Hey everyone,
As I said I would I'm doing a short review of the Micky concert I went to on Saturday night.
Miki, Mika (one of Miki's friends) and I drove up there. It was suppose to be a 5+ hour drive with the rout we took (to try and avoid a bridge being out on I-75 North bound) and we had less than 5 hours to show time. As we started the drive we got a call asking for Miki to help work selling CDs and stuff at the show. So we had to pick up the pace to try and get there. The call also scared us saying it started at 7:30, though lucky for us the person who called was wrong and it started at 8pm.
I was able to some how get us there just minutes before the show started. They said not to worry about the sale stuff till the show was over. We took our seats and watched as Micky came on stage. It's been a few years since I've been to a Monkee show, I think Freedom Hill here in Michigan about 6 or 7 years ago was my last time. Peter, Davy and Micky were all there. So I did enjoy getting to see him up on stage again after all these years.
Pleasant Valley Sunday, That was Than this is Now, She, A little bit Me A little bit You, She, Words, Last Train to Clarksville, and I'm not your Steppin Stone was just some of the songs played while he was up there that night. I still get weirded out when I hear them play songs that was not originally their songs like "A Little bit Me" is one I'm more use to hearing Davy sing, and he also did "Daydream Believer". Though I did love seeing him at the Drums for "Mary Mary".
He told stories in between some of the songs... of why he's singing the songs he's singing. One of the songs that he sang was "Johnny Be Good" and everyone may question what that has to do with the Monkees, though Micky told us that this is the song that he had to sing when he was trying out for the Monkees, so it's the one that got him his job.
Micky started to go on about how he's been doing plays on Broadway lately, and because of this he was going to a lot of other Broadway shows. One time he went in and heard a Monkees song, and than preformed the song he heard. It was D.W. Washburn, which is a song I love that they did! I was thrilled to see him perform it in person, never saw them do that song at a concert before.
At one point I felt of our Raphers here on TMNT-L, as Micky started to talk about the Beatles and how he got to go to a recording session to watch them do "Oh Darling". When he went he got all dressed up for it, dressed in bright colors and such kind of funny looking I don't think I could describe it as well as Micky did on stage... and when he walked in he said it reminded him of his gym from high school and all four Beatles were sitting there in t-shirts and jeans. John called him Monkee boy, Micky seemed amused by this. So he sang "Oh Darling".
He ended the show with "I'm a Believer" heh which he had to note that he sang it long before Sherk!
Peter Noon was next, as he came out singing classics like Mrs. Brown, I'm Into Something Good, No Milk Today, Can't You Hear My Heartbeat and my personal favorite I'm Henry VIII, I Am. Peter spent a lot of time doing a comedy act. He picked on the tiny town that we were in, and how hard it was for him to find (I had a GPS so I cheated

). And picked on how there wasn't any Star Bucks there in town.... the crowd fought back against that... but no one could say where the Star Bucks was. Someone asked him if he walked through down town and he said "Yeah, a full minute and a half walk". He also went through the crowd giving away free CDs.
Over all it was a great show!
After the show we hung out at the table where stuff was being sold. Miki was up there helping sell stuff. Micky's sister Coco was there, so she came up and we started talking. I introduced myself as Miki's sister to Coco and Coco got a big grin on her face as she said "I'm Micky's Sister" we got a laugh out of that. I also saw an old friend of ours named David, who plays keyboard for the Monkees. We've known him since he worked on the "Live Brady Bunch Show" back in 1994. He was happy to see me, but I had to keep backing away till he was filled in about my arm... I can't wait till I get my surgery.
After working the table, we got some drinks and went for dinner. Where Miki and I bumped into an old school friend.... kind insane seeing someone from school so far away.... than came the drive hom.
