Here's something to ponder about. For 1 million dollars, would you give up TMNT for one year? That includes watching the cartoon (old or new), the movies, wearing clothing, buying the toys, reading books, listening to the music, visiting the forums, visiting message boards, visiting fan web sites, drawing art, reading fan fiction, talking about it to friends, and going to conventions with TMNT guests/friends. Basically, could you give it up entirely for one full year? It would be extremely hard, but for one year, I think I could do it.

I honestly think I would lose my mind to stress without this fandom to come home and relax to. I would miss all my friends and watching the show and reading the comics.... I just don't think I could do it for any amount of money.... because I would be rich but so unhappy.... it wouldn't really matter.

I agree with Mibu. The Turtles are my escape. They, and Leo especially, make everything in my day brighter. No amount of money in the world could convince me to give them up for any period of time.

There's no way on earth I could ever give up the guys for a year, no matter the amount of money. They're too much a part of my life. So I agree with the others. There are some things in life worth more than money.

Seeing that I NEED the money right now... No, I don't think I could or would do that. I like too many people from the TMNT fandom and I always like to see what the boys get themselves into next.

Hah, OK, I'll be the unpopular one here.... Yes, I'd sell out and give up TMNT for a year for a million dollars. I definitely would miss the turtles a lot.... A LOT... but I have my other obsession -- hockey -- to fall back on, and once the year is up, I can enjoy TMNT as much as I want. I could retire if I really wanted to, so I'd have all the time in the world to devote to TMNT fandom, and I'd have the money to buy any TMNT stuff I wanted... well, except of course for TMNT itself.
I definitely understand the sentiment of those who say no way though. Losing something you love for a long period is torture.
...
So, if someone who has a TMNT tattoo agrees to give the turtles up for a year, does he/she have to have his/her tattoo removed too?

I dunno if I could, because I have my TMNT fan fiction that I work on 24-7; not to mention I'm on like this forum, Mikey's and about 6 or more TMNT groups on MySpace!

If someone's offering...I'll take the challenge! I think I could do this easily, though I'm not as active a fan as many here. It would be hard for me not to watch the show for a year though. The comics I can't afford anyway and I usually catch up with them once a year at conventions... A million dollars though? A MILLION DOLLARS? You could buy all of Kevin Eastman's original art for that! Not to mention a house or six.

Not a chance. I could easily spend an entire year obsessing over my beloved Washington Capitals and ignoring TMNT, and a million bucks is a million bucks, but...no. Make it a billion, and I might think about it for a second. But for a paltry seven figures, no, nyet, nah, nope, nein, and no way, Jose.

I don't believe I'd want to go through with something that requires me to stop doing something that doesn't earn money as opposed to doing something that may earn it...

I don't believe at all in having to give up something that doesn't hurt anyone else around you... for money or any other reason. If something makes you happy, and no one is being hurt... than you should be allowed to enjoy that part of your life with nothing comeing between you and it.
I think for someone to even make up an offer like that is just a dirty blow, to say "give up what you care about and we'll do this for you" instead of doing that, they should go out there and go after the people who are doing things that would hurt others. "Give up this thing, because it hurts not just you but those around you... and we'll do this" makes a lot more sense to me.

For 1 million dollars, would you give up TMNT for one year?I could if it was just TMNT. There's enough Transformers stuff happening right now to keep me more than entertained. That, and RL stuff with the baby too, of course. If it were all geeky hobbies like TMNT, TF's, comics, watching anime... then yeah, that would be tough.. I need to have a little bit of geeky silliness in my boring life to keep me in good sprits. Unless... I could then take that money and travel the world for a year.. that would keep me plenty amused as travel is one of my fav non-geeky hobbies! But... a year isn't that long, I agree with Splintered. Neither is the time it takes to be pregnant (cause I had to not eat sushi, seafood high in mercury, undercooked meat, liquor, certain meds, etc) It can be done.

I'd have to say I'd do it and probably be able to. As horrible as it sounds, Fast Forward just isn't making me scream "what happens next?" and since that's the season we're in, I'd say I'd do it. Now Saiyuki...I'd just have to drive everyone crazy with Saiyuki talk. Besides, I've got all the DVDs but I don't have all the manga so YAY! SOMETHING I CAN DRIVE EVERYONE CRAZY WITH! *snickers* Times, I've also got Gundam Wing and Samurai Troopers (my two other loves).
Why would I do it? Well, let's face it, I'm a poor, in debt college student so why not try? Would make a good experiment though...I won't try it though since I don't have a good reason.

