Lost my job

Mentioned this on Mikey's, but I think I'd better mention it here for those who don't check both boards.

I wasn't fired outright, but I was told not to go back to my old work site.  My contracting office is going to try to get me another position as quickly as possible.  However, they've warned me that one more bad stress reaction in the new position, and I'm going to be officially fired.

This would not have happened if the VA hospital hadn't dragged its collective feet after I walked in there last month.  I left a message with my doc saying I needed an appointment.  No response.  Sent another message yesterday, had 'em mark it Urgent: I'll take any slot at all, just leave me a message with the time.  Message returned, but still no appointment.  This afternoon, after I got let go, I tried calling the clinic: no answer.  Paged my doc: no answer.

I'm going over to the hospital tomorrow and officially complaining about lack of access.  And I've already written my Congressman about this, so maybe some heat from the Hill will help.

But when a service-connected veteran has to ask for Congressional help to get an appointment, it's pretty bad.  The military has an acronym for that: TARFU.  As in, Things Are Really F***ed Up.

I am very sorry for you to hear this. But what did they mean with "one more bad stress reaction"?

I can relate to the whole VA hospital issue - my father is a veteran and has a serious mental illness but for the longest time, they seem to not care about him or his troubles. I understand they have a long list of people to treat but there's no sense in going almost 100 miles to the nearest VA hospital and waiting practically all day, only to get treated like crap. You guys fought for our country, and in my father's case: he was drafted; I wish the government would treat our vets all equal [as they deserve], service and non-service connected.

I'm sorry that you have lost your job, and I really hope you get the treatment that you need so that you can move forward in your life and maintain stability. Please don't hesitate to come here and vent!
