Ok, I had to vent about this... *sigh*

There's this guy I've known, for MANY MANY years... he lived across the street from me most of my childhood here in Ferndale... at the old house.   He was a total nut job, though we always thought he was harmless.  My mom knew him growing up, since she was friends with his sister....

Well here's the story.  The man is Gordon, when he was younger he got his wife in a drug deal, and had three kids with her.  Gordon Jr, Lindsey, and a daughter.  The wife ran away to FL with the daughter, leaving Gordon with his two sons.  Well for Gordon Jr's Birthday one year, the wife came back and kidnapped him from school.  Well Gordon was planning a Birthday party for him and all, even got him a bike.  When he went and learned his son was kidnapped, he came home, went up stairs and took a gun to his mouth, shooting himself in the head... he walks down stairs with blood coming from his eyes, nose, mouth and ears asking his own mother if he was dead yet.

Gordon lived through this, though they could never get the bullet out of his brain.  So he lost the rights of having any kids, which made it so his mother had to take in Lindsey.  Well his mother had to move in across the street from us to take care of her mother.. which brought Lindsey and Gordon to Jewell street.   Gordon was crazy, though he always seemed all talk and no action.  He would threaten Lindsey when he wouldn't behave, though Lindsey would just act up even more for him.  The only ones who could get Lindsey to listen to us, was my mom and I.  They'd call us over if there was problems.  We also helped if their dog got loose or any other problems.  I basically watched Lindsey grow up, and put up with Gordon through out the years that they lived there.  Though when Gordon's mom passed away, he lost his son.  Though Gordon was still living there, and even got a room mate to help pay the bills, till one day the house caught on fire.   It was a kitchen fire, though the city (which most of the workers did not like Gordon at all), kicked him out of the house, saying it was not safe to live in.   Soon enough, Gordon was committed into a a group home type place.

I have not seen Gordon since than... which was back in the late 1990's (hard to believe I haven't seen him in this long of a time).  Though we still would get updates from his family how both him and Lindsey are doing...   Lindsey got into a better life from what I understand, became a good student at school and is happy.   Though I didn't hear or even ask much on how Gordon is doing.

I just found out some news tonight that Gordon, being the stupid jerk that he is... finally took action to all of that bull that use to poor out of his mouth....

He robbed a store, with someone else that lived in the home with him.  In the process of doing so, he stabbed the store owner, an 87 year old man to death.   This news has made me very sick... no I don't know the guy that died... but just knowing that Gordon would KILL an innocent man has upset me so much.   I'm very happy to report that Gordon is in Jail now.  Though I'd really like to put a few slugs to his face for being so stupid!!!

I've never known anyone who has killed someone before... and was hoping I never would.  I don't know what to say...  he should of been being watched better... though Gordon isn't all there in the head he deff KNEW better than what he did!   He deserves what ever the court throws at him!!  And if I ever do see him again, he's going to get a swift kick where it hurts and a slug to the face!

Oww...that sucks.  People can do the dumbest things.  I honestly don't know what to say other than most people suck.

Does Michigan permit capital punishment?

I don't believe so, but I think life in prison is much worse than that (aka the easy way out for them).

I hope this doesn't come out sounding cruel, but it's a shame the bullet didn't kill him when he tried to commit suicide.  I'm sorry, I've no sympathy for losers like him, especially when he later takes a life to rob a store.  Christine was just telling me about that lovely Mark David Chapman.  Twice he almost lost his life and twice he was spared.  Once, he tried to take his own life but someone stopped him from doing it, then at a camp, he was hit by a car but survived the accident.  Makes you wonder how the person who saved his life felt on December 8, 1980.  I don't wish to start any arguments here, but I've always been one for the death penalty.  An eye for an eye.  If you commit a crime and take a life, you don't deserve to live.  Why should our tax dollars keep you alive and ticking when the family of the victim suffers?  26 years later that inhuman Chapman is still alive (and thankfully denied parole again this past October) while John Lennon lies six feet underground.  So you see, I have no sympathy for them.  No sympathy at all.   >Happy/Smile

I guess I disagree with this for the fact that when someone is put to death, they don't have to feel what they did.  Suffer for what they did.   They're just killed and it's over?   Why have the families suffer, and give the one guilty the way out?  Death is a very touchy subject, some believe that people pay for their crimes on the other side, some don't... though there's no proof any way.  And what about the good that person did in their life... if they did a lot of good, and only one crime (no matter how big) does it not get equaled and weighed out?   No one is pure evil or pure good.... so death may be away to save tax dollars, but is it truly away to pay for the crime they committed?

Being force to live in prison could be a lot worse on a person, they live with the memory of what they did... in a cold hard place they don't want to live.  It is a punishment to them... and it's one they feel.  Not one that frees them from feeling the guilt that they did.

I guess I look at things differently, thinking of the families who lost their loved ones while the murderer still lives and breathes on this planet.  They may be in prison for life, but they're not really suffering.  They get three meals a day, work out, get hot showers, have time to themselves or get conjugal visits, and not have a worry in the world for what they've done.  That's why I brought up Chapman and I guess mentioning him is what set me off.  He shot five bullets into Lennon's chest and all he gets is 20 years to life in prison?  If John was my father, I'd be out for blood, out for revenge on his death.   Mad

*puuuuufffff*  I'm fine, I'm cool, I just get upset with discussions like this.

And in some cases, if a killer is brazen enough, knows what platitudes to spout, and has a good enough PR machine, they can end up a celebrity.  Just ask Maureen Faulkner, who has to put up with her husband's murderer writing books and giving commencement addresses from prison.

You know what the good thing is? Lindsey got AWAY and got his own LIFE. Wonder about the mother and the other kids.
Sad thing, a store owner had to die.
Interesting how the article says nothing about Meller's past. How about mentioning that he has a bullet lodged in his head somewhere! It is true, Prison can be worse than death....once he meets...Bubba. heheh...

There are some who should die, in the same way their victims died.
Like Saddam Hussein...I want him castrated, dragged out to the desert in 120 degree temps, hung by his feet by a tree, his body bound so he cannot escape. Watch him dry up like the prick he is...he tortured so many people, he should be tortured as well.
