Mess with the best, get bapped like the rest!

Heh, don't worry...not talking about this board. Not even a TMNT related board. It's another board that I frequent a lot and used to enjoy visiting. Sure, there were the occasional flare ups and such but it wasn't so bad. Then things started to get out of hand and the owners of the board started moderating all posts. It slowed things down, but did keep out a lot of the trolls. Things are flaring up again and it's just driving me crazy! There's one poster who is opinionated, racist and calls everyone the most childish of names if they disagree with him. He's also made some legit posts and isn't always bad. He has a following, a 'fan club' as I call them. It's not that they like him, or agree with him...but they like to goad him on. They make posts that they know will get a response, then they complain when he takes the bait. Lately, they've decided to stop doing this. They're going to ignore him. So they say. And then they'll say it again. And again. And again. They sound like frickin' 6 year olds. I'm expecting them to start saying "Nyah nyah, we're ignoring you" at any point. Kinda defeats the purpose when they have to keep announcing what they're doing. It's like they're saying "Hey, pay attention to me, I'm ignoring him!" Their "Don't forget, we're ignoring him." posts are almost as irritating as his posts. If I was him, I'd be sitting back and laughing at them. (and I'm sure he is) This message board, dedicated to a comic/cartoon and frequented by a number of younger people, acts more mature than that group of supposed adults do! ARGH!!! (I couldn't resist, today, in response to another poster making a top 10 list related to Mr. Attitude, I posted a "Top ways to ignore someone on a message board" - 3 items. Should be interesting to see if anyone says anything)

Gee, how strange. Reminds me of the joys of usenet newsgroups and the trolls, therein. Wondering what your three whole items of advice are to ignore people... And on the other side, the weird thing about not replying to posts is that it can mean anything. It can also mean the untimely demise of a thread. > It can also mean not seeing the post, not being there to reply in the first place, not knowing what to say in a response, not really wanting to reply, but lurk instead, and deliberately ignoring the post. I don't think I've had enough caffeine today, my brain is like... jello that has too much pineapple in it. Won't gel, you know? I'm so not gellin'...

Hmm...I think my points were something like:
Rules for ignoring someone on a message board:
1) Don't reply to their posts. 2) Don't repeatedly say you're going to ignore said person. 3) Don't repeatedly reference said person in other posts.

Reads the replies to Raph's post... hmm So like.... Raph, I'm ignoring your posts. I mean it! I am REALLY ignoring your posts. And look, just to prove I am ignoring your posts, I am telling you by replying to you that I am ignoring your posts about ignoring posts...and stuff. And you do bring up a good point about these boards--great conversations can be had here about serious or silly things.

That's EXACTLY what they do, Leo!
They really do sound like little kids, "Nyah nyah, we're ignoring you, 'cause you're a meanie head" or something.
BLARGH!
Luckily, we don't seem to have any of the "I'm right, you're wrong, you suck" types here...

Psst....Raph....but you are a meanie head!! oh, wait...this thread is all about ignoring! Drat! I messed up again. Some people never finishing growing up past the junior high school mentatility. That's what all the teachers I work with tell me. Something happens at that 7-8th grade age, and some of the kids get nasty, and then some of them get stuck there mentally for the rest of their lives. And then they haunt message boards and chat rooms to get their fix. And you know, meanie head is something I could soooo hear Mikey calling Raph when they were younger.... "Spliiiinter, Raph's being a meanie head!!"

I used to visit a g ameshow message board. Knowledgable people, but acted like kids most of the time.
I have a slight learning disability, spelling isn't my strong point, type 90 words per minute, and no spell checker on the browser. Can you guess what happend?
That's right... they can bash my spelling and grammar, but as soon as I retaliate in kind, it gets 'tiring' that I'm defending myself? Give me a F'ing break.

Sounds Familiar. I actually left a message board because there was one person who kept attacking every little thing I said and when there was no mods doing anything about it, I just got up and left. I only went back after I found out that the person wasn't posting there anymore.
Sad really. The sad thing is that there was no reason other than "you're wrong and I'm right there for, you're stupid."
I have to say, people need to grow up online. I find it sad that I'm 22 and I act older than most who are older than me (ranging between 27 on to people old enough to be my mother) on message boards. It's just something that bugs me.

Or when people don't post anywhere for a long time and then just come in to stick a dig on someone.
