I had to crank out the episode I had earlier for this one because I totaly DID not remember Don saying "That did not just happen!" But then he did say it so I really didn't remember this episode at all!

It was really good to finally see a NT episode on television! I am pleased! I can't wait for further into the season! I am still shocked that Michelangelo went against Leonardo's orders and said, "Real World this."

It was great seeing this episode with the Kappas.  I really did feel bad for Leo not getting a weapon and than when he helps out and gets hurt how his injury is over looked by those who sent them into this danger.  Splinter wasn't kidding about them.  Michelangelo was a little show off in this, though you'd think he'd know to take things a bit more serious when there is real danger at hand.  Like when he went to get the chest.  On the bridge I don't know, I could see him being goofing.

I LOVED THE WATER DRAGON!!!!!  *G*

Again, it's so good to see this animation version of TMNT on television.  It's so easy on the eyes.  But, what I also equally appreciate is the riveting storyline.

And I love the mystical, body-paint effect on the Turtles when they focus their energy.

This was a totally awesome ep. Yeah, Mikey is a show-off, but what else is new? I loved how he imitated the two Tribunal members and how he kinda messed up going over the bridge. I felt sorry for Leo too, and I was also angry when Juto pushed him. Seeing Leo get hurt was horrible, and I wanted to give him a hug, just as I always do when he gets hurt. I can't wait for the next ep because it looks like it's gonna be cool. This ep gets a 10/10 from me. And kudos to Splinter for sticking up for his sons. I've missed that.

I did enjoy this episode and I thought that in terms of plot that it did better than the previous episode. I enjoyed the first tribunal guy about stealth, and how he was trying to explain the the three pillars of ninjitsu disipline.

I think this episode really emphasised the terrible resentment Splinter has against the tribunal. With just cause. I liked how the writers gave Splinter Splinter's dream with him running in terror with his sons as the Shredder chases them them down and kills his sons and then the vision of Master yoshi appearing before Splinter and them dying in front of him sent a very clear message on why he feels as bitter as he doesw toward the tribunal. Because of the Tribunal and their lack of regard for him, he lost Yoshi, so of course he is bitter about it. Now because the tribunal need fighters to champion their cause, the tribunal want to send the turtles potencialy to their deaths just to save their artifact, with out a care to the turtles safety. The Tribunal are trying to take another thing from Splinter that he loves and he is peed off about it.

The tribunal are a cold ends-justify-the-means lot of gackfaces who really have little care for any one but there own gain. Yes, in this instance of the tengue Shredder being an evil menace that is a threat to the world makes their desire to get the last artifact a noble one justifying their calculating at-all-costs attitudes toward the acolytes. However if the worlds safety wheren't in danger the Tribunals calus high handed manner toward the acolytes for the protection of their artifact, they would still have little concern for their safety. And Splinter knows this, which is why he is so distraut over the turtles involvment in this whole ore deal. For the first time in the series you really see Splinter react scared with what the turtles are involved in due to how mercinary the Tribunal is. Up until this point no matter how over their heads the turtles have gotten into Splinter has always had some measure of control of the situation. I really felt Splinter's fatherly grief when he woke up from his dream and looked around at his blissfully sleeping sons and lowered his head and said a bit helplessly "oh, what have you gotten your selves into". Sad/Down A good Splinter moment here.

But enough about Splinter, I also really enjoyed other things about this episode as well. I enjoyed seeing my turtles acting more like them selves again. I felt really bad for leo in this episode with all the pushing around he endured, it must have been a bit humilating for him to be the only one not to get a weapon  when every one else--even slacker Mikey who was taken to task twice in this episode, got a weapon from the fire forge. Speaking of the forge I loved seeing Raphael step up and act like his old kick shell self again. This is the good ol' Raphael that I remember Very Happy/Big Grin back again with his "oh, I know your not talking smack about master Splinter" self and going up to that fire and showing that cocky weapons dude what Splinter's students are all about. Man I love it when Raphael gets like that, and he has the most perfect "f*ck off, buddy" way of doing it LOL!

I also liked the bit in the beginning where Mikey is making fun of the Tribunal, LOL I don't normally find Mikey's antics laugh out loud funny, but for reason he had me giggling with his poking fun of the tribunal, as well as his out spoken "oh crap" expression when that huge stealth guy showed up behind him. Incidently I noticed that Mikey was getting picked on a bit in this episode too. Not only was he picked to do the bridge thing (even though it was both Raph and Mikey making fun of Leo, The Ancient One seems  to have taken a page from the turtles book and goes up side Mikey's head at every given chance **sigh** I think he smacked him at least four times in ten minutes, even when Mikey was trying to talk his way through the whole focusing thing and trying to seriously attempt it (and it was cool to see him succeed at it), and then agian when he asked to do a do over (with the bridge incident) when I think Mikey was actually genuanly asking to try again since he messed up. One thing that sort of suprised me though was Mikey sort of talking back to Leo when they went up against the kappa demons, when Leo said to keep their fighting in reality, and Mikey says "reality this" and focuses his chi to zap himself over to the chest. It supriced me because I notice that Mikey less likely to talk back to Leo than even Don is when it comes to battle situations, and Mikey's remark I took as a mild form "screw you" to Leo. Surprised

He also didn't go up to the forge with the others. He hung back. Why? Is he still thinking he's not good enough?

