Hey everyone,

This topic is testing the feilds of one of the things I'm thinking may be cool for Turtle Con 2009.  I'll like to invite the Palladium crew to Turtle Con 2009, not just for a booth though I'd like it if we can get them to run an RPG while there.  What I'm trying to figure out is,  if we set a time aside to RP with the crew from Palladium, how many people would be interested?

This poll will remain open till time when the shedual for the convention is being made, so that new comers can take part in it.

If you have sudjestions... or don't like the idea please feel free to talk about it here.  I'll like to hear what everyone thinks.

I honestly don't know about RPGing as I have never done it.... but if anyone is willing to bring Systems and we could have some staff to watch them maybe we could set up a gaming room and play some of the video games also??

Or just have contests on the games or something.

I would bring my Gamcube and I plan on getting a Wii if they release any Turtles games for it.

I was deff thinking of a game room for the computer stuff, though this is for the RPG books.   Since they played such a huge part in TMNT history I'll like to invite them to the convention, and if they come I'd like to see about getting Kevin to run a game.  I don't their there's prizes for RPG's though.

I know some conventions have gaming areas, I was at one that I know for sure had an RPG area, Motor City Comic Con has an area where people are playing card games (not sure if they RPG too or not), so I know it can be done at conventions.  And if we get Kevin to run it, it should be really good.  I know I would sit in to learn how to play the RPG books, though I dout I'll have time to do so.

I think it'd be a good idea however, whoever's running this along with any experienced people in the game would have to be VERY patient with those who have never played but would like to learn unless there will be different games going on, one for experienced people, the other for inexperienced people.

The people we're looking at having run this, would be use to helping beginners and teaching, seeing as how they started the book and do other conventions

Infact they'll be at Youmacon this weekend.

I'd have to agree that the RPing would be a nice addition.  It could easily be arranged for people to hold games throughout the weekend, with certain people there to help new players get the hang of things.  As for prizes, RPing really doesn't leave room for it as there isn't really a way to determine a winner when it's not eh focus of said game.

Welcome Casey!!

I agree about the prizes! If you're going to give them out, I think it has to be to everyone that finished the game session (not counting if their character got killed off due to bad dice rolls or whatever), and contributed as a character to the fun. Picking out a best player can be done, but it's always painful to do. And for brand new players trying it for the first time? Cruelty!
(Having done some RPGs and LARPs at Conventions and been selected for awards for few times, I always felt uncomfortable because others had done good jobs in role playing too.)

As for gaming, there should be different games set up for levels of experience. And the description for the session should describe what kind of player is needed: beginner, intermediate, advanced. (And which set of rules/edition is being used.) That way, someone who is advanced knows if they are getting into a game with beginners, and they might choose to do so to help out or something. But at least they won't get peeved off while basic game play is being explained.
Or due to the unknowns on the numbers of role players, you might want to set up just two kinds of levels, beginner and experienced? Clearly the storyline for a beginner game needs to be a lot simpler and shorter to solve, because there's going to be more time spent on explanations than gaming at times. An advanced game would have a more complicated story to keep those players interested. Getting games finished on time with a real feeling of satisfaction from the players on the outcome, is a talent the DMs/storytellers must have, and at a convention is important due to schedules of things people want to do.
It doesn't hurt if the game session description includes something about "rules will be stressed", or miniatures rules, or "role play will be stressed over rules". There are different styles of gaming out there. Some people love the detailed rules and math game, some want to just role play.
And anyone interested in gaming really should go check out "DM of the Rings" online--it's hilarious and lays open a lot of gaming quirks that could help improve anyone's campaign, or at least have you laughing because your group has done the same thing.
Lastly, as for game scheduling, make sure you don't set them up during any possible important guest panels.  LOL  LOL  LOL

Just a little update on this what with the newsletter and all.  The gaming side of things I'm in support of, but what I'm also in support of is teaching others about RPing.  At the least, I think that a workshop for beginners would be a good thing, then a session or two.  Then again, we'll see how things are going when we're a lot closer.

I haven't played any tabletop RPGs, so I think it would be a great way to start by playing TMNT ones.
