I saw some things on other Turtle forums and it really burns me:
Why can't people appreciate what they have? The Turtles have made an AMAZING comeback from their 1980s/90s incarnations. Folks who wanted it darker got a taste of it with 2k3, but they DON'T understand the corporate politics nowadays. I would LOVE to see more of the darker stories, but I'm happy with what we've got. These fans have to NOT like something in the new film, whether it be the April/Casey design or the "your mom" joke... for goodness sake, ENJOY it while it lasts. The Turtles would've never come back if it wasn't for people like Munroe and others from Mirage, Imagi, etc. They [the fans] complain about every single little thing and why it should be "this way" or "that way" or "I would do it this way.."
Fine, you little animation-major - GO FOR IT! Seriously. Either do something about it or stop complaining about the smallest, silliest little things. If you think you can do better, save up your funds and work hard. Put your money where your mouth is. Be thankful for what you have. For some of those fans, at least it's not Fast Forward. And I NEVER would've thought in a million years that back in 1990, we fans would have a CGI movie in 2007.
I'm sorry but I can't stand people just complaining for the sake of complaining. That's why I LOVE it here on TMNT-L.

When some of those boards formed years ago, I joined a couple of them. And then let my membership lapse, end, fade out. It's because of those fans that are all about negativity and their egos. It just disgusts me. I totally agree with exactly what you said. It's so easy for so many people to take pot shots at others for their works, to tear them down. But why? What is it about their ego that requires them to act like that? Do they really think it makes them look like experts, or talented in others eyes? What is it about our culture that so thrives on this kind of thinking?
I will share this quote, that is in a book my director wanted me to read for supervisor training. A quote I really liked a lot. Crticism has the power to do good when there is something that must be destroyed, dissolved, or reduced, but (it is) only capable of harm when there is something to be built. (Carl Jung)
Here's to our boards!! Where we can discuss things nicely and have differences of opinion but still support each other--and those making it!

Ditto. Yes, FF isn't as good as the past few seasons have been...but it's better than nothing, right? Some folks had it in for FF and/or the new movie right from the start and nothing's going to change their opinions. They're the types that aren't happy unless they can complain about something. It's best to just avoid them and nod politely (as such) when they start ranting.

Yes. I agree. What we have is better than having nothing at all. And I am grateful these guys have been with us for a couple of decades now. Even if they disappeared, at this point, I don't think I could ever forget them. They are literally a part of me in many ways. I didn't see the post, Mindychan, that you were referring to, but people like this are everywhere in our lives. I wonder if they are just, perhaps, so idealistic, that they can't see the good in something when it doesn't meet their expectations. Who knows? Anyway, I for one, though I wish some things were better/different, will take what we have now, over nothing at all.

Im probably guilty of being one of those picky fans, and yeah I am picky.....but I'm damn glad there is new TMNT stuff going around. I've seen too many good things go bad because of sloppiness, I was fearing this with the CGI movie...tmnt3 was horrible(but the story and sets okay) and i was fearing they were going to screw up and make it corny...I've seen the trailer, all that fear's gone now. There are those who tear it apart, they're idiots. So what if there's some funny elements, it's gonna be there..they're kids, they tell jokes, insult each other, act like goons...isnt that was 15 year olds do?? if those fans dont like it, oh freaking well.

I agree too. While I wasn't a big fan of FF in the beginning, it's starting to really grow on me. The stories are getting much better...heck...I don't even mind the theme song anymore! On top of everything...how lucky are we to be getting ANOTHER Ninja Turtle movie!
As for those who don't appreciate the Turtles anymore...just don't pay any attention to them. They're really not worth a second thought.

There's a difference between cutting something apart, especially not having seen it in the entirety before judging it. And expressing concerns in a more diplomatic fashion. And there's a difference once something has been seen, of finding the good in something that may not be completely up to the standards we wanted or hoped for (FF v. earlier seasons), or just continuing to slash and burn everything. I like that the fans on these boards, in general, tend toward finding good in things.
Also, it's Kevin's movie, and the movie of the crew working on it. It's not our movie in terms of it will never be what each of us personally would do in a movie, anymore than everyone writes exactly the same fan fics with the same characters.