Yes, everyone needs to stop smacking Mikey. But in this season, there are no do-overs. The stakes have been raised in a big way, and Mike needs to learn that. Quickly.

This is a lesson Leo needs to learn: reality has changed. When they approach the kappa, I don't think he's quite bought into the magical chi thing yet. But then, let's look at his experiences with it so far.

1. Don achieves focus while reading a book. Leo backs away in what seems to be fear.

2. Don focuses again while fighting the fire demon. He tries to tell Leo something important, and immediately gets flattened.

3. Mike focuses on the bridge, takes one step, loses focus, and gets attacked by a water dragon.

4. Raph focuses to enter the forge, and then appears to get roasted alive.

If I were Leo, I wouldn't trust this chi thing either.

Good point. And when Leo didn't get the weapon he totally couldn't understand it. And then to suffer the "incomprehensible pain" after retrieving the artifact had to be hard on him, too. I think Leo does doubt his abilities sometimes, and especially here when there is a hard battle to fight.

I liked the fight between the acolytes and the kappa demons. I liked how the fact that the kappas could change into water made tradional fighting methods useless. I know that the chi use seems really anime-ish and silly but I like the idea of the turtles not being able to fight a super natural menace with physical means and have to fight with a spiritual fighting technique. The only thing I found corny and irritating was the shouting out the name of the weapons as they used them thing. That was an eye roller, as big an eye roller as the turtles shouting out "it's ninja time" in FF . And yet again the Tribunal show what calculating jerks they are when they are voice their disdain over Leo and that other dude getting hurt and how they should have been left behind, even though it was Leo that made it possiable to rescue the damn chest in the first place. What i did find saticfying was Splinter getting up in the tribunal's faces over their disregard for his sons welfare and practically demanding that they thank them for risking their lives to save their artifact. And speaking of the artifact, did any one think it was just plain stupidity on the Tribunals part to leave a important, powerful artifact that they them selves said could cause the down fall of the world OUT IN THE OPEN where any one can get at it? When it was supposed to be heavily gaurded? And yet the Tribunal still have the gall to act self important about it.

Good question. I'm not sure why he hung back, but then Leo is the kind of person who likes to observe before jumping into situations, so maybe his reluctance to go up to the forge was more of him wanting to feel things out rather than self doubt.

Every one takes their "right" to deck Mikey for granted, but seeing the ancient one take advantage of it was a bit annoying.  Rolling Eyes But I think Mikey did learn that and was showing it when he asked if he could do it again, if the big aim of that lesson was to get every one to focus and and learn how to use their chi powers, than why refuse the student when he wants to try again to perfect it? I mean these guys make it seem like it is so important that they learn these chi techniques, so why not be accomindating enough to let them learn  Rolling Eyes

oh and about Mikey...how nice of it of the writers to let Mikey have a cool moment of seriousness and actually acomplish something important (like focusing his chi to get himself over to the chest) and then have him undermine himself by screwing it up by calling attention to himself  And make the situation worse.

This was kind of confusing. I *think* that previously, the Tribunal said they only had one of the three artifacts, and it was safely hidden in the Lap of the Gods. The chest was one of the artifacts stolen by... someone. In this episode the Tribunal said they had discovered its location, and they sent the Acolytes to retrieve it. So this was not a mistake by the Tribunal, but a classic villain error.

Well, but this is Mikey's character flaw. He has no self-control. Judging by his ability to lay the smackdown on Kluh when he realized the rematch was a serious fight, and on the Peacekeepers when they stood between him and video games, he would be a ridiculously powerful ninja if he could just concentrate for more than ten seconds. But then he would be Leo without the obsessive perfectionism. And that wouldn't be any fun to watch.

Yeah, all of the Turtles have character flaws. It just shows that they are human to some extent.

I wouldn't call Mikey's flaw no self control, it's more ADHD... no attention span.  Unless it's something he really likes, than he pays too much attention to it (like comics).  No self control would mean that he'd be a danger to not just himself but to his brothers when he trains.

Mikey's attention would be fully at fault for him getting excited... but it's not like it's his first time doing something right... he's helped so much with the missions in this series.

Maybe self-control was the wrong word. I didn't mean that he flails around. I just meant that he tends to do things as soon as he thinks of them, without stopping to consider whether shouting about his victory is really a wise course of action when a dozen demons are looking for him. He gets distracted and forgets what he's supposed to be doing.

Well.... yes. But I'm reluctant to say any of the Turtles are actually diagnosable, even if the idea of Teenage Mutant Handicapped Turtles does amuse me. (Really. What are the odds an alien ooze had absolutely no harmful effects on baby Earth animals?)
