Hey everyone

Figured movie one has had it's DVD topic for a little bit, so it's time to toss in another movie.  So here's our topic for TMNT 2.  Which I'd have to say I was a bit disappointed with... they took the TMNT's weapons away and put the evil Ice in.  Heh of course I know some others feel differently about this, so this is the area for us to express what we think of TMNT 2 the Sercet of the Ooze.

For those who have not see this movie....

TMNT 2 picks up after TMNT 1, the Turtles are living in an apartment with April O'Neil.  They make a new friend named Keno, and learn that the Foot is still around while they're searching up the information on a company known as TGRI which is the letter on the canister that held the ooze that mutated them.   The Shredder returns, and the Turtles must face off against Shredder and his new mutants.

You know, it's funny. When I watched this in theatres as a kid, we all *really* enjoyed it and were like enthralled by every scene. We liked it much, much better than the first movie. We were so psyched after watching this we started digging something like 10 feet deep holes in our backyards until our parents made us stop (we were looking for ooze!).

But now, watching it again... the obvious caving in by producers to the outcries of "The Turtles are too violent! wahhh!" and ensuing lack of the Turtles using their real weapons, maybe a little bit too much slapstick humor, and Vanilla Ice really dating the movie... definitely gets pushed to a distant 2nd behind the first movie which was an excellent adaption of #1 and a bit of "Return to New York."

I think how TMNT II rates by you really depends on your age and perspective... at the time it was God's gift to my friends and I when we were like 10... to a jaded 20-something, it's probably going to be crap.

Still enjoyable, though, by all means.

Yeah, it's still a great movie despite some of the bland acting and outdated-ness.

Hey now... I DO enjoy "Ninja Rap" still. *dances*!

I ALSO still love the Ninja Rap, it's on my computer and I still listen to it from time to time, I think I really liked the second movie because of that but I still need to re-watch them all so yeah...

Lurking/Hiding  Hiding from the Ninja rap... gotta say I was not a fan of Ice before or after TMNT 2, and felt like they should of used Ya Kid K like originally planned.   So I'll remain back here for a bit  Lurking/Hiding   (Heh Must not hate it too bad if I can sing along and do the dance moves... just not a big fan of it *G*)

Or genuine rap stars of the era. Bobby Brown or Run DMC would have been great to see on the stage, and I doubt 15 years later today we'd be complaining about them like we do about Ice.

Hell, even if they'd just MADE UP a rap (just put some actor on stage that can dance and have them do a scripted rap song) it would have hurt the film less than Vanilla Ice.

Hey it could've been even worse! I bet they considered Kriss Kross to do that scene if they hadn't been able to hire Vanilla.

Nothing wrong with Kriss Kross, and at least they wouldn't be pretending to be black.

That song is immortal.

I watched this movie about a year ago after not seeing it for a long, long time..and it didn't hold up very well. It seems like the Turtles have changed alot in the day it's been since Shredder died.  Back when I watched this for the first time, I loved it too.  But watching it recently it just wasn't something I care to watch again for a long time.  I think this April is far worse than the one in the first movie. Paige doesn't seem like April at all and alot of her lines are cringe worthy, something that didn't happen with the other April. However, this movie wasn't as bad as say "Play it to the Bone" or "Monster In Law". Ugh.

Yeah... I guess in summation, it was the right movie at the right time for the right audience... but hasn't aged really well. One thing, though, the TMNT costumes were at their absolute finest (in my opinion) here in TMNT II. They're basically improved versions of the costumes from TMNT I, while TMNT III went a frog-like route.

Different places has to do different versions of the Turtles.  I'll always believe that if there was real TMNT they'd look like the ones in TMNT 1.  Though others feel differently, just like we except different people's versions of art for the Turtles, that's what TMNT 3 was... someone else's idea of what they could look like.   Though this topic should be for a TMNT 3 topic, not TMNT 2.  Hehehe

It just boggles my mind, though, how when TMNT I and II, being literally the top grossing movies at the box office for 1990 and 1991 respectively, were being given another sequel -- TMNT III -- the budget and production values were so appallingly small?

Seeing that they were made by Jim Henson's Creature Shop while Henson was still alive and well, I'll go with that. Nobody can top their costume making skills, except WETA workshop. AFAIK.

The only difference would be if the TMNT were living, breathing creatures, they'd have nostrils.  Angel

Don was cute in TMNT II. The part where Mikey was trying to use his bandana tail for a napkin was funny. I have all 3 of their movies on dvd.

I don't really remember Mike using his bandana tail for a napkin, but I always loved it when April offered him and Raphael that whole stack of napkins and they said "What for?"

It wasn't really a mistake but it was a joke.  When April offers the napkins, Mike and Don both reply "What For" than in the back ground when they swing around the table you see Mike use his bandana for a napkin and Raphael wipe his mouth with his arm.  So both needed one, but they didn't aknowlege it.     This was one of my mom's favorite jokes in the movie when I was younger, I remember her pointing it out to me.

I still love this movie.  I didn't see it for years though.  It took me a good number of years before I finally did watch it.  Why?  Well mainly it was because Vanilla Ice scared me away, lol!  Unfortunately that did sorta age the movie too.  But I finally broke down and saw it oneday and went like, "Well this is pretty cool!"  It's definately more campy than the first movie and more cartoon-like, which I believe is the partly the audience they were trying to focus on.  Although, in the first film they did adapt a little to the cartoon by giving the guys the colored bandanas and continuing to have April be a reporter.  But TMNT 2 was just so zany at times.  However it also had good emotional aspects, esp. with Don questioning their true origin and their purpose in life.  He had the most emtional face.  I felt the costumes were fantastic in this movie, wayyyyyy better than TMNT 3!

What I didn't like however was that they had to tone down so much because of all the angry parents from the first film who complained.  My opinion on the matter is that in the first film it was toned down enough as it was.  It's not like you saw blood or body parts being hacked off with swords or anything.  It just gets on my nerves how all these parents think that TMNT is just designed for kids.  So TMNT 2 was 'kidified' even more.  It's still an enjoyable film however, but it wasn't as serious obviously.

I liked this movie.  Gotta love the wonderful "Prefight donut" line.  I will say that Vanilla Ice dates the movie and I will admit that they could have spent a little more time on that dance routine before filming since one of them was off and I mean REALLY REALLY off.  I will say, this was an enjoyable movie although there were it's moments.  This one seemed to fit the best with what happened right after the first movie (I didn't like the third movie all that much plus, that one was REALLY watered down).  Again, good movie but not as good as the first.
