a climactic adjustment thing. Northeast is far cooler and damper than the inland parts of Texas...though not nearly as cold as the northern midwest gets, but it's a dry, dry cold when winter hits up here. 'Tis why I love my summer time. *G*
