Can't believe I'm actually posting a flame, but, I'm about to bring out the industrial-strength, military-grade flamethrower for this.

Pretty much, I'm getting married in 5 months. I've had everything booked for a year, been AWOL from lists and the internet because I'm up to my ears in planning(in fact, I need to call the minister this afternoon) and am otherwise swamped.

One of the vendors I've had yet to talk to is the cake baker. I've talked to everyone else(even my DJ, and I was playing phone tag with him AND the photographer for a week) at least once. Some multiple times, others once or twice and don't need me until May, because all that's left is guest counts. Seeing as how I don't send out invites until next month, yeah, kinda stuck.

But the cake, I do need to be doing that. I know sort of what I want, but, I'm no baker. An elaborate cake for me involves frosting and writing more than "Happy Birthday" on it. Or trying to do an angel food from scratch, which, well trust me, it sucks. Razz

Naturally, I need to talk to someone in the biz. Had to do the same for catering(as much as I wanted to do the feast myself with my love of cooking, as busy as I'll be, can't do it Razz). I wanted lasagne originally. Didn't think of how hard the noodles'd get or how funky the cheese'd be sitting out all night during the course of a catered meal. Took the caterer telling me that to think; "Oh yeah...you're right. Oops." and figure something else out.

I want a chocolate cake, white frosting, three tiers, minimal decorations. That's the bare basics. Look in a cake baking book sometime, see all the white, three tiered cakes there are out there. Decisions, decisions. Bakers need to know where to go, when to go, what sort of frosting, your colors, fresh flowers, toppers, it goes on. I obviously do need to talk to this woman between now and then.

After today, she's lost my business. Talked to me briefly on the first of the year(when I was TIRED, yeah, good idea there), told me to make another appointment. I last spoke to her on the 22nd of January before today. Been trying for a MONTH to let her get over a family emergency and to get ahold of her. Every single time I call this woman, she's either not in or it's "not a good time".

There's a list of other crud that's happened and the words I have for her could make a trucker, sailor, and rapper blush all at once that I obviously can't repeat on here. So if you want to read the whole fiasco that sounds more like a bloody soap opera than a business deal(did I mention it takes a minute to speak to my other vendors, work out what day is open for them and me to make a face-to-face visit, and this woman wouldn't give me even 20 minutes this week or next in a FIVE MINUTE conversation? yeah...), here you go...

Gotta warn you, it's a small novella, the stuff that's gone on since January 1st. And if you don't like cussing and f-bombs, I wouldn't read it. I'm not joking when I said I'm so ticked off at this woman that I cursed enough to make a rapper blush. Just unbelieveable, this woman, the way she's treated me over nothing more than getting a half hour in a day(any day, pick one!) to sit down and discuss the cake she's gonna make for me so she can do it right. Five months to the wedding, I don't have time for this. I'm totally done with her.

Order's cancelled, complaint's gonna be logged with her manager, and I'm turning to my aunt to do the cake. *sigh*

Sorry to get long winded, just unbelievably frustrated, so much so, I actually have a very bad stomachache from it, so, shutting up now and going to slink off and eat chicken soup and ginger ale before my gut twists into a permanent pretzel.

Dude, that cake woman has to seriously get her act together if she wants to keep her job.

I wish you lots of luck on your wedding girl and hope that it all comes out the way you want. Wish i had the time to have to have planned my wedding. (i did mine in six weeks *faint*). But for the time i think mine came out well.

Love to see pics of the wedding!

Thx! So far, everything's going quite well. This cake thing was the first and so far only snag I've had so far with the wedding planning. I cancelled my order and managed to get time in on Wednesday(this all happened on Monday and Tuesday was my aunt's 101st birthday...and sadly, she passed away last night at around 1:30 am. Sad/Down) to file a complaint to the store manager. Good news was, I was able to get my $50 deposit back on account of this woman's behavior.

And you're right, Fae. She really has to do an attitude adjustment if she wants to keep her job. I told the manager that I wasn't seeking to get her fired(an apology and my deposit back was enough to settle the matter) and that was his business what they wanted to do for discipline. I wasn't going to ask for a firing and didn't. But I wouldn't be surprised to find out if she was.

My aunt(who's been in food biz as everything from a waitress to restaurant owner to baker to deli worker for 30-40 years) knows this woman, as does my uncle. From what my aunt's told me, this lady once worked for two other bakeries before the grocery store she was working where I was trying to order my cake, and she apparently got fired, so apparently she hasn't learned.

Hopefully this'll be the only snag. So far, it's all been going well. Everything's going smoothly, vendors and other people I've needed to work with for this and that have all been nice and patient. She's the only one who packed a nasty attitude with me for doing little more than wanting to meet with her to discuss what she was going to do about my cake.

I'll try to post pictures that I need to scan, among other things, as soon as Earl's computer quits acting up. Turns out that the problem we had in January wasn't Norton(although Norton probably wasn't helping any). He looked up the error number and it's apparently a faulty copy of Win 98. We're waiting until bills and such are paid this month to get XP or some other better version. Once that's fixed, I'll be able to scan. Until then, I don't dare because my luck'd be bad enough that the comp would freeze if we tried. Or lose the files. Finding out the hard way that his current system isn't liking an eBook I bought and downloaded to his computer. Darn thing keeps disappearing on us or refusing to open. O_O

I'll make a post in my DJ or somewhere when I get it all scanned and uploaded.

Geeze, five months to go now. Everything's needing to get put into place now. Fae, I dunno how you could do it in six weeks. I'd go crazy. I've been at this for over a year and I know it's gonna get worse the closer it gets. Already up to my ears in appointments with everyone from the minister to the florist to the travel agent. @_@

But then again, lol, from what I understand, Minnesota(and possibly Midwest) weddings in general are different from weddings elsewhere. Everyone else I talk to, it's a smaller sort of deal, a ceremony, a lunch(cake and punch, maybe sandwiches). Everyone I know around where I live, it's bigger and a lot more planning, a ceremony, sit down meal sort of reception(usually chicken or buffet style, but still more or less a sit down sort of thing), happy/social hour, and then a dance that goes roughly until midnight.

No wonder some of my friends(lol, and you know who you are... Razz) have been teasing me about getting my invitations six months before I needed them and doing other things up to a year in advance. Cultural thing, it seems, but I don't mind.

So anyhow...yeah...thanks for the well wishes. Planning's going well save for this cake woman, and she's out of the picture, I got my money back, so everything's back to normal. Or as normal as it gets for me these days. I've actually got time to hop on for a few minutes today because of this huge storm blowing through. I don't know how much snow we've picked up since Saturday early morning(was rain/sleeting/ice around 3 am that morning), but judging from how deep it is where the maintenance guys cleared the sidewalks, it's definitely a foot at least.

Not going anywhere or doing anything until it's over. *shivers and curls up with some hot cocoa* Mm...marshmallows. Happy/Smile
