Hey everyone,

My favorite singing group has been "The Monkees" for almost as long as I can remember.  I got into them while still young, since Miki was a fan and would play the music all the time.  I know so many of their songs by heart.   And I've watched the show over and over.  I've learn about each of the Monkee's history where they're from how they got started, and how they became a Monkee.

Out of the Monkees in character wise, my lease favorite would be Davy.  I wasn't a fan of the guy who went after the girls all the time, I think it was the stars in the eyes that would turn me off.   Though my favorite Monkee has always been Micky!  He's funny and always a ton of laughs!

Favorite song for me is hard to choose, I have favorites on every record.  Yes Records, that's how I started to listen to the Monkees.  True I got CDs now, but Miki has all the records.... and it's always fun to listen to them.

I have seen the Monkees before in concert, well all but Mike.  He doesn't travel with the others at all anymore.

So are you a Monkees fan?

Who's your favorite?  Why?   Favorite song?  Favorite episode?

I am now a Monkee's fan after a good friend introduced me to their music. I do not have a favorite Monkee though, nor a favorite episode.

As far as songs go though right now I like all of them. Can't pick one out of all of them either. Razz

How the heck did I miss this topic??

Fave Monkee?  Peter. With Mike a close second....then Micky close behind there. Then poor Davy at the end.

Got all of the eps on DVD & Video...got the 33 1/3 special, movie Head, and the Just Us special, as well as the Daydream Believer movie.

Got albums...and CDs..um...not sure how many. I think it's in the 40s (multiple copies of a lot of the albums, plus a bootleg or two, plus one that's actually a Beatles' record).

Fave song?  Hmm...Pleasant Valley Sunday, Circle Sky (Live), Riu Chiu...

Fave episode?  Fairy Tale (What's not to love about Mike as the fair princess Gwen?), Devil & Peter Tork ("You can't say HeII on televison" LOL!)...

Well this seems to be a Monkee month for me, getting to see both the Monkee Mobile and Micky at Motor City Comic Con, and now that I'm not going on the trip tonight it looks like I'll be at a Micky concert tomorrow night.   *shrugs*  It's amazing how one plan can replace another plan so fast.

Concert was a lot of fun, I'll talk more about it tomorrow.

Just wanted to say Micky played some great songs!  Some of which I've never seen him down on stage before, I really did enjoy the show!

Hey everyone,

As I said I would I'm doing a short review of the Micky concert I went to on Saturday night.

Miki, Mika (one of Miki's friends) and I drove up there.  It was suppose to be a 5+ hour drive with the rout we took (to try and avoid a bridge being out on I-75 North bound) and we had less than 5 hours to show time.  As we started the drive we got a call asking for Miki to help work selling CDs and stuff at the show.  So we had to pick up the pace to try and get there.  The call also scared us saying it started at 7:30, though lucky for us the person who called was wrong and it started at 8pm.

I was able to some how get us there just minutes before the show started.  They said not to worry about the sale stuff till the show was over.  We took our seats and watched as Micky came on stage.  It's been a few years since I've been to a Monkee show, I think Freedom Hill here in Michigan about 6 or 7 years ago was my last time.  Peter, Davy and Micky were all there.  So I did enjoy getting to see him up on stage again after all these years.

Pleasant Valley Sunday, That was Than this is Now, She, A little bit Me A little bit You, She, Words, Last Train to Clarksville, and I'm not your Steppin Stone was just some of the songs played while he was up there that night.  I still get weirded out when I hear them play songs that was not originally their songs like "A Little bit Me" is one I'm more use to hearing Davy sing, and he also did "Daydream Believer".   Though I did love seeing him at the Drums for "Mary Mary".

He told stories in between some of the songs... of why he's singing the songs he's singing.  One of the songs that he sang was "Johnny Be Good" and everyone may question what that has to do with the Monkees, though Micky told us that this is the song that he had to sing when he was trying out for the Monkees, so it's the one that got him his job.

Micky started to go on about how he's been doing plays on Broadway lately, and because of this he was going to a lot of other Broadway shows.  One time he went in and heard a Monkees song, and than preformed the song he heard.  It was D.W. Washburn, which is a song I love that they did!  I was thrilled to see him perform it in person, never saw them do that song at a concert before.