Wow, what a topic it seemed to have appeared out of no where and check out all the replies already... I agree with ya Mindy, there are a lot of people out there who look for the bad in things and it's sad really. When I get a fan come and talk to me and just only looking at the negative side and won't hear a thing about the good I usually end up just going quiet. TMNT is a world of entertainment, it's there for everyone though not everyone is going to enjoy every field out there. Once people can come to except that, things go better. It's the negative stuff like this, that made me stick mainly here to TMNT-L. We try to look on the bright side... though that doesn't mean we don't complain cause I believe I've heard everyone at least complain once since meeting people... though it's a place where we're willing to listen to both sides and ride the waves as they come. We don't just complain cause we have nothing better to do, we've been very lucky to not get bashing in this forum. I have to THANK you for handling the post the way you just did Mindy. I love it that you left it very open, not giving us a lead back to where this came from or who it is that did this. It makes this much more of an open topic where people can just talk about how they feel on the topic, without feeling it's aimed at any person out there. Thank you again for how you handled this.

In some forums are even people who insult others because of their opinion..about a character or the turtles generally. I will never understand this. Something like this can make somebody to get dull to post anymore.

I'll admit I haven't been keeping up with Fast Forward (assuming there's a dvd release I'll probably get it and veg out in front of the tv for a couple days) and I don't like it as much as what we had before but c'mon it's better than nothing! Everyone whose basically said people just want something to whine about are right. I'm sure people whined because the first cartoon wasn't enough like the comics, I'm sure people whined about the first movie (can't think of why), the second movie (okay... Vanilla Ice?), and third (Hey, I liked it), people whined about the second cartoon being way different than the first, people... I'm rambling at this point. You get the idea. People don't like change. ZOMG THE NEW MOVIE IS DIFFERENT!!!
Y'know, this is acceptable in the Hitchhiker's Guide fandom because every incarnation of the Guide has been different than the first. TMNT fans need to accept this as well I think.
Yeah this was a fairly useless response but I wanted to toss in a few words anyway.

I think honestly that they should be HAPPY that turtles is given a second chance you know? Some shows that were out years ago, don't come back and if they dont..the fandom doesn't. Turtle has it all! If they don't appreciate the little things then they shouldn't be fans in the first place.

Well, aside from enjoying the complaining, some fans tend to get overly obsessive about the fandom. Not in the sense of buying as much of the merchandise, but in the sense of "I'm a fan, I DESERVE to get exactly what *I* want out of this fandom. They'd be nowhere without ME, so *I* have the right to say what does/doesn't happen." So, naturally, the spoiled fan doesn't always get what they want, then they start to whine that this or that is going to 'suck'...because they didn't get their own way. Oooh, bitter much there, Raph?

It actually shocks me how many times in the comic letter page I have seen people do just this to Laird.... write to him and be like I have been a fan for X amount of years... I don't like what you are doing with Turtles now I think you should change it to any number of suggestions they give. I am just thankful to still have the guys going and at the quality they are at... I simply can't even imagine demanding from the creator like that.

*shrugs* This happens in just about every fandom...the ones who endlessly complain irritate me, too, but the ones who endlessly bash anyone who's not utterly in love with everything in the fandom also get to me...it's why I tend to withdraw from the vast majority of fandoms out there...I have enough to worry about on a day to day basis than to let piddly little online things get to me, y'know?
It's great the turtles are doing so well again, and once they fade out this time (because, let's be realistic here, whether it's through corporate greed, fear, and whatnot, or just the natural way of the media, nothing lasts forever in the public eye), I'm betting they'll still make come backs again and again because they are such a great concept at the root, and have so many dimentions to them.
I personally can't stand Fast Forward, and neither can Brent, but that's ok. We still have the comics, the movies, and the way we like them in our minds' eyes reguardless of what others may say. We're not gonna go about indiscriminantly saying "THIS SUCKS" all over the place just for the sake of irritating others and soothing any misguided need for ego stoking, but we're not going to go around mindlessly agreeing with everything every one else says, either. Hey, there's lots of stuff we can't agree with each other on...goes with being individuals.
Ah well, I guess we all need some gadflies thrown in here and there, s'pose I'll play the role in this thread. ;p
