Hey everyone,

Seeing as how we get fan threads here and there like Fullmetal Alchemist and Venture Brothers, I figured I'd throw up a Naruto fan thread up.  

Do you watch Naruto?
Do you have a favorite episode?
Do you have a favorite character?
Do you hate the line "BELIEVE IT!" as much as a lot of people hate "It's Ninja Time!"?

I know there are some Pokemon fans here and I appologize in advance if this offends anyone but I feel this show is the next Pokemon.

Do you watch Naruto?
I only watched it because my ex-bf made me watch it.  I didn't mind the first 20 episodes (and then a few of the stand alone episodes) and after that, it got REALLY REALLY old.  

Do you have a favorite episode?
Episode 91!  I think that's the episode...it's the stand alone episode where Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura were trying to find out what was under Kakashi's mask and they kept on going through all of this trouble just to see and they kept missing their chance.

Do you have a favorite character?
Kakashi!  How can you not like his "Thousand Years of Pain" move? (I know it's not called that in the show but directly translated, That's exactly what it is.  The Stupid Americans changed it's name.)

Do you hate the line "BELIEVE IT!" as much as a lot of people hate "It's Ninja Time!"?
And yes, I hate it as much as "It's ninja time!"  Come on, they could have come up with something better.

Yes I have watched like all 200+ of the Japanese episodes

Do you have a favorite episode?
I honestly love the entire Ultimate Formation/ Lets save Sasuke in a barrel arch. I also like the end of the Chunnin exam.... heck I like anything but the current nearly two years of fillers I have suffered through.

Do you have a favorite character?
Naruto hands down. He is my second favorite character ever after Leonardo. I also like Rock Lee, Kiba and Gaara.

Nah, I assume dattebayo is just as annoying in Japanese. I actually have a lot of fun randomly yelling "believe it" at people at conventions. It seriously ticks people off which amuses me.

One last thing to add... Sasuke is my LEAST favorite character but his English VA Yuri is one of my favorite VAs..... go figure :p




Also a few more things I had to add.... this show is NOT the next Pokemon its the next Dragonball Z get it right :p Pokemon is about questing and collecting "monsters" hence its like Yu Gi Oh. DBZ os about powering up and fighting.... hence its like Naruto. And 1000 Years of Pain is actually most correctly translated as 1000 Years of Death and the people working on the dub are not stupid. I know a lot of them and they are dedicated nice people. Thank you

You're right to one extent but I don't always hear "OMG!  DBZ IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!"  like I heard about Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.  I've heard this more from Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and now Naruto.  I didn't mean it in terms of collecting every creature/card known to man.  I will admit, it is the next DBZ in terms of the type of fighting anime it is but Naruto doesn't spend 4 episodes on the same move.

It appears you were not heavily into anime when DBZ was popular in the mid/ late 90's???

DBZ was considering the the second coming by most anime fans of the that time era. Go into any anime forum with members that have been into anime sense before the Inu Yasha craze and ask them what was so annoying about DBZ and why so many people dislike it now and what answer will you get.... the annoying fan boys doing just what you proclaim. It has taken DBZ years to start to move its way out of this stigma and a lot of anime fans still hate it not because of the anime but because they still remember DBZ fans getting in there face at some point to proclaim how amazing Goku was.

I personally have never been a huge DBZ fan, I liked DB, frankly the story is so similair to Naruto I feel I can just watch my golden ninja and get mostly the jist of it.

I deff agree that it's more in the direction of DBZ, though I was a past DBZ fan.   Originally I didn't like it, though my dad started to watch DBZ and to be able to have something to talk with my dad about, I watched it with him.  I became a bigger fan of DBZ than him.   Even got Shadow Wolf into it, I collected the toys, dvds, and other things on it.  Vegeta is my favorite character.   Though I'll save my DBZ review for a Dragon Ball fan topic

I'm not as far as the sub fans are into Naruto... I don't watch Subs too much, so I'm sitting back with the Cartoon Network.  So I haven't seen this "Let's see Kakashi's  face" episode, though I would LOVE to!  Can't wait for it to air!!

My turn to answer the questions.

Do you watch Naruto?
I've watched Naruto since it came to the Cartoon Network, I heard a LOT about it before than.  So I was waiting for it to be dubbed for awhile.

Do you have a favorite episode?
I don't have a favorite episode yet that I can think of off the top of my head.  I did enjoy the episode where Naruto had to hold onto a frog through the fulll episode hehe

Do you have a favorite character?
I'm deff a Naruto fan!  Can relate to that boy in so many ways     Second fav would be Rock Lee  both of those characters even hang on a neck thing I wear at conventions.

