In light of the upcoming final Harry Potter book, and all of the associated hoopla, I thought of a quick poll regarding these books, and books in general.
When you read a book, especially one with big anticipation for how it'll end, how do you read it? Skip ahead? Read spoilers? Let it unfold as it does?

Gotta let it unfold as I read the story. The anticipation and suspense is what keeps me hanging on. If I peek ahead what's the point of reading the story? Knowing what's going to happen just spoils it all for me, so I'll keep myself hanging on (Gripping the book, edge of the seat ) till the very end. That's what I prefer at least. Mystery and suspense and drama, gotta love it!

Aww...no option for "With my eyes, goof"?? I'm one who usually just reads cover to cover...I used to peek ahead or read just the last page of the book, but I've gotten out of that habit, for some reason. Probably because my reading time has been so sharply cut down. I will check to see how far it is to the end of a chapter, though, 'cause that's how I bribe myself to put the book down and be all grown-up and stuff. Psh. Grown-up. And stuff. Bah. *G* Gotta let it unfold as I read the story. The anticipation and suspense is what keeps me hanging on. If I peek ahead what's the point of reading the story? Knowing what's going to happen just spoils it all for me, so I'll keep myself hanging on (Gripping the book, edge of the seat Razz ) till the very end. See, for me, it's not so much what's gonna happen, but how it's gonna happen. I love seeing the intricacies of plot, and character development. It's so fun seeing how twists get to a destination, and wondering what would happen if it had happened this way, or what other things would have happened if so and so did this instead of that? Would it have been a similar outcome, or something completely different? *ahem* But y'know...that's just me.

That's where the drama comes in . From how things are happening in the story and how things are going till we get to the end. More twist the better!

You lose the cadence and gist of the story, if it's well written, when you skip around. I like how JK Rowling builds a story and she is very good about pulling you in so that it's hard to stop reading. She deserves her success, she's a brilliant storyteller.

That's why I skip ahead before I start reading her books...once I start, yeah, it's hard to stop. Hmm...guess which option I chose?

*resists the urge* *resists the urge* *resists the urge* Why do I skip ahead? I love spoilers. I like knowing how things will turn out. I also used to flip ahead and read the cliffhanger endings for the chapters in Hardy Boys and Three Investigator books, years ago.

Hmm. I read mostly in the internet. I always read the first breaks to see, if it is a story I could like. If it is so, then I read from beginning to the end.

Raph: Because you resisted the urge to say something that deserves a good bapping. (As opposed to a bad bapping, whatever that is) Leo2: I get what you mean, now. Well, if you must read, then read what you like the most, it's the best motivator for practicing... too bad schools don't do that enough, at least not yet.
