Upon Ivey's request, and because I'm sure some of you will find it interesting/amsuing...my review of Katsucon 2005, AKA the first time I met Mike Sinterniklaas
I do have to say though, it may not be extremely detailed as you would hope, because well...it was ALMOST 3 years ago (wow, I've known Mike for almost 3 years?! awesome...), and on top of that, I've had MANY seizures since then, and you guys know what that does to my memory. But, I've tried my hardest, and even read over my lj entry from then, and here's my result. I will warn you though, it will be EXTREMELY fan girly. After all, it's the first time I met the guy I adore! lol So here we go....
So actually, the only reason I even went to Katsucon, was because I had been getting really into the Venture Bros fandom, and really bugging my friends with it and everything, and my friend Nicki mentions like, 2 or 3 days before the con, oh the guy that does the voice of that character you really like on that show (which is what she said, but it's Dean from Venture Bros lol) is going to be at this con I'm going to, wanna go? HECK YES! So she managed to convince her friend to let me cram into the car and into the hotel room as well to come along. I ended up being crammed into a car with 5 other people, and in a hotel room with them as well....me plus my friend plus 4 other BOYS I'd never met before. THAT was interesting....and yes, the sex jokes were flying lol.
The first day was actually kinda boring for me...I didn't notice any panels or guests that interested me, so my friend and I just kinda wandered around observing things...where things were, people cosplaying, stuff in the dealer's room, things like that. I did see some people cosplaying Venture characters, and you have no idea how happy that made me! There was a Monarch, Dr. Girlfriend, Dr. Orpheus, Triana, and Hank and Dean! They even had a cardboard HELPeR with them! I had some pics, but I can't seem to find them at the moment. I'll dig them up though, and I'll post them when I find them! That night we went to like, two hentai panels ...one I enjoyed mainly because one of the girls running it gave good writing advice. Like, writing in general, not just about hentai stuff heh. The other was about drawing and really...my friend and I just snickered, were generally immature and made lots of inside jokes for that. Aren't we a bunch of pervs?
The next day...I don't remember much of anything that happened that morning...til I met Mike XD Something was up with the hotel they were having the con in, they were doing some construction or something...so the room Mike's panel was in was in like, a hotel right next door or something. I just remember we had to walk outside to get to the other hotel to get to his room....and that it was FREEZING and windy on top of that! We got to the room kinda early, just as Richard Kim (guy who runs Katsu) was finishing up a panel he was doing, and Mike walked in to get ready for his panel, and Mr. Kim said hi how are you and the like to him, and then told him how much he loved Venture Bros, and asked about what was going to happen with the new season (this was before we were 100% sure there was going to be a new season and didn't know what was going to happen to the boys since they had died). Mike smiled and said weeeeeellll....and said that he wasn't allowed to say anything, but that things were looking good and that actually he was supposed to go to a meeting with some guy to talk about that some time that next week...and reminded us all that "Don't worry, our dad's a super scientist...although not a very good one, but things will be ok." Yes, he said "our dad" lol Then he walked over to his table at the front of the room, and climbed into his chair...sitting on the top part with his feet in the seat lol And like, right away, he noticed me (sitting in the front row, squirming and red from giddy fan girlness) wearing my Venture Bros shirt, smiling at him. He got all happy, pointed me out and said "You get a gold star!" and made me stand up in front of everyone to show them my shirt.
He went on with his panel, telling everyone about different projects he was working on but then usually stopping himself and saying oh sorry I'm not supposed to tell anyone about that yet...it was rather amusing. He was wearing an original nintendo controller belt buckle that kept popping off and he kept complaining that it was cuz he was fat (yeah RIGHT!) or that his pants were gonna fall off...I won't tell you my reaction to that, but my friend sure kept pointing out that he said that to me. I guess she wanted to see how red I could turn heh. I was also amused at how often he kept saying he was such a dork (which is true, but....lol jk). Then he started answering some questions people had, about how he got to be Leonardo and some people asked him Venture questions and stuff like that....and then someone asked him to do "Go Team Venture". He got a real pouty look on his face and kinda squeeked "Aloooone?" and for some reason, I don't know what took over me....I jumped up there and said I'd do it with him. He smiled at me and said "Ok, ready? One, two, three....GO TEAM VENTURE!" I totally did "go team venture" with Mike! And he said it in Dean's voice too!
