Monsters speak/understand English?

I'm curious if anyone thinks the Monsters in TMNT 2007, could speak or understood english?   Were they intelligent?  Or were they just animals?  

So here's a topic where we can discuss what we think of the Monsters.   I'll let a few other people vote and speak up before I say my thoughts on the subject

I am probably breaking the third/fourth/fifth walls here, but if those animals could go UNSEEN or UNHEARD of for years upon years, they have to be some sort of intelligent! My answer is yes.

I actually felt sorry for them, too.

Interesting question, Mikey. And I wonder if you asked it because you picked up what I was picking up on.

   I voted 'no' because it seemed to me, that they were just reacting to what was said to them.  They really didn't seem to me that they were comprehending exactly what was being said to them.  None of them 'spoke' in English at anytime either.

   I think they are intelligent.  I don't know if they are physically geared to form words so they can speak a human language....but ummm......who knows?  Maybe they just need a little tutoring.

   But, even if they were classified as mere animals,  I believe that if they lived with a human, they would be capable of picking up words and meanings.  Like many of our pets do.

   And then again, there might be more to them than we know at the moment.

Well Jersey Devil does swear at one point in the movie, which is why I think they can speak English as well, as understand it.  Listen to the scene when the fridge falls on him.  I even asked Billy West when I met him, if Jersey really spoke right there and said the word (can't say it on here), and he was shocked that I caught that.

  I could never hear what Jersey was saying because that scene makes me laugh too much.

      I'll have to learn to be quiet the next time I get to that part.

I think they couldn't understand english. But I do think some were very intelligent and some had lots of muscle but no brains