I guess I should come clean. I got this idea from a Disney board I go to. Someone wondered if, for 1 million dollars, would you give up going to any of the Disney theme parks forever. Forever, as in, never again, as in, for the rest of your life! I flat-out said no way. Forever means I could never go back to Disneyland with friends or family members, plus I could never see what the other parks are like. I still haven't been to Disney World, and I'd LOVE to one day visit the one in Paris, even Tokyo!
As for the TMNT, I could have gone a whole year without them, but it was due to them having a major downtime. It was at the summer of 1996 (the end of the original series) up until the summer of 1997 (finding the official TMNT site online). The only thing that kept me going was the Archie comics. If it weren't for the Archies, I probably wouldn't have had any involvement with them for a whole year. Although, the way I felt for them even back then, I would have done something to keep the fandom alive in me, such as drawing pictures, watching the cartoon/movies on tape, or talking to friends who shared the same interest!
Whenever I see these type of questions come up, I assume people are trying to figure out how far would you go to sacrifice the things you love. That's what I was wondering about with TMNT. I'm glad to see there's a lot of "No way!" votes. It shows that your love is unconditional to the Turtles, and that's a very good thing.

I'd NEVER be able to do it. Giving up TMNT is like me giving up BSB. NOT gonna happen! Besides, I'd probably forget & end up wearing my shirt. *laughs* Then I'd definitely lose the money. Haha. Though, I'm not too fond of the Fast Forward series - they're not horrible, but c'mon! They replaying episodes ALREADY!!!!!!!!! Yeesh!!!!!!

We were worned about the episoides repeating early on, what they showed us before was a sneak peek of the first 3 episoides... starting September 30th though, we'll get to see new episoides... and I won't judge this fulll season by those episoides... the thing that I do gotta say is, if we could put up with dark and serious as it was last season, we could do a season of light and humor.... to try and balance out the series.

And actually, at this point, there's no way I could give up TMNT, because it's such an integral part of my poker game. Yes, I play poker. Yes, I'm a darn good player, too. Won $100 in an online tournament Saturday afternoon, in fact. My favorite line after taking down a large pot: "Who's your Sensei?" I'm always playing in TMNT shirts, and have raised more than a few eyebrows by bringing one of my Giant Raph figures to "watch over me" at the final table when I get that far. Take away my TMNT, and my poker legend goes right down the tubes.

Give up Tmnt for a lot of money? No way! I have too much fun with them to give them up.And I seriously doubt someone would give me money that big just for that reason.

For a million dollars I would yes. Why? Because so much good could come of it. If weighing the balance of the two.. I am not particularly active in the fandom.. although I am trying to be a little more social these days.. and considering what I could use that money for. Finishing school, debt free, I could get a comfortable house and a car.. and then when I have enough left over for retirement I would give the rest to a worthy cause. If such an offer was handed to me by way of fate I would have to take it, simply because life is presenting me a path I had never been on before. Such an offer is not meant to be passed up but pursued for the sake of experience

Hoo boy. I never did answer this one. Thanks Kaz, for bringing it back to my attention.... Well, I'll come clean. I could. I could give up watching the show for a year. I could put off getting the comics for a year. I could refrain from buying any products for a year. Why? Well, because in my mind I'd get it all back when the year ended. It wouldn't be anything new to me. There was a point in my life, not too many years ago, when I was too poor to buy anything other than the basics for survival. And the show? It came on every Saturday back then, and I had to work every Saturday. And getting it taped was a story in itself. Gack. I'm glad those days are behind me. But there's a loophole in this contract. It doesn't say I can't think about TMNT. It doesn't say I can't live in my head with TMNT. I can see them in my mind's eye. So yeah. Fork over the dough. I can do this for a year. Easy.

And I just noticed I never voted for my own topic! I posted this in September, 2006 when I was heavy into Disney, well how about that?! Actually, in November, 2006, I rediscovered The Great Mouse Detective by merely renting it, see, I didn't even own the film, how terrible of a fan I am! I sat and watched it and um...what came out of that viewing has changed my life drastically! Seriously, it's running neck and neck with my beloved turtles, for those who weren't aware, Basil became a huge cartoon hero of mine when the film came out in 1986! But then, in 1987, I discovered the TMNT and it was a twenty-year addiction without ever once stopping for a breather! But, at this point in time, to get the 1 mill and change my life. To never have to work again, get out of debt, get a nice house, a second car, learn to breathe normally again...hmm...like Ninjara said, I can still think of the TMNT! Can't I just be put into a deep sleep for a year so that I can constantly think of the guys and not once slip?

Yes, Brin. A year is feasible. But the 'forever' contract, when you think about it, is a no-win situation. At least for the party that is the signer. Because the money would be laid down on that person's poor cold bod' when they died. In which case, their friends and realtives could reap the benefits, if they set up a trust or whatever. Ahhhh, but then we come to the trickster 'forever' contract. In that one, 'forever' is meant literally.....everyone's 'forever'......so the money would never materialize. And if we go as far as the world ending, well, for sure the money would never get passed out. Yeah. You gotta always read the fine print.

Not fer all the money in the world. Ditto. I GOTTA have my Turtles' fix at LEAST ONCE a day. MORE, if I can. No way in SHELL would I go WITHOUT my green guys for a year, even if I DID get a million dollars! Heh, my brother would say I was crazy for that, but oh, well.

Would I give up the Turtles for a million dollars? Shell no! I'd never be able to survive without them. That means I wouldn't be able to watch my DVDs and that would be hard. No way! Give me Leo and the others over one million bucks. Plus, I wouldn't be able to write fan fiction which is a big part of my life. Turtles rule!
