Well, I do only because I can't watch TMNT on weekends since my job and the timing of the show conflict. Times, it's nice to have them to refer back to when you and your friends have some sort of argument over something that happened in the series (kinda like Hex and I end up having). So I guess it would depend on your situation.

It all depends on why you're collecting the DVDs. If you're collecting with the intent on reselling for a profit in the future, then I'd say no. I doubt the regular series DVDs are going to become the hot collectibles of the future. If you're collecting because you enjoy the shows and want to watch them more regularly than when they air on tv, then, yes, by all means, collect away.

I get the DVDs because I like to be able to have a copy of the shows for myself, and I enjoy having them in clear quality on DVD. I'd say the decision comes down to how much you enjoy the show that you'd want to own all the DVDs, or just certain ones, and what your budget is for such things.

This is something I do feel strong about, I totally believe that the DVDs are worth collecting, esp with how cheap they are compared to trying to buy movies or animes on DVDs. These are about $10 to $20 cheaper than most DVDs out there! So really they're not something that'll break the bank too hard, esp if you buy when they come out, instead of getting a bunch at once. Right now we're stareing at the original series DVDs out there, something really good to have since this show isn't even out on TV anymore. So the only way to view is old VHS tapes (which most are fuzzy by now and worn down, depending on how much you watched them) or getting the DVDs, and with the DVDs ya don't have to worry about them taking as much room as VHS and it's so much easier to find the episoides you're up for watching. It's a good vaule seeing these DVDs run from any as low as $10 to $15... and at Sam's Club I once saw Volumes 1 and 2, on sale as a two pack for $10! So you can find these cheap if you keep your eyes open for them. The new series is coming out on DVD, though there's deff a bonus for the more sales they get. In Austrail, because the single DVDs sold so well they got a full 1st season box set. The states didn't get that... why? Because our sales wasn't high enough. I know even though I bought all of the DVDs as they came out, I would deff go after a set, esp if they put extras on there. The better the sales, the more likely we'll see bonus features... the more likely other stuff will come out for us. Though as long as people are picky about the DVDs... thinking "Well I taped it off TV" or "I caught that on my computer"... we're going to stare at these DVDs with just a few episoides bunched onto it. I'm excited about this Season 4 set! Know why? Cause we're getting some features, I mean not much though still they're doing something again. The best DVDs they came out was the first four with interviews with Peter Laird on them, and of course the Battle Nexus DVD that has the interview with Peter and Stan on it! I enjoy the features, and I enjoy the ease of having the DVDs there when I want to watch them. I carry them in a CD book, and leave the covers here at home as display. So that I can go around with all the DVDs... if someone wants to watch some TMNT new or old... even the anime, I usually have them with me. That was something I didn't do with VHS! Hehehe Any how there's my two cents... I do think the DVDs are worth buying. Hehe should of had this as a poll

I admit, I don't buy the DVDs of the new series very much. I'd love to, really, but having 4-6 episodes for over $20 each (which is the going rate around here)...well, it's just not worth it. I'm getting entire seasons of other shows for just a bit more than that. (Xena & Hercules, for instance, were $60-$70 or so for 22 hour long episodes, commentary and a ton of extras - 8 or 9 discs!)
When you factor in the shelf space required...I can't afford it. I know it's a catch 22 - they won't release season box sets without the other sets selling, but what can you do?

On classic cartoon DVDs: -Season One/Vol. 1 is a must-have for any TMNT fan, imho. It's the best-done set of episodes from the '87 series, it explains the beginnings of the TMNT and their ongoing feud with Shredder and that alien brain Krang, and it is the birth of Turtle-mania in the late '80s-early '90s. -Volume 2 (all of season 2) is pretty good as well. I recommend it. Vol. 3 and 4 were OK (I still got them and I still watch 'em though because I am a TMNT nut and I can't get enough.... and I'm addicted to being 8 years old again). Vol. 4 has a bunch of episodes where the regular voice actors for Raphael and Donatello are missing so those are kind of annoying. I just got Vol. 5 and that's a pretty good set, though not as good as 1 and 2.
On current cartoon DVDs: I think the early DVDs are a complete rip off. $15 for three episodes! The only special features of note were brief interviews with Peter Laird, where he just talks about each episode on the DVD, and a short but cool making of the TMNT 'toon, the same exact feature on all of the DVDs. I brought all those three-epers used on amazon.com for $5-7 incl. shipping. The earlier DVDs are dirt-cheap now.
As time has gone on they got smarter and have been releasing 5-6 eps on a disc for $10-13 (and no special features). Still not great, but good enough for me to open my wallet and pick up a new copy as they come out. I don't mind supporting TMNT as long as the price is fair. As a comsumer I refuse to be ripped off with those earlier DVDs, so that's why I bought those ones used.
So, yes, I have all the cartoon DVDs that have been released. It does take up a whole row of space on my shelf, but it's worth it. I'm so excited about the current cartoon's "Season 4" set being released next month. That is the best deal yet.
You didn't mention which of the current cartoon DVDs you already have, but I definitely recommend picking up the DVDs from the first season. To watch through the whole season in order is amazing. Return to New York is my favorite set out of Season 1. From seasons 2 and 3, which are also great, The Battle Nexus, City at War and Return of the Ultimate Ninja are most worthwhile.

I love getting the original toon DVDs! I went to Best Buy to see if they had Volume 5, but it looked like they didn't have it. However, I'm sure I'll get it in the near future!

I have picked up "Hun on The Run" and I have to say that for the first time its been worth my $18:95 including tax, as it contains 6 eps over 2 hours long. Finally a TMNT dvd worth the money. I have not watched it yet but iam sure i will like it alot. I have collected 11 DVD's on the current TMNT series, 1 VHS of classic series. its also hard to find the classic series here in town. I have fallen behind its hard to find the older ones here in town and even the newer ones. but all in good time

It's true. It is harder to find the older DVDs. I had to special order all of mine. The two places that I would recommend getting them from is www.bestbuy.com or amazon (but I'd be very careful of Amazon since I do know of people who have been burned by amazon and a few other sites like that). Also, some stores will special order DVDs for you.

Wow, that sucks, I'm sorry you got screwed like that. I've only purchased 1 or 2 things brand new from Amazon and had no problem. However, I've purchased probably between 50 and 75 items used through other users posting their items on sale, mostly college textbooks, a few video games, and a ton on DVDs, incl. most of my TMNT DVD collection, and I've had a really good experience doing that. I just check the user rating to make sure it's a positive one before I buy the item. Also, MOST users are pretty good about mentioning in the item description if there are any scratches on the DVDs or cases. The few times I have had a minor problem with an order I was able to contact the seller, who promptly either fixed the mistake or issued a refund. Seriously, if you're considering buying some of the older DVDs from the current series, I'd give amazon.com another shot and buy them used, oherwise it's going to be ridiculously expensive. You can get "Shredder Strikes Back" for $0.79 right now (plus, i'd say, $3.50 S&H). http://www.amazon.com/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Shredder/dp/B0000W5J9U/sr=1-26/qid=1157083978/ref=sr_1_26/002-5586420-2872057?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

After watching this DVD I hav to say its the best one to date. The only flaw I had with it is that I noticed the eps are not in order frm when they were aired. This can get very confusing for someone qho wants to fallow the series. one ep on this dvd Leo's shell was fine then the very next ep it was damaged with out me knowing like come on. Anyone know what season and ep Leo's shell was damaged??