For me it was more annoying when the show first started.  I wanted to ram my head into a wall a few times over it.  Though now he doesn't say it as much so it doesn't bother me as much.  

I also learned the story behind "Believe it" when I went to Anime North.   Jeff Nimoy, the writer for the English version of Naruto (he also did the voice of Wolfwood in Trigun) was there and "Believe it" was brought up.  He said that Japan wanted a catch phrase for Naruto, so he sent them a list of 50 catch phrases and they sent him back "Believe it" which wasn't even on the list.  

And for those who are not voice chasers who would like to know this.. one of the characters in Naruto is voiced by someone from TMNT History  Akimichi Choji is voiced by our very own Robbie Rist!!

Don't forget too Ivey Shino is voiced by Sam Regal also.

And Iruka-sensei is voiced by Quinton Flynn who is going to be doing Casey Jones voice in the film.

   There are so many Turtles/ Naruto connetions.

Also Kishimoto-senshi the man who creates Naruto stated in an interview in Shonen Jump when the US version first started being released that his two major influences for Naruto are Dragonball Z and Ninja Turtles.

The large Turtle that was the Sensei to Gai and Lee is actually a little visually tribute to the guys.

Cool I knew Sam did something in it, but wasn't sure who he was, and I deff know about Quinton!     Got him to sign my Naruto wall scroll.

That is SO cool to hear that TMNT had a part in the creation of Naruto!!!!     No wonder I enjoy the series so much  And ya know I enjoyed seeing that Turtle when it appeared!

I also read in one of the manga that Harry Potter influenced Kishimoto-senshi while getting his ideas together for Naruto too.  A lot of stuff did, and I found it interesting some of his mentors told him his ideas sounded too much like something else and he should try to make it more original.  


But yeah, I like this one too.  I also agree it's more like DBZ, or a Harry Potter version of ninja school.  Not Pokemon.  Digimon and Transformers Armada was more like Pokemon.  But this anime isn't orginal in concept and design.  It just has that kind of addictive appeal many kids like.

I had a year ago.  Then other things distracted me (like TF fansubs and FMA) and I haven't got back to it.  I stopped around the 120th ep.  I also found that the manga is better than the anme at times, but at others the anime would add new scenes. (note:  these are the fansubs of the japanese series I speak of... haven't seen the US dub of it yet)
My appeal to this show is the ninja action.. and the constant feel good attitude about not giving up when the going gets tough.

The first 25 were really good, but I think it was #17 that got me.  The one where they were fighting the servant of the assasin, and Sakura thought Sasuke was dead.  I decided to blame this on my pregger hormones then, but that scene made me cry!  Seriously, I never had a cartoon make me cry before!     I also liked the way Sasuke and Naruto worked (competed?) with each other to learn how to run up the trees.  I missed that later.

The training and competition trials that followed after for that test were fun to watch too, just to learn about the other kids and their skills.  

Do you have a favorite character?

It was Sasuke       at first, but after they pulled him out of play for so long (not to mention I didn't like how they changed him to be the Prince of Angst)... I grew to like Naruto a little more (until it was nothing but Naruto and Jiraiya).  I also liked Gaara (strange but true) and Shikamaru. And Hinata. Kakashi too, just for his wise but patient mannerism.

Sayuki and Rock Lee annoy me greatly.  :p  *lol*

Er?  I take it this is an english dub thing.  Don't recall it.  What bugged me about the fansubs I d/led was how the theme songs were changed so often.  And how the end of a previous ep would also be in the begginning of the next (so it feels like only 10-12 minutes is actual new stuff)  They also had a lot of "remember back when" recaps. *yawn* *fast forward*  Kind of reminds me of those lengthy transform sequences in the Japanses TF shows...

Do you have a favorite episode? I liked the ep where Naruto and Saske were learning how to run up trees but they kept hurting themselves.

Do you have a favorite character? the sensei who trains Naruto's team. I forget his name though.

Do you hate the line "BELIEVE IT!" as much as a lot of people hate "It's Ninja Time!"? NO! I LOVE IT. It's not the writers faults over here about Believe It. It's the peole in Japan who CREATED Naruto, THEY Chose "Believe It!" for over here anyways.  So I just go about saying it. Besides I get people telling me they want to hear my say it all the time o_O; So I do... *shrugs*
