Hey everyone,
This is an idea to help throw our own way of saying "Happy Birthday" to the TMNT. The original comic came out on May 5th, 1984 and every year since I became a fan I've seen this date as one of the two Birthdays for the TMNT (the other being November 19th, 1983 which is when Eastman and Laird did the first drawings of the Turtles).
I always try to do something, be it just go out for ice cream or watch the TMNT movie or read a TMNT graphic novel on that day, just as my way of saying Happy Birthday, but this year I'd like to see if we as the fans could do something. This would take every fan we know, be it here on TMNT-L or any other forum out there. This goal is BIG, in fact it's huge and would be a first time in history (I think) to ever happen.
We all know the movie came out on March 23rd, and most of us have seen the movie at least once if not more. So this is no big news anymore, the Turtles have fastly gone from #1 in box offices to #9. Sad isn't it? Would of like to have seen them up near the top a little longer, but we did the best we could and are proud to say thanks to the fans the Turtles were #1 their opening weekend. This is a goal I don't think we'll see again with this movie, though hopefully the DVD sales will be through the roof.
Now onto my plan for the TMNT birthday. The weekend that May 5th lands, is ALSO the weekend that "Spiderman 3" hits the theaters. So a lot of comic book fans will be heading to the theaters any how. We all know that "Spiderman 3" will take first place in the box offices hands down, though what would be #2? I don't know about you guys, but I think it'd be sweet to see TWO COMIC BOOK MOVIES in the top two spots at the box office.
So the goal is to get AS MANY people we can to see the movie that weekend. Sure a lot of which will go to Spiderman, but it'd rock if they take that time at the theater to see TMNT be it their first or second time! This could really get the press talking, if a movie over a month old could some how shoot all the way back up to #2 on the list! What are the chances?
Slim to none right......
Well the fans can do anything, the fans control what happens by buying the products, going to the movies, eating the food and watching the TV. The fans are what makes any movie, show or comic what they are. And I believe the fans have the power to show the media that we're more than just one or two little people out here.
If you like this idea, pass the word along to other message boards, forums, Live Journal, Dead Journal.... or anywhere else YOU can think of!
"Help in the goal to give the TMNT a GREAT Birthday weekend! On the weekend of May 4th, 5th, and 6th please try to see the movie at least once. Bring friends, family or anyone else you can think of and make this a weekend to remember! This weekend is the same weekend that Spiderman comes out, so if the goal does work out, two Comic book movies could take top billing!
Help spread the word and make history in box offices!"

That would be really cool to have the all the Turtles fans that came out for "TMNT" opening weekend to come out again that weekend while they catch "Spider-Man 3." I'll take my friends back into the theater to watch Turtles again after we watch Spidey. No matter what the box office numbers are, it's a nice way to acknowledge the Turtles and show support for the franchise.

I'd gladly do something if I had the time. I'm graduating and that's right in the middle of exams...*groans* If I can, I'll do something but I don't think that's possible.

Don't worry about that, or be sadden. The goal of this is to have fun and see if it works. If it doesn't than no harm done, though if it does it could make history. The idea of this is something the fans could enjoy and the movie is better the second time around than the first, so it'll be a chance for those who only saw it once to take another look at it. Who knows, this is one of those movies you may see something that you didn't see before

Ivey,
Not to undermine your idea, but I think there might be another way to celebrate the birthday. I don't know if it's been done before, but you could arrange a live TMNT chat where fans of all types can pop in all day and say "Happy Birthday".
I guess, when celebrating something special, it's good to know other people are in it with you.

That kind of thing is done all the time, chats are all over the place. This thing right here is away that the fans can show the studio and the big shots in the suites that they care. Saying it on the internet is one thing, but showing up and doing something about it at the theaters and such is another.
And really I'm having good reactions to this idea in other places. If the word is spread right, the fans can do a lot. And what is this $5 to $8 for a movie ticket? It's not like we're asking for one person to go in and spend $100 in the theaters. This could be fun and if the word gets out, it'll be nice to see just how much of an effect the internet makes.

I'll see what I can do about this cuz I'd really like to help TMNT get up in the rankings again. I believe the Saturday Spidey 3 comes is also Free Comic Book Day, so that might keep from seeing either movie, but I could see TMNT again before or after Free Comic Book Day. If I do this, I'm probably gonna wait awhile to see Spider-Man 3 because I'm a bigger Turtle fan than I am a Spidey fan.

(gives Mikey a high "three") Way to go, Mikey! I think this idea ROCKS! I definitely wouldn't mind seeing that flick again! Wouldn't it be cool to see the reviews after that weekend that TMNT makes a landslide comeback in theaters(after Spiderman 3, of course! I am a big Spidey fan; I'm a 60's product, after all!). I plan to make that day "Movie Day", and I'll see TMNT for a preshow attraction, and make Spidey 3 the main attraction for the evening. WOW! That's gonna be a fun day! I haven't done movie hopping like that since the original Star Wars years! C'mon, TMNT fans! Let's make that box office explode!

You're assuming it'll still be in theaters on May 5th. Not a safe assumption, going by the local listings here in DC.
TMNT is matinee only at almost every theater in town, and that usually is a sign that theaters are getting ready to pull it. Even the 20-screen megaplex just up the way in Silver Spring has TMNT as matinee-only this week.
I hope TMNT is around on the big screen for that weekend, and if it's still out, I'll see it.
But please, Mikey, do yourself a favor here: have a Plan B. Not that you want to use it, of course, but just in case.

Hehehe Who says that's all I have planned for that weekend, tis be my Bday weekend too. I'm going to a few different events and stuff. This is just something that the fans could do as a whole. And I realize that the movie could be out of theaters by than (I'm sure our dollar theater will still have it at least). Though this is just in case those rear theaters still have it.

Yeah, good points on both sides here. My plan A will be to hit the dollar theater. Then plan B will be to grab some action figures to boost their sales. Whatever it takes to get the green guys on the map. I want to make sure I get at least a bit part in the sequel(IT CAN HAPPEN!!).
