Anybody notice the movies always seem to center around Raph somehow?  Very Happy/Big Grin

TMNT 1 - It shows him taking off & finding april, & his temper & how he freaks when they find Splinter gone & then Raph gets hurt, & the Raph/Leo tub moment, & all that.

TMNT 2 - Raph & Keno go off in search of The Foot against orders - they're both similar in some ways. Impulsive & all.

TMNT 3 - Raph with his temper & him telling Yoshi to watch his temper & realize he sounds like Leo.

TMNT 4 - Raph/Leo centric. Their huge falling out, & then the great rescue.

I hope you're not suggesting there is a problem with that. Wink

I guess the writers are just trying to show you that the whole "Good ones end in "O"" bit is false...

I agree that the movies are often Raph-centric.
*thinks Raph has been paying off the script writers*
I'm sure we could come up with a number of stories for a movie where Raph gets put to the back so Don and Mike in particular get more quality time.

thats cos he's the most troubled, the most conflicted...he's easy to write a story around. And it's neat to watch him learn from his mistakes and grow.

edit: lol replied again to this...added more comment too...

Nope, not saying it's bad - I love it! Lol.

I was just simply observing, 'cause I've been falling asleep to TMNT 1 playing on my DVD player - lol.

And yeah, Raph does seem to be the easiest to write about. He's got all that passion & anger mixed inside him - & he's such a lovable turtle!

I reckon the hood ones end in "O" that was funny when Mikey said that.

I don't really care about whether they center Raph or not, as long as Mikey is in it and does something to help it makes me all good.

I think the reason Raph shows up onscreen so much is that he's just so much fun for the writers.  He can say and do a lot of things that other characters couldn't.  Seriously, could you imagine Donatello saying, "You want a butt-kickin', little fella?"  Or Mikey saying, "Crime didn't take a holiday.  You did"?  Or Leo saying, "I'm done takin' orders"?

As a writer, Raphael gives you so much freedom as a character because you can make him do almost anything and still be in character.  Try taking Nightwatcher and making him any of the other TMNT.  Can't be done: Mikey doesn't have the save-the-world attitude, Don is too passive, and you can't easily write Leo as a vigilante.  Raphael has a hard-as-nails exterior, but dig a little deeper and you find he's got a very big heart.  He wants to save the world by fair means or foul, which is a paradoxical attitude that's so much fun to explore.

I'd better shut up before I do a dissertation...

The third movie was more centered around Michaelangelo, really. He was the one who got separated from the group when they first got to Feudal Japan and later he wanted to stay because he liked Mitsu. The whole Raph/Yoshi thing was just for family values.

As for Raphael in general I gotta agree with what people have said. He's a fun character for people to write, and even in the original cartoon he was given a lot of angst... though he just showed it in a different way.

If you think back to the first turtle movie splinter said something to Ralp that exemplifies his character. It's something along the lines of, " You are unique among your brother because you choose to face your troubles alone". Not exactly the line but you get what I'm saying. I've been a Ralp fan sine day 1 because he seems to be more like the everyday person. He doesn't handle his issues with asking for help all the time. He also never likes to take orders especially from Leo. He also has the NY attitude that other turtles lack. He just hit more close to home then any of the other characters. IMO Don and Mike are pretty mush the comic relief and stress relievers while Leo will alway be the opposite of Ralp and come into constant conflict with him.

Go Ralp!!!!

That's what make them click as a team, diverse personalities. in spite of that their team is fo forminable even Shredder gets a hard time putting them down. And Splinter is always there to help them.

Mikey.....there needs to be a movie focused on him >>  I just think there is so much potential there.  But I guess Raphael is deep and brooding enough that having him be the fore runner of the plot is just easier to do.

EDIT:  Sometimes I like to pretend the 3rd movie didn't exsist.  But in all fairness I need to watch it again. It was Mikey centric?  The only thing i remember is that he was captured.  And he had like....10 mins of romance with some girl.

Yes there was a good chunk of Mike in that movie, esp at the end where he stood up and say he's not going back.  Putting his foot down, it showed some character growth.  It wasn't just the normal goof off Mike that everyone makes him out to be.  I do enjoy how they handled him in that movie.

Yeah, that was good. I watched some of TMNT 3 a couple weeks ago, & the week before that TMNT 2 with my Dad. He pointed out, that for ninjas, they don't know how to be very stealthy - haha. But it was still fun to watch. Good old Mikey! They made Mikey seem more serious, & Leo more - childish....like, playful & stuff.

thats cos raph's the hottest Razz

just kiddin'

it's easy to write a story around Raph cos he's got so much going on all the time.
I wouldnt mind seeing a story written around mikey or don, but they don't do much...don sits around and blows up his lab, and mikey goofs off- they need to break the molds and write something around them....or maybe a don/raph storyline...that would be nice.

I watched TMNT 3 again. Mikey's romance with Mitzu was totally one sided.  She had the hots for Kenshin

I think something Michelangelo/Raphael centric could be possible if the next movie had kind of a "King of Newyork" storyline.  After the Shredder dies all the gangs start trying to claim his territory.  The Foot Clan led by Karai against Hun and the Purple Dragons who abandoned the Foot for their own interests after the Shredder died.  The turtles get caught in between Karai's determination for revenge and honor and Hun's rampage to take over New York.

I think the character Angel would play a nice role in this.

The only bad thing about Raphael getting so much attention in the movies (other than overshadowing the other great characters) is that he's beginning to remind me of Wolverine in the fact that he's a token 'favorite'. People suddenly like him because he's "so cool."

Of course, we're going to get those who associate Raph with nothing but anger and brooding, just like Mike is 'never serious,' Don is 'roll over and take it' passive, and Leo is perfect. It just seems more prominent with Raph's character, and I have to wonder if it can be at all attributed to his semi-spotlight in the movies.
