DC?! You can DEFINITELY pencil me in, that's just down the Metro from me.
Sadly, my beloved Capitals will be on the road, so you won't get a chance to share the excitement.
I can even play tour guide to some extent, if needed.

OK, I've done a little bit of preliminary sniffing around for you folks coming in from out of town. Here's a link to Metro, the District's transit outfit. It's got a map of the rail system, so you can follow along. The Omni is right on the Red Line, at Woodley Park/Zoo/Adams-Morgan. Near Farragut-North is Cafe Asia, which is terrific Asian fusion chow, and one of my favorite haunts. The Hard Rock Cafe is a few blocks away from Metro Center. Good local film joints: for sheer number of screens, Hoffman Center 22 has you covered. It's right off Eisenhower Avenue on the Yellow Line, so it's a bit of a hike from Woodley Park. Near Silver Spring is The Majestic 20 for Hollywood fare, and the AFI Silver for art-house, indie, foreign, and historic films. Katsuconners, if you've got questions about the DC area, ASK ME. I LIVE here, for crying out loud. I'm not about to try to play host to everyone here who comes to the event, but I can't in good conscience let you guys come in here and not know what's good to eat/see/do away from the con. Raka

Hey everyone, I was just about to pre-reg for Katsucon to save that extra $5 for the weekend, and saw that they got a group thing. Do you belong to an Anime Club? Or do you just have a large group of friends who are really into anime, video games or Cosplay? Either way, if you've got a group of at least ten (10) people who are interested in attending Katsucon 13, you can get an additional $5 off the regular pre-registration fee (bringing the cost down to $40 per-person) by pre-registering as a group. All that you need to do is print the Katsucon 13 Group Pre-Registration Form, and follow the directions on the form. Group pre-registration forms must be received by December 30, 2005. If you have any questions regarding group pre-registration, please contact Katsucon Pre-registrationKatsucon Pre-registration. Now my question is, do I pre reg now, and only save $5... or do we have a group of us that is big enough to save $10 for each of us? Right now I see 4 names, is there another 6 members out there or is any member that is already listed bringing friends that would like to be a part of this savings?

An update:
I've changed positions at the hospital, and I'm now working in an office where I may have to work odd hours here and there. This should work out to my benefit: I may be able to pull a few odd hours earlier in the week and thereby free up the entire weekend, but that is a GUESS. I haven't started at my new office--won't until January 2nd--but from the interview, it does sound like they might be a bit flexible in the scheduling.
Bottom line is that I'll be there for all I can, but I MIGHT have to duck out and head to the office if I can't arrange the time away. Don't question-mark me yet, but stay tuned for an update, hopefully sometime next week.
I'm still available for local insights/advance scouting, if any attendees want to ask.
One other quick word of caution on Metro. The subway uses both paper farecards and reloadable plastic cards. There has been talk in the local press that they might make it more expensive to use the paper cards over the plastic ones. That's preliminary, and I don't think they'd be able to implement it by February. (I'll definitely post here if they do.) Bottom line is that those of you who might want to ride on the subway, keep an eye on this thread, and be prepared for some confusion if that system does get implemented.

OK, a bit of detective work needed for this, and apologies for the double post, but: no harm, no foul. Those changes will not go into effect until July at the soonest, and that's assuming they even get approved. So for this February, paper or plastic, it won't matter. Apologies for any angst among the three of you who are actually coming to town for this... Raka

Minus Butch. oh well MistyEliza Doolittle: The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated. ^-^ -= My Fair Lady =- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can't wait till next week. ^-^

Word of caution for those coming up to DC from further south.
Unless the forecast changes, it is going to be FRIGID in DC that weekend. Dress VERY warmly, and be prepared for the possibility of winter weather. Fortunately, the Metro stop near the hotel is underground, so if we need to get away from the hotel for a bit, at least we won't be freezing our shells off waiting for the train. If you're driving into town, be VERY cautious: most Washingtonians don't know how to drive in the winter. Also, parking downtown is generally a nightmare no matter where you go, and traffic patterns are VERY confusing if you're not familiar with the city. I strongly recommend sticking to the Metro if you're going to be staying downtown: parking is scarce and expensive, and it is very easy to get lost. And, honestly, there are some sections of DC that you really do not want to get lost in.

Don't worry about me, Absaraka. I know about cold weather and walkin in it. Last year, Ives and I walked to Tenley Metro Center. Ives knows about the cold. She's further North of me. But I'll definetly bundle up. We'll prolly take the Metro bus to the Tenley Metro Center cause my mom's gonna be in Seattle on through 11th - 16th. Arista won't be able to make to the KatSucon. Her boss won't let her take leave from work. Go fig. At least she tried. Why park when there's the metro bus/sub. We're still going. This winter can't keep this Turtle away from the katsucon. I'm hoping to show off my hand drawn art this year in the artists room. I also have a handpainted picture of ocean splashing up on the rocks with the sun shining. haha oops.. that part should've been in the art topic.

I can't wait to see you again, Critical. I hope I can stay well this year. Dress warm when you come to DC. I'm kinda concerned about this winter weather.
