Freedom of speech and a lot of people seem to believe that means they can go off on things that really don't need to be brought up...

He's a good guy and doesn't need this there, though he does draw a lot of attention from all sorts of fans since his blogs are amazing and fun to read.
I can't agree with your topic though saying "Fans suck" is so openly general... it's like saying every member of this board sucks - and you're a fan too. There are problems in fandom yes, though every fan has their own issues... so we're not something that can be put together in one stack and say we're all the same in something like that.
Some fans like one area and not the other of Turtles
Some Fans are quiet about their fandom
Some fans are loud about their fandom
Some fans love every area of the Turtles
Some fans are picky about the art work
Some fans are picky about the writing
Some fans are picky about both the art and the writing
Some fans don't like real life stuff like war and government put into TMNT
Some fans like the real life stuff
Some fans like the behind the scenes
Some fans don't care about the behind the scenes only the final product
Some fans are picky about who their friends are in the fandom
Some fans will be friends with anyone in the fandom
Some fans swear a lot
Some fans don't swear
Some fans are into writing
Some fans are into drawing
Some fans are just watchers

We are ALL different, so your topic threw me off totally on this post. Esp since I didn't see any mention of Murph stopping his blog just not liking some topics mentioned in his comment area.
I do have to speak up in defense of the TMNT fandom... why? It's because I've seen so many worse out there. True not everyone in the fandom likes me, and I don't like everyone in the fandom but we're able to go on living our own lives without attacking those we don't get along with. There are many fandoms out there where it's all using and back stabbing... "I'm friends with this person to meet this person and when I meet this person I'm going to tell them how Horrible this person is so they don't like them anymore and I'll be taking their place" I know someone who end up leaving the fandom of something they are a fan of, because of that kind of stuff going on for 10 years with only making one or two real friends.
So yes while some fans are loud and can bring things to areas where they're not wanted - it can not be rounded up to "Fans Suck" because we're not all those people. Now if you said "Some Fans Suck" than I don't think I would of felt the way I did when I first opened this post. :p
