Hey everyone, durning the repeat time we can do reviews of episoides that aired before the TMNT-L forum was brought together.

This episoide is one of the most well known Donatello episoides out there, it's also the only episoide that we've seen them go in and CHANGE the ending!   To make Peter Laird happy, he wasn't happy with where it ended originally.   So he got in there and had them change it.... the ony way to find the ORIGINAL ending of the episoide is by finding someone who has it on tape.

In this episoide Donatello goes down to fix the water Heater at the "Second Time Around" shop and meets the new person who's living down there, Kirby.  Kirby (played by Mike Pollock) is an artist with a magical pen and when he draws something it comes to life for a few minutes than disappears.  Donatello gives it a try with a stick person... and is highly amused.

Kirby shows Donatello a portal that he drew which never disappeared, and when Don realized you can go through it he had to check it out.  Only to find that everything that Kirby did a drawing of, was alive in this other world.  And there was about to be a huge war between a town of people in the world and monsters that was drawn.  So Don and Kirby join the good fight.

This issue STRONGLY reflects the comic it was drawn from, which is "Donatello" (will link this to the right comic when it has a topic *G*)

Please talk about this episoide, what did you like... what you didn't like... ect....  anything you would of changed and do you think they should of gave the option for both endings on the DVD?  Are you surprised that Peter Laird would jump in and have them change it, cause the ending didn't go where he wanted it to?

I really liked this Donatello episode.  It gave a new use of his mind which I have to say was very interesting.  There were a few things I didn't understand like if everything that Kirby drew came to life, then why was it that when Kirby drew Don with the robotic arm like attachment, a second Donatello with that attatchment didn't come to life?  Sorry, Reading in too much to the plot again.  *laughs nervously* I don't really remember the original ending to this but I did like the new ending.  I would have liked to see both endings to this episode on the DVD but who knows, maybe they'll do a special edition box set and put that ending on as well.

I know of only one ending that I've seen, and it's probably the changed/extended one. He returns upstairs after getting Kirby's note, and we get to see what he wrote as Donny stares forlornly out the window. I really feel for him here.

The same ending that's on the DVD was aired on television (CN) because I have it on tape as well.

There was a different ending when it first aired on TV on 4Kids....

Maybe a Donnie fan can remember what it was, because I am fuzzy on what happened....

I just remember when they replayed the episode with the new ending right before the DVD came out and what a huge deal the new ending was.....

The original air date ending just stopped when Don read the note from Kirby in the basement.  I was surprised because I knew there was more to it in the comic with him going upstairs, bumping into a ticked off Raph and we then see the note up close.  When it aired a second time, they continued showing the scene and, of course, I wasn't taping it since I already had it on tape!  Not nice!   Mad

A great all round tale for Donnie, a 5 star ep...all that and Raph right outta the shower in a towel WOOOHOO! I never saw the original ending, the added ending was just...DEEP. *hugs donnie*

Figured it wouldn't be right without Mirage's word, so I'm going to add their coverage of each episoide links here as well. They have screen shots there as well, for anyone looking for any. Remember if you have screne shots you'd wish to share you may share in this topic.  Very Happy/Big Grin

I will admit that I'm probably the only one who didn't like the ep. It just wasn't that good, IMHO. I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but I just want to be honest.

I don't see why ya should get flamed for anything like not liking an episode, everyone knows you can't please everyone.  So not one episode out there is loved by every fan.

Personally I really do enjoy this episode and gave it a 5, I like how close the look and feel was to the original comic book.  And it really blew me away when they went back to this episode and did the longer ending.

Made this topic into a poll, so people can rate it at the star they think this episode deserves. Happy/Smile Will be doing each episode like this, one at a time.

Also added another DVD which it can be found on.

I've only seen the short ending (where Don doesn't go upstairs).

why was it that when Kirby drew Don with the robotic arm like attachment, a second Donatello with that attatchment didn't come to life?

I know - my first thought was that Kirby was going to create an army of Dons. That would have been a pretty crazy twist on the four-brothers thing.

And an interesting bit of trivia - in this episode, Don draws a stick figure with his right hand. But in FF "Timing is Everything", he writes the letter to Mike and Raph with his left hand!

Oh, one more thing. Does anyone else think that the gargoyle creature (that Don sees in the basement before meeting Kirby) manages to look like a bad special effect even in animation?
