Interesting question, Mikey. And I wonder if you asked it because you picked up what I was picking up on.
I voted 'no' because it seemed to me, that they were just reacting to what was said to them. They really didn't seem to me that they were comprehending exactly what was being said to them. None of them 'spoke' in English at anytime either.
I think they are intelligent. I don't know if they are physically geared to form words so they can speak a human language....but ummm......who knows? Maybe they just need a little tutoring.
But, even if they were classified as mere animals, I believe that if they lived with a human, they would be capable of picking up words and meanings. Like many of our pets do.
And then again, there might be more to them than we know at the moment.