At one point I felt of our Raphers here on TMNT-L, as Micky started to talk about the Beatles and how he got to go to a recording session to watch them do "Oh Darling".  When he went he got all dressed up for it, dressed in bright colors and such kind of funny looking I don't think I could describe it as well as Micky did on stage... and when he walked in he said it reminded him of his gym from high school and all four Beatles were sitting there in t-shirts and jeans.  John called him Monkee boy, Micky seemed amused by this.  So he sang "Oh Darling".

He ended the show with "I'm a Believer" heh which he had to note that he sang it long before Sherk!

Peter Noon was next, as he came out singing classics like Mrs. Brown, I'm Into Something Good, No Milk Today, Can't You Hear My Heartbeat  and my personal favorite I'm Henry VIII, I Am.  Peter spent a lot of time doing a comedy act.  He picked on the tiny town that we were in, and how hard it was for him to find (I had a GPS so I cheated Wink ).  And picked on how there wasn't any Star Bucks there in town.... the crowd fought back against that... but no one could say where the Star Bucks was.   Someone asked him if he walked through down town and he said "Yeah, a full minute and a half walk".  He also went through the crowd giving away free CDs.

Over all it was a great show!

After the show we hung out at the table where stuff was being sold.  Miki was up there helping sell stuff.  Micky's sister Coco was there, so she came up and we started talking.  I introduced myself as Miki's sister to Coco and Coco got a big grin on her face as she said "I'm Micky's Sister" we got a laugh out of that.  I also saw an old friend of ours named David, who plays keyboard for the Monkees.  We've known him since he worked on the "Live Brady Bunch Show" back in 1994.  He was happy to see me, but I had to keep backing away till he was filled in about my arm... I can't wait till I get my surgery.

After working the table, we got some drinks and went for dinner.  Where Miki and I bumped into an old school friend.... kind insane seeing someone from school so far away.... than came the drive hom.

Sounds like a great show... it would be interesting to see him doing something like Oh! Darling (considering the Beatles never performed it live...not sure if any of the solo Beatles have or not).

And I see he played the one Monkees song we totally disagree on. I don't know why, but DW Washburn has always rubbed me the wrong way.   Wink  To each his own, as they say...

Yeah, I'm not a fan at all of the DW Washburn song. I think my favorite is "THat was then, this is Now".

Glad you had fun! The concert sounded fun. Happy/Smile

I don't know why but DW Washburn is one of those songs that get stuck in my head from time to time....  and I don't even own the song, I know it's gotta be in Miki's collection.

I love a Lot of Monkee songs!  There has to be some I don't care for, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Hmm...let's see...

DW Washburn
Shoot...Davy song...1st or 2nd album...mostly spoken... Ah! The Day We Fall In Love, 2nd album - Oh, really don't like that one.
Oh, and "She's Moving In WIth Rico" from Pool It.

Sandra hates "Going Down"...which is the best reason possible for trying to include it on our 'car tapes'.  LOL

I Love Going Down!!!!   That's such a great song, and Miki some how can sing right along with it... there's parts where I can, but other parts Micky is just singing too fast.

I love the full first album I know that, including the added on songs on the CD that wasn't part of the original first album.  My favorite song as a kid was "I'm gonna buy me a dog"  It took me a long time to start liking Mike's songs.  I loved Micky's music first, Peter next, than Davy... and it wasn't till I got a car and had the music on while driving that I got into Mike's.   "For Pete's Sake" was a favorite even in grade school.  It was one of the first songs I got myself to learn beginning to end.

I can sing along with most of Goin' Down too. Wink  (although, trying it from memory while the radio is playing John Cougar is not so easy *G*)

For Pete's Sake is one of my fave Peter songs (even though Micky sings it).  Mike's songs tend to have a bit more of a country edge to them, so it can be harder to get into them...although Circle Sky (the live version) is a real rocker and a definite favourite.

"'Wait a minute! I'm fixin' to walk out there in front of fifteen thousand people, man. If I don't play my own instruments I'm in a lotta trouble!"
