The synopsis is taken from the Mirage website:

From the darkened sewers of New York to the mysterious splendor of China and beyond our world to the shadowy realm of the evil Dragon Lord, this is the initial episode that reignites the blazing glory of the Ninja Turtles universe!

Things have changed quite a bit since we've last visited the Turtles: approaching age eighteen, each Turtle has grown more individualistic. Michaelangelo is still a fun-loving dude and Donatello is still (if not more of) a techno-whiz, Leonardo has become a more serious leader, while Raphael has grown wilder and seemingly less disciplined. Tension exists between Leo and Raph where it didn't before. And Master Splinter, ever the wise mentor, seems to have aged greatly.

Shredder and the Foot Clan still plague our heroes, more desperate than ever to defeat Splinter and the Turtles. Meanwhile, far more dangerous adversaries begin to emerge from the shadows.

In China, the Shinobi master Chung I, whose role is to keep the dread Dragon Lord and his warriors trapped inside an ancient mystic mirror, sees that the villains have begun to gain a foothold in the Realm of Dreams. This mystic plane is the spiritual refuge often visited by Splinter in astral form.

It is when Splinter's spirit is captured by the Dragon Lord and his physical body is left dying on Earth that Chung I sends his adopted daughter to New York to lead Splinter's pupils into the dream realm to rescue their rat master.

The Shredder, meanwhile, recently defeated in a skirmish against the Turtles, escaped with the knowledge of the Turtles' headquarters... and now plans a full-scale attack on the TMNT and their dying master.

Our initial episode closes as we learn that Chung I's adopted daughter is a mutant turtle!

My favorite part of this episode is starting off with fighting the Foot so you can see that the turtles are still involved with the Foot and Shredder. I just like how it sort of still brings in the old then turns to the new.

I honestly love this show. I think for me this is probably has the truest Donatello personality. I really love how they portray him in the show even Raphael. Don and Raph really clash in the show overall, which you see a lot in the comic books.

Another thing is that at least the costumes were better than the third movie LOL and each of them kind of have their own unique version.

Please talk about this episode, what did you like... what you didn't like... ect.... anything you would of changed?

There's so much to the Next Mutation episodes which have not been aired or even mentioned in many places.  So I'll like to take the time here on this board to share stuff of the Next Mutation which we normally don't get to see or hear.   I'll also be adding information to the top of the first posts (for any episode I have the information for), with Kaz's permission of course.

First I'll like to write that I remember hearing from a friend who saw the uncut part where Chung I dies...  it was so strongly played off that it brought tears to my friend's eyes.  It sadly had to be re shot, because it needed to be done for children.  So the scene is still the same, just not done as well as it originally was.

This episode has a lot of good and some annoying stuff to it.  One of the annoying things for me was the mouth not matching up to the voice during Raph's fight with the Foot Clan at the beginning of the episode.  This should of been fixed by tech while looping, though they didn't seem to get it done right and will always be a pet peeve of mine, esp being in the first episode where most people are getting their first impression of the series.  I'm glad it wasn't this bad through most of the series.  Another annoying thing for me was the sound affects, they were not needed the series would of been better without them.  And the shots of the hummer driving... in the first episode they use that shot and there's Venus in the hummer with them, even though they haven't even met her yet.... oy....

Though I think everyone agrees with me on one thing... something annoying with any TV Show or Movie is scenes being cut from the series.  I'll like to share a few cut lines now.  I can't say how or when, though I do have a handful of the scripts and seeing as how they are over 10 years old now I think it wouldn't be too harmful to share.  I won't be typing up the full script, though scenes that would of made a scene flow just right.

- First cut scene is from when Shredder is telling off the Foot from loosing to Raphael and Splinter.

Shredder (CONT):
Tell me, why has my family not extended its black claw beyond the borders of this city?  Why do we continue to fall short of our glorious goals - Of our destiny?  Of my destiny?

Everyone's silent, mortified.

Shredder (CONT):
Who are my enemies?

Uneasy silence.

Shredder (COUNT):
I SAID, WHO ARE MY ENEMIES?!

Elite Guard:
The Turtles!

Shredder ---- cut line -----
My enemies are anyone who stands between me and my destiny!
----- cut ends ------
Shredder hooks a claw into an Elite Guard's collar and pulls him close to his iron mask.

Shredder:
Right now, you, and these pathetic warriors you trained seems to be standing between me and my destiny.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so it was one line... but it made it so the next line made more since.  At least if you ask me.

- Second cut scene is from after that scene with Shredder

Ext. Shredder's compound - Night

The two disgraced Elite Guards who Shredder abused are talking and tending to their bruises.

Elite Guard #1:
Next time, he'll rip our heads off.  I've seen him do it, it's not pretty.

Elite Guard #2:
If we could only attack the Turtles when they don't except us - On their turf.

Elite Guard #1:
New strategy! - We spy.  We watch.  And we wait.  Let the order go out - No more battling the Freaks in the street.  We assemble an exceptional group of stealthy shadow Foot.  We will attack the Freaks only when we've discovered the precise location of their lair!

Elite Guard #2:
We'll hit 'em at home!
(beat)
You actually saw him rip a guy's head off?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

wow re watching the episode with the script here and seeing so much out of order.  You know the Splinter talk with Raph was originally written in for before Shredder talk to the Foot.  And than the part with Chung I and Venus ("To take back the World") was written for after Mikey's crashing through the wall.  Hard to keep things in order, when it wasn't even edited in order in the show.

- added in episode the -

The Foot was Not in the sewer following Michaelangelo...

