Never pay full price for a late pizza

Hiya all and welcome to the adventures of Motor City Comic Con... a convention of wonder.. as in, wondering why they still call it a comic con when it's become a full scale pop culture convention.

The convention weekend started with the idea of 'finding' the new convention center.  They moved from the Novi Expo Center to the "Rock Financial Showplace".   Of course my mom has her own name for Rock Financial... they're our Over Lords.   As in we have three morages through the company... they own us.  We got there an hour early, and parked right outside the main enterance... which was GREAT!   Than we went and bought our tickets... now it use to be once you got there you got into the long line and waited till they opened to be able to buy your tickets, but with the new set up the line is inside and you can buy your ticket before getting in line.    Which was really cool.   My mom and I bought got the two day pass which was only $20 (it's a small con in the fall).   Than got into the line for the people who just bought their tickets today.

A friend of ours was a Volunteer for the convention, his name is Tom.  Tom was put on watching the line job, and stood not too far from us so we got to pick on him.  Though someone saw we bought the two day pass and told us we have to move to the advance tickets line, which totally rocked since that line got in a half hour early.  Yeah!!!!  Wink  Once we got into that line it wasn't too long before we were let in.   I walked STRAIGHT back to the back wall where Rob Paulsen was... it was such an honor to meet him.  The worse thing was it was $20 an autograph!!!!!!   Eep!  I didn't even have $20 on me!

Oh that's right there's a section of my tail of sadness I haven't got to tell ya all yet.   I waited all day Friday for my Worker Comp check to show up so I'd have money for this weekend... it was a no show!   It finally came in the mail Saturday but I was at the convention and would not have been able to get it in the bank in time.  Anyhow... back to the story....

I was disappointed because I didn't have $20, for I already paid for my ticket in and parking.   Though I gave Rob an autograph of Mitch (since he was Raphael in the Next Mutation) and the other voice actor near him... yelled and autograph for an autograph so he signed the picture I had made up for him to sign.

I talked with Rob for a little bit, than got to talk with Grey Delisle who got to tell me how she's doing extra voices on the new TMNT movie!!!!   So her and I kicked off, though I didn't realize all the other voices she was yet.  She had no pictures of her characters or anything next to her, and I really haven't got the chance to look up VAs who are not TMNT VAs.  So I really had no clue who she was at that time.   After talking to her I took off and found Mark Bode.  Who wasn't too far from them.  Talking with Mark I had him do an autograph for me as well of something I printed up for him to autograph.

This picture was taken when Mark was giving me my Tattoo back in November 2002.  So Mark had fun adding words and such to the Autograph.    LOL

* I have to go out for a bit, though I'm posting it to save it... and will post a second post later *

Awesome autographs! I love the pic you put together for Rob, it came out very, very nicely. What was his reaction to seeing the picture. The whole thing on having to pay for autographs though really sucks. Personally i don't think it's cool to charge for something like that but that's just my personal opinion.

Mark Bode sounds so cool! I'd prolly actually get a tattoo if it was done and designed by him! Wish i could have gone but distance and money wasn't agreeing with me on that *Sighs*

Hey everyone, going to try and pick up on this.

After I talked with Mark for a little bit, I went down to the Art-Toons booth.  They had a cell I wanted!  Eep, more money I didn't have to buy for things.  So I put a little down on it, for them to hold the cell.   It had a part of the Turtle Blimp in it and three Turtles.  After talking with them, my mom found a table in the food court and I took off walking around a bit more when I found the T-Shirt booth... I was relieved to see they didn't have any new ones for me to drool over.   Makes it easier for me to say "I can't right now."  Than I went down the artist alley area and saw that Dave Akins is back.  He worked on a childrens TMNT book recently "Four's a Crowd" so I stopped to talk with him, only to learn that the company is no longer going to make TMNT books because they were not selling good enough, though there is a hard cover collectors book he was selling for $10 each.  I told him I'll try and get money to buy a book.

I had a little bit of money that my mom and I added together to get another autograph from Rob.  So I went back to Rob's table with my TMNT suite case to ask him to sign something.  As I was digging through my suite case one of the things I had was a magazine page from Black Belt magazine that had a picture of Rob, Barry and Townsend.   When Rob saw that he grabbed it and was showing it to the others... I decided instead of grabbing the animation cells out... I'll have him sign that.  Since he liked it so much.   So there went the money I dug up with my mom.

