This movie picks up shortly about "TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze." Still in the abandoned Subway Lair they inhabited in the previous film, the TMNT soon utilize a Sceptre to travel back in time to Feudal Japan.

What did you think of this film and the DVD?

At first I didn't care for this movie because it was so different than what I was used to with TMNT.  Some of the dialog does suffer however.  But as I watched it more and more it continued to grow on me.  The reason why is because it was an original idea; the turtles going back in time to ancient Japan and helping fight with a rebellion.  Also it's almost like they see their roots in a way because a lot of their lifestyle that Splinter as shown them has had a Japonese background.  I think because of this they felt like they fit in with that world.  Hence why some of turtles were reluctant to leave ancient Japan and go back to the life they had before, where they always had to hide away and were not accepted by society.  Mikey seemed to carry a lot of emotions in this one.  Feeling like he belonged somewhere, having an attachment to Mitsu, then having to leave all of it.  You also get to see Raph's soft side come out esp. when he got close to that kid Yoshi.

There was good fight scenes throughout.  There seemed to be more fighting going on in this movie than in TMNT 2.  I also enjoyed some off the goofy humor.  However what I didn't like were the costumes.  If you watch closely you can see that in the fight scenes they had different 'faces' on.  The faces didn't move at all, very stagnate.  But in the talking scenes they had 'moving' faces and their beaks looked different.  Plus they had way too many freckles for my liking. All in all, it's not my favorite of the three films, but I've definately come to appreciate it a lot more over the years.

This movie also had to grow on me after several viewings. I especially loved Elias' performance as Casey (well, his whole return made me happy!) and how Mikey and Raph grew attached to other people in the past. I can't remember what's on the dvd (as special features), but I liked the menu! Happy/Smile

For what it's worth, that movie had a great storyline! I used to spend countless hours thinking up ideas for a follow-up story!
