Hey everyone. I think it would be cool to have a role-playing forum on this site. Would anyone else be interested? Mod-squad, how about it?

Hey, moved this over to the Gaming section, since that's what it relates to.

As for an RP forum, it could be interesting. The hard part is deciding who gets which role.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum and thanks for moving it! When I see "gaming" I automatically think of video games and nothing else! *blushes* Anyway, I think a separate role-playing forum could have some potential if enough people were interested. Just wanted to see if there was any interest in it. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of RPing here so I thought maybe a separate forum for it might encourage those who are interested.

Just to let you know, the idea of an RPG and how to do it is being discussed.

If anyone has any storyline ideas, let me know...

And like Thread Killer isn't one part role playing?
 LOL  LOL  LOL

Just kidding!

While I have done a lot of role playing games, I don't have the computer games. I've been doing role play games off and on since ... 1983.  Razz

The biggest problem I see with this sort of thing online for chat rooms or message boards is the time zone factor. And then people's schedules, if you want something where everyone is active at the same time in order to play.

The next is the rules. Making sure you do have some guidelines everyone agrees to. A lot of the online informal games start out with the basic characters and their abilities, but then others bring in super or magic high powered characters, the whole thing escalates, and the original starting characters can't do anything anymore. They either have to warp their characters to compensate, or go find something else to do.
Everyone should agree on what is permitted in terms of powers, and the player group should be balanced enough for a good story.

The most successful role plays I was in for IRC, table top, or LARP, had a story plot that had a beginning, a middle, and yes, an end. And took into consideration things for every character to be able to contribute to the success. Was flexible enough to handle sudden surprises the players could do to the Story Teller's work. And the Story Teller actually wanted the characters to succeed, did not make it painfully impossible and insult everyone if the players weren't catching on to key plot points. (I always say it's the Story Teller's fault if after working and working on a solution, no one gets the trick to solving it.)

That's what we were talking about, too, Leo - no grand epic storylines, just some quickie campaigns, with a designated GM to make sure that things don't get too out of hand.

I've done message board RPGs and have yet to have one that worked out well, because they were too free flowing. We even had one player who would tell everyone else how they should react to her posts...how they should interact with her characters. We don't need that here.

i agree on there having to be rules regarding things like special powers and stuff like that. its no fun playing an rpg with someone in it who can do almost everything in one or two posts (hope everybody here knows what i mean)

I'd personally would like to see a seperate section of the forum devoted to it.

Of course, how to pull it off properly and deciding if it should be freeflowing or more round robin style is the problem.

Eh, we should just secretly divide everyone up into good and evil teams and see what happens. =p

I like the blend of personalities and the abundance of intelligent life on this forum, which is why I'd love to RP in this community. If anyone else is interested we could at least start a new thread to get a game going. I haven't RPed that much and therefore would not consider myself a strong candidate to be in charge of running the game, but I'd be thrilled to participate.

If there's not enough interest here for a game, does anyone know of any games that need more players? Also, if anyone else is looking for a game to join, turtlepowerrp on livejournal is looking for more players.

I RP all the time on my forum but it's mostly made up as we go, once one major event is complete, we'll conjure up more ideas...and just keep going.
Which we're doing right now.
I play Raphers...

I wanna play a 2k7 raph though, I wanna try to capture his intensity.

Hmm that might be good considering the fact that there are hardly TMNT rpg games. Though i am not a fan on rpg, at once stage it controlled my life, that stage though is over. For others it might be good though. The rpg also will be hard because the characters are based on 4 turtle, a rat and the shredder. You might have to customize a turtle up.

uhh.. you don't need an entire rp of multiple ninja turtles lol.

That's what original characters are for. The many tmnt universes are full of many characters..and still the ability to create your own. I find the rpg crowd can sometimes be "intense" people, but sometimes the most creative people are drawn to that kind of thing. Someone has to be "running" the show, that is.. not telling everyone how to have their character react.. but sorta.. guiding a story or a theme.. and making some minor decisions.. or else it can become anarchy pretty damn fast.

Number one rule I have learned over the years when it comes to gaming?  Keep you and your character seperate. Like a good book you can get into it.. cry, laugh.. feel their feelings.. but already remember to "ground" down from your experince. Just like anything that has an element of escapism, I wouldn't recommend it for people with highly addictive personalities or poor boundries.

If people are healthy and can keep a balance and take it to a healthy and productive place, RPG can be some of the most memorable projects a writer or artist can work on. It literally lets you see things from a new POV if you'e open to the experience. And it's just damn fun.

You might need a turtle creation still. You can't just pick Leo, Raph, Donnie or Mikey, that would be really ridiculous. However they could take the items off them, say when you create your turtle you will have to buy him a band and a weapon. Though I strongly agree on what you said about the addictive problems.