After I left Rob that time, I stopped over near where Ernie Hudson was.  I waited for everyone who was buying autographs to leave, I wanted to just shake his hand and tell him how much I loved him as Winston Zeddmore in Ghostbusters.  We started talking, for a little bit and since he had a scrap autograph laying there (don't know the story behind it), he ended up crossing out the name on it (which was Ed hehe for any #TMNT RPers  hehe I got an autograph that was ment for ED!  LOL ).  And signed it over to me and signed his name.  I love it!  And can't thank him enough for that!!!  Happy/Smile   I really am a big Ghostbuster fan, esp when I was younger.   I than told him how my dad created the original design for State Puff, by doing the Dough Boy for the Ghoul Show, he confirmed what I told him.  And said it would of been cooler if my dad got paid for it.  They made a lot of money off of that character.   So true.   After talking to him for a bit, I went and said hi to Mark again.

This time Mark needed someone to watch his table.  So I sat down so he could get some food, while there Lisardo and her mother arived.   I told them where I was, and they got there before Mark got back so we stood around talking.  After Mark returned I let him eat and we went on our way to catch the VA panel, but than I realized I was thinking it was an hour earlier than it really was.  So we had time to walk around before the panel started.  And mom let me get money from the cash machine as long as I paid her back once I got my check cashed.  So I was able to buy another autograph.  I also used some money to buy that book from Dave.  The autograph I had done was of my T-Shirt.  I really want to get as many autographs on that shirt as I can.  I'm really honored to have one of the original VAs autograph on it!  Happy/Smile

After walking around a bit more we finally went to the panel.  This is where the good stuff come in at.   The two VAs for the panel was Grey Delisle (She's the one who's working on TMNT 4 as an extra VA) and Rob Paulsen.  Which is what I was who really got me to go.  I got a coner front roll seat... and was able to record the full panel.  I want to share a few of my clips here.

Rob's World aka Yakko's World
- More panel videos to come as I upload them -

This panel was a blast, I learned more about Grey and found she was some of my favorite voices on the Cartoon Network!  That was GREAT to learn!!!!  She's Mandy from the Grim Adventures of Bill and Mandy and many other voices.  So I had more to talk to her about after this, though I still couldn't get her autograph since it was $20.

After the panel we went back out and walked around till the end of the con.  Lisardo was able to get an animation cell autographed by Rob.  I did a few video clips around this time...

Rob as Raph
Grey as Frankie (From Fosters on Cartoon Network)

Than I did the crazy thing which I know I shouldn't have done. I put on my Turtle costume to show Rob, Lisardo walked around with me.   I walked straight back to see Rob...

Rob meets Michaelangelo

After seeing Rob I went to try and get out of the costume... though I kept getting stopped so I was in the costume longer than I planned, and one person got ahold of my right hand and sqeeze as he shook hands... I was so ready to break free from the costume after that.   We said hi to a few more people than I finally got out of the costume as the convention was closing.

After the con closed we went to Fridays for dinner.   I had pizza with salade on it.   And we sat around talking, we discussed going to the convention party that wasn't too far from there.  After we were sure to decide to go there, we went over.  When we walked in the place was totally dead... a few people here and there like the owner of the con.  Though Ernie was there so I walked up and talked a bit with him.  Than Lisardo and I checked out the hotel a bit.  We came back and talked with our mothers and they came to check out the hotel with us, after looking with them on the way back I saw Dave.  I stopped to talk with him, and called for Lisardo to stop too but I don't think she heard me as they went into the loud music room.  I talked a bit with Dave.

While talking with Dave a guy stopped and started talking to me about Turtles and how his friend is a big TMNT fan.  I went to show him autographs in the car, I told Lisardo where I was going, though she wanted to stay inside at the time with the mothers.   So I took this guy out and showed him the autograph as two of his friends came over and stood around talking with us.  Though it got really cold out, I was glad when we were done talking so I could get inside.  I brought my autograph book inside just incase I talked with anyone else.

Once I got back inside I saw Mark Bode was sitting at our table talking with the mothers... so I went over and joined the conversation.  It was really good getting a chance to talk to him when he wasn't working a booth or anything.  Happy/Smile  He got up to go around, I went out to see if I could find where Lisardo went too, though when I came back she was back at the table... soon after we all agreed it was time to go.  I said bye to my friends there, and went out.  I said good night to Lisardo and her mom, than went with my mom home for the night.

* Sunday coming the next time I get a chance to update *G* *

Awesome clips, Ivey! Though I know I've seen Rob Paulson use that "cold Turtle steel" line before. I guess that's his favorite quote; either that or it's the only one he's allowed to use in interviews.

Wow, it sounds like you had a great time, Ivey!  So far, anyway.  I'm also glad Lisardo got to meet Rob finally.  She was so upset when she missed him at San Diego Comic Con 2001.  Can't wait to hear about Sunday!

Did a write up about this story on Cowabunga Corner.

Used a lot of the writing from here though, so not much new added to it.  Though just in case people want to see here's the link.
