With a little extra time tonight I have been nosing around the internet looking for any stray bits of information about the upcoming film and what have a found. Absolute rubbish in reguards to peoples opinion on the flim. First in IMDB.com and then on Rottentomatos.com. People are tearing the movie, the characters, EVERYTHING apart. They are mad it is CGI, they are mad they are "remaking" another Turtles film, they are mad its too funny, they are mad its too violent, everyone is just complaining it seems like.

Then what really makes me laugh is the people that are going on like "If you were a REAL fan of the Turtles you would be rallying against this film" I was kinda like 0.o

Some of these people don't even know Turtles was a comic book.

There is also a large group of people that seem to enjoy making themselves feel important by telling others they need to "grow up" because they want to see this film and it appears you can't be an adult and like Turtles or comic books or movies for that matter Razz

None of this is really important... it just annoyed me and I wanted to vent to others who I knew would understand.

See this is the kind of mentality that is ruining our society! People get so narrow-minded and concerned with what they feel is socially acceptable and it ticks me RIGHT OFF!!! Mad Even my own sister has the nerve to pick on me for still liking TMNT.

I personally love when people try to tell me my interests are immature. I always ask them to define what an adult is to me...

They never can.

Truth is people don't like things they don't understand, and I really think a lot of the time people don't like seeing other people happy.

Unfortunately, society as a whole is a very close-minded bunch. It doesn't just stop with your type of interests and hobbies. It's with everything, and them degrading you as the kind of person they think you are when half the time they are people that don't even know you. It's disheartening, really.

What really gets to me about it though is when it gets in the way of a real meaningful relationship with anyone. If you're with someone who can't accept you for being young at heart and they push you away for it, somehow it makes you feel even worse about yourself! Crying/Very Sad

Sheesh. People don't seem to know about the precedence of comics and cartoons in other countries for years, and that plenty of adults there enjoy them without being accused of arrested development.  Rolling Eyes

So to be an adult would beee... lesse... drinking booze and watching porn?? o_O;

Oh ho ho, don't get me started on those posters at the IMDB message boards. Not going there! LOL

Don't worry about what others think, Mibu. Turtles are what make you and a lot of us happy. It doesn't hurt us physically, emotionally, or mentally and certainly doesn't hurt others... unlike some people's "interests" as adults.

Hey there's nothing wrong with sex and drinking as long as you take those activities responsibly. If anything it doesn't matter what your hobbies are; you always have to take responsibility for how you act in any environment!

*applause*

Exactly. So long as what you're doing isn't hurting others, I say, go for it. Which is why I just don't understand it when people get bent out of shape because you're watching cartoons. How are cartoons any worse than reality tv or any prime time tv show?

Generally speaking, people watch tv, go to the movies or read novels/comics to be entertained. Everyone is different and gets entertained by different things. The people who can't accept that we all have different tastes are the ones that have the problem.

And some people will complain just for the sake of complaining. I've known people like that - they don't seem to be happy unless they're being miserable.

To those people who say that one is not a REAL fan of the Turtles if they don't rally against the film, I'd like to ask...what constitutes a REAL TMNT fan? From the sounds of the way these ones are talking, a REAL fan is one who doesn't want to give something a chance before they condemn it...one who thinks that theirs is the only opinion that matters...one who will never be satisfied, no matter what...one who has such a low opinion of themselves that they have to put others down to make themselves feel better.

And, frankly, if that's a REAL fan? I'd rather not be one, thank you very much...

They sound like the type of fans certain singers or music groups have, the ones who, once the person or group in question catches fire, they yell things like "sell-outs" and "we're the true fans" and "I was listening to them before they were famous"-- you know, that kind of crap.

Ah well, like others have said, there's gonna be those kind of posters.  They'll prolly go see the film several times just so they can trash it later.

And you're absolutely right and thanks for saying what I FORGOT to say, lol! I meant that most people think you're "adult" when you do more "adult" things, like (to them): sex, booze, and porn (the more popular interests as adults although..  it's not just adults  Confused ).

These people are also in the mindset that cartoons are a thing of your childhood and should be left behind because you will be "immature". What dictionary are they reading from?  Embarassed

This also reminds me of a certain brand of anime fan... they download fansubs of shows and like to think they are very important because they watch this fantasic new show no one has heard of... Yet as soon as the show becomes popular they start to tear it apart. Just because they need to feel important by knowing about something no one else does and by being able to hold that over there heads *eyeroll*

As for "adult interests" I honestly could care less what people are interested in. As long as it has been stated here it doesn't hurt anyone. I just don't understand why so many people seem to take it upon themselves to need to make fun of other peoples interests. I often have people ask me why I spend so much money on anime and cosplaying- and these are the same people that go out 4-5 times and week and easily drop $100 a night drinking. I have also been heckled at conventions while in costumes by people traveling from near by sporting events (it seems like a lot of cons are held near baseball stadiums) how a man that will spend hundreds of dollars to watch a team play for a few hours and is usually painted in the colors of said team can turn around and mock my friends and I because we are dressed up as Samurai is beyond me.

Its just some things are considered normal and popular which is rubbish. For some reason it seems completely normal for someone to go out and get so drunk they can't recall who there are or where they live, or who they are waking up next to, yet because I watch four mutated Turtles on a regular basis I am weird.

Overall I just feel people need to learn to be more open minded.  Razz

Agreed!
I think it's something about attempting to boost their own pathetic ego at the expense of another by demonstrating "superiority" or "being better". Hence the mocking.

People fear what they don't understand in many cases.

There's a difference of respect when someone says they personally don't care for something, but then don't cut others down for liking it.

Well, speaking as both a TMNT fan and a rabid sports fan--you should see me in my full Capitals costume--I can honestly say that there's actually a certain amount of RPing when you get totally into a sports team.  I don't normally walk around with a painted face, flags, and a puppet, but I do on Capitals home game nights--and I usually get grins from most people when I make Wristshot wave at the kids.  Cool  Sports fans are generally permitted a certain amount of sartorial overkill on game nights.

My theory, FWIW, is that most people can get their minds around the concept of "rabid sports fan."  It's just that those who've forgotten how to be young have a problem with what they see as activities which they've outgrown.  I submit that they're jealous:  they know they can't go back there themselves, and they resent those who can.

Of course, I'm not the shrink around here...paging GW...