- Next cut scene

Ext. Rooftop - Night[/u]

Leonardo is standing on a rooftop overlooking the city as Raphael approaches.

Raphael:
Alright, so I know you didn't ask me up here to dance.

Leonardo is trying to be civil.

Leonardo:
I thought maybe we could talk.

Raphael:
You don't talk Leo - You lecture.

Leonardo:
How come you're never home?

Raphael:
Home?! Is that what you call it?  It's a sewer, Leo!  We live in a cesspool!

Leonardo:
The sewer is damp, we're reptiles - There's no shame in...

Raphael:
Yeah - We're reptiles and our father's a rat!  Oh, and I'm a Ninja! Ha!
(blows up)
A reptile Ninja with a rat father who lives in a swer!  I'm the health inspector's worst nightmare!

Leonardo:
We're all each other have.  You need to chill out.  You're going to expose us to the humans!

Raphael:
Humans!  That's right, I forgot, this is their world.
(bitter)
Nature picked the monkey to grow a big brain and run the planet - Not rodents!  Not reptiles!

Leonardo:
Okay.  Fine.  That's our world in a nutshell - Now, how do we live the best lives we can?

Raphael:
I'm working on it.

Raphael turns and storms off.

Leonardo:
Really?  Looks to me like you're running from it!

Camer Sweeps back to reveal two shadowy figures watching Leonardo and Raphael - These are Foot Soldiers armed with walkie-talkies.
---------------------------------------

You know I was going insane typing this up, because I've heard these lines before.  I'm sitting here going... - Wait... I heard this, but I know it's not in the episode! -  than it hit me where I heard it, I've had the voice actors read this part of the script.

Here's video of the script reading

Next cut scene is a personal favorite of mine, I was SO disappointed that it did NOT make it into the series.  *pout*

INT. Turtles HQ - NIGHT

Donatello and Michaelangelo are at the computer, on the Web.

Donatello:
(Reads screen)
She wants to know how old we are.

Michaelangelo:
I love chat rooms - How else can a cold blooded reptile meet a hot blooded babe? Tell her our age.

Donatello:
(Typing)
We're eighteen.
(Reads)
She and her friend just turned seventeen.

Michaelangelo:
Touch down!

Donatello:
Uh-oh, they want to know what we look like.

Michaelangelo:
Tell her the truth.  Tell her we're strong, handsome, intelligent, into martial arts, and fast machines.

Donatello:
Leave out the green part?

Michaelangelo:
Leave out the green part.

--------------------------------
I SO LOVE THAT Part!    The next part follows directly after that.

EXT. THE STREETS - NIGHT

TRACKING FAST with Raphael's muscel bike - He's moving fast.  Raphael guns-it, the bike roars and surges forward!

ANGLE ON ROOFTOP, as Raphael tears by WE SEE more spy Foot.

Foot #1:
(Into Walkie-talkie)
I got one! Headin' north on 9th!
(Beat)
It's makin' a left toward the park!

ANGLE ON SPY FOOT #2, he's in a tree, as the bike flies part.

Foot #2:
(Into Walkie-talkie)
I've got a visual! Track 'im west!
------------------------------------

Now fit in Splinter getting caught by Dragon Lord..   than put in the Foot saying "They got im" than Chung I getting hit by Dragon Lord, than the Foot going to the lair... which starts off the same way...   A cut scene during the fight.

Leonardo ENTERS, sees the brawl, and draws his Katana.

Leonardo:
How'd the Foot get in here?!?!

Michaelangelo:
Raph brought 'em!

Raphael frowns - Leonardo smirks knowingly, and joins the fight.

---------------------------------

A cut line from the end of the fight.

The Turtles realize the fight is ending.  The Foot have been beaten back - the last Warriors retreat.

Leonardo
The Foot know where we live now!  This was just to soften us up.  There'll be a second assault.  We gotta book...!
-------------------------------------

Now for the full death scene with Chung I.  Not sure if all these lines were recorded or not, not sure if this is the scene my friend saw.  Though I do know this is what the script had and there's extra lines.

INT. MASTER CHUNG I'S MIRROR CHAMBER (CHINA)

Chung I is lying on the floor.  The Hooded Girl is kneeling over him.  She's sobbing.

Chung I:
(Wheezing)
There isn't much time.  You are almost eighteen, and very accomplished in the Internal Arts... I've taught you almost everything I know... You are Shinobie.

Hood Girl:
I'm frightened, Chung I!

Chung I
... In my temple, in a box, you will find money, and the name of a cargo plane pilot...

Hooded Girl:
I don't understand.

Chung I:
It's time you expanded your horizons, Mei Pieh Chi... You have a great responsibitiy now.
(Gasps)
The city of New York.  You must leave tonight... There's a manhole on the lower East side you will need to locate... You must do as I say!

The Apprentice removes her hood...

WE SEE A FEMALUE MUTANT TURTLE - A tear rolls down her cheek.

Mei Pieh Chi:
Yes, Chung I... I will do as you say.  I will go to America.
-----------------------------------

I hope everyone enjoyed this.  Maybe I'll be able to do this for other episodes as well.  I'll try to keep up with Kaz here when I can.

Mirage episode information - With ninjaturtles.com getting a make over soon and us not knowing what is going to be there, I am going to copy the text here to keep it safe for those who want to read what Mirage put on the site.  Doing this for each of the episodes.

"East Meets West Part" 1

Originally aired 9/12/97

From the darkened sewers of New York to the mysterious splendor of China and beyond our world to the shadowy realm of the evil Dragon Lord, this is the initial episode that reignites the blazing glory of the Ninja Turtles universe!
