In this issue the Turtles are getting ready for Christmas with April... though Leo went out on an erran and is taking forever to return.  Leo in the mean time is facing off against the Foot Clan, and is the first to learn of the Shredder's return.  Leo is delievered to his brothers beaten badly, and as the Turtles try to get out of the Second Time around shop they meet Shredder himself!

This is a really good issue, and stands alone nicely.  Check out Mirage's topic on this issue at http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/mirage/volume01/10/10.htm

This issue was split into two for the TMNT 4Kids series, "Shredder Strikes Back Part 1" & "Shredder Strikes Back Part 2"

Please share your thoughts about this issue!

Now, this one....I am so surprised no one even made a comment on this one.  You guys!  This is it!  This was the turning point in the Turtles' lives!!!!  And, I might add, one of the best art periods at Mirage.

Has anyone else even read these darn things?  Where are you?  Crying/Very Sad

This story, for some reason draws me back every time I open up the graphic novel containing it.  I love how there is a bottom panel showing what's going on at April's place.  Mike's cooking dinner, he practically gives you the whole menu.....in fact, this year I am doing an almost exact menu of this Christmas Eve dinner.....sans the Foot, of course.  Wouldn't want that.  LOL

Seeing three of the Turtles at home enjoying the beginning of their second real Christmas, in the bottom panel, and then seeing Leo's situation begin to unfold in the top panels......great piece of work!  This book almost has a tempo to it.  It builds, and the two scenes dovetail....and then the action really picks up!

Yeah, this is one of my all time favorite stories.  And I think it's one that makes a huge impression if you read it.  Especially the colored version of it in the graphic novel.

This issue is of course a very intense issue.
I remember reading it for the first time, just after seeing the first movie. It was the First Graphic novels, the batch of 4 books were loaned to me after we got home from the movie.
Of course, you can imagine my surprise when I got to this issue and: "hey! wasn't it supposed to be Raph getting his butt kicked??"
(I'd already liked Leo best from seeing the movie, and they didn't tell me the way the comics were different!!)
 Razz
I agree this one is among the best Mirage did for layouts and the way the panels worked to tell the story.
And it was this issue that set up my favorite style of "overall look" for them (I know everyone has their fave styles), and a type of story that appealed to me a lot. Even if it was tragic at the end.