The questions continued on, and then someone said he kinda looked like Dean a little....which made him pout saying he didn't think he was that much of a dork. I laughed and said it was a good thing, that Dean was cute....and that he should wear a sweater vest. He turned to me and said "But there's pee pee on it!" in Dean's voice. I about died lol. Later a fan asked Mike if he could "hook him up" with the person that does Dr. Girlfriend's voice.....before hand, without even meaning to, I had been making comments here and there helping Mike answer Venture questions...so Mike turned to me and we kinda laughed. I told the guy that I didn't think he wanted to be "hooked up" with Doc Hammer. Mike laughed and agreed, saying Doc was a scrawny two-tone haired guy that smoked alot and liked to paint chicks in bras. The guy got embarassed and said nevermind lol.
Finally Mike had to go, and it was time for Richard Cox's panel. I was going to stay for that too, but I wanted to talk to Mike really quickly as he was about to leave, since I didn't know when I'd see him again. I finally broke through to him as he was waiting for his elevator and handed him my binder (which contained all my Venture fanart) because I wanted him to sign a collage of Dean pics my friend had made for me to be signed by him. It was kinda weird, there were so many people all around him...yet no one was talking to him, he was just kinda standing there, looking out the window, looking bored. So I walked up to him and kinda...poked him and asked him if he'd sign the paper. He told me he was just about to go to a signing...and for some reason I had no clue what he meant, plus I didn't wanna leave my friends behind or miss the Richard Cox panel....so I told him I wouldn't be able to come to it. Which now I feel really stupid and understand why he looked at me kinda confused lol. I showed him the paper and he did his usual OMG THATS AWESOME expression heh. I told him my friend made it for me....and studdered out that I loved him as Dean. He said "I love you too, that's awesome!"
Just as he was about to sign it the vator came and the con staff like, almost literally shoved him into it and wouldn't let anyone else get on with him. He still had my binder. I was studdering but...but....he....reaching for my binder, thinking oh god, he's got all my Venture fan art and oh geez....finally through all the struggle of me trying to reach for my binder and him trying to tell the guys that wait he had my binder he shouted GUYS I HAVE HER BINDER SHE NEEDS TO COME! and they were like fine, just her, no one else! I got to be shoved in an elevator with Mike....SCORE lol
As we got off on the floor he needed to get off on, before he walked off to his autograph session he handed me my pic back, signed now. Then, he asked if he could take a pic of me wearing my Venture shirt, holding up the pic he just signed."You're the biggest Dean fan I've ever seen! Can I take your picture? I've gotta show the guys at the Astro Base this!" Of course, I said of course lol Then he smiles and says goodbye....
As he walked away, I finally looked down to see what he had wrote. It said;
"If it wer not for Triana, I'd make you mine. -Dean V. Mike Sinterniklaas" Yeah, he spelled were wrong lol
Guys, you can call me what you want...freak...obsessed...stalker...whatever. When I first read that, I thought I was gonna cry. Fer real. He ran off to his autographing thing...and I had no clue that it was happening cuz I'm dumb...course it's also the first Katsucon I've ever been to...and I felt I had to get back to Nicki and also to see Richard Cox cuz InuYasha is cool and it was my major fandom before Venture Bros...but..I shoulda followed him -.-; I was waiting there forever for my stupid vator to come so I could go back up and meet Richard Cox...but I was swallowing hard trying not to just cry and I was shaking all over...hard. I felt really bad cuz if I told anyone I'd get made fun of (like I'm sure I will now) but at the same time....IT WAS THE BEST FEELING EVER.
And that, my friends, is the story of my first time meeting Mike Sinterniklaas. I don't really remember much after that unfortunately. I'll post pics later as I find them, but unfortuantely I don't have any pics of me and Mike, or any at all actually....the pics I have of the cosplayers were taken by my friend, and that's all she got...I do have a scanned pic of the first sig I got from Mike....like I said, I'll post them as I find them.
