Hey there, I just picked up a turtle blimp (which I have been patching little holes on all day) I never owned one when I was a kid but always wanted one. I was just looking at the ninja turtles site in the toy archive and the blimp they have listed from 1988 looks totally different from mine.

I know I have seen pictures of the one I have. The date on it is 1986, it is darker green with the chrome engines on the side. Was this a different early version? Does anyone have any info on this model?

Thanks!! Happy/Smile

Welcome to TMNT-L!

Is there away you can post a picture of the one you got?

Sounds like you got a first edition.  It shouldn't even have anything saying 1986 since none of the toys came out that early.  That was still in the dealing days with Mark Freedman.  Are you sure it's not saying 1988?

I'm not at home right at this second so I am not sure if it actually says 1986 although I thought thats what it said. I was also thinking that should not be the case as that would be to early. Here is a pic (not my actual blimp but one online) How many versions was there? http://www.tmnttoys.com/blimp.jpg

That is an original, I'm trying to recall the year it came out.  I got both versions of the blimp that came out, the other one came out in the 90's.  And I didn't care for it as much as the first one.

I am missing only two small parts from this blimp. One of the rear small wings (again need to check which side) and one of the small clear holders that wraps around the wing and holds the blimp to the wing. Otherwise all the bombs and everything is there.

Can/should I post wanted requests on here? I am looking for a few specific TMNT toys (such as a sewer playset loose if not in the box). Should I ask about those things on here?

I might have the sewer playset... potentially even all the pieces of it. *looks at cabinet* I really should open you and see what's inside.

Hahahaha, I am assuming you mean "open it" not "open me" hahaha I am looking for one at a good price. I'll post on the buy/sell page.

The blimp... I checked and it DOES say 1986.... strange because they didn't even start the show yet. I am also STILL trying to make it hold air. I think I have patched the last of the little pin holes. So it says "SpearHead Inc. C. 1986 made in China" on the back. The plastic part that hangs from the blimp says Plyamates 1988 although it may not have been the one that origionally came with this blimp.

No, I meant "open you". I was addressing the cabinet. I really don't need to know what's inside *you*. Unless it's, y'know, marshmallows. Are you made of marshmallows? Cuz that would be cool.

hahaha ok, my bad! Well I might be made of marshmallows I'm not sure, at least for now I sort of look like I am hahaha.

I think the air has stopped leaking out of the blimp. I found the best way to patch the holes without seeing the patches is by using model cement and then covering the patch with a small square of clear packing tape. This glue bonds or melts into the rubber making a good patch. I made a total of 11 patches. I think this thing was well played with but still looks great!!

My OG blimp has 1986 Spearhead around the mouth piece too.  strange...
So how long do these things normally stay inflated.  Even when new mine was pretty sad at the end of the week.

Well I got tired of covering the thing with soapy water trying to find little holes so I found a better way of doing it. The blimp should stay inflated and not really lose any air so you can hang it up or what ever. So here is the best fix I found so far.

Go down to a home depot or hardware store. Find one of those squeeze tubes of calking but make sure it is a LATEX / silicon calk so you can mix it with water. Cut off the end (not the pointy end the flat end) and empty the contents. mix a little bit of water until you reach a desired runnyness. Put it back in the tube it came in. Cut the small tip off and stick it in the blimp blow up opening and squeeze it all in. The idea is to have it watery enough to splash around in there and coat the inside so when it dries it fills the little holes.

Let me know if it works for you. You may have to do it more than once.
