Just go to the comics section of www.ninjaturtles.com and check out the volume 2 segment. It'll explain everything.

It's still going. Volume 4 is on hiatus (the current volume of the canon TMNT), but stories that take place between Vol. 2 and Vol. 4 are still coming out in "Tales of the TMNT" Vol. 2.

It depends on who you ask, dude. In all honesty, your best bet would be to e-mail Dan Berger and/or Peter Laird and they can give you all the info you want as they are the people who write, draw and produce the series.

The current canon according to Peter Laird (co-creator of the Turtles) is all of Volume 1 (except for the oddball out-of-studio issues), all of Volume 2, all of Volume 4, and both volumes of Tales of the TMNT. Apart from a few miscellaneous crossovers/one-shots, and specials, that's it. Volume 3 could have happened, but according to Laird it never happened -- we just imagined that Mirage publically told us that Volume 3 was canon.

Is Volume 3 the Image series? I picked up a trade of the first five issues maybe a couple of years ago and I'm not sure I like it as much as the Mirage comics. The art seems to be all over the place and hard to follow.

The Image series was originally meant to be a continuation of the comic book but after a couple of years and poor sales, the series was pulled.
