Okay, yeah, Iruka on this message board.... needs a job to live in the country, because her stupid-jerky husband  is an idiot and forgot to remove the conditions of their marriage within the 1-2 years they were married. Well... now we have, but the big problem is that He never put her on anything of his, He didn't put her on insurance, his bank account, or the house... which would prove to the government that she was a legit citizen and not just here to be here.

So anyways, now what she needs to stay in the country is a job, and a bank account with her name on it and possibly an apartment of her own with her name on it! Something that proves that she's TRYING to be a good citizen.

SO SHE GETS this job only like 2 days ago, because Bobbie the owner is our friend. Mimi worked the first day and did FANTASTIC according to the Manager and Owner. Then Yesterday she did really good or so the Manager said then...  HOWEVER...... .Her comes the rant...

SOME STUPID IDIOT girl a really preppy Biatch who doesn't even work there, she's only temping for that one day, comes in... and starts treating Iruka like CRAP!! Joanna, is her name, and apparently she was extremely snappy, and rude, to Iruka and even a customer complained about her to Annette(The Manager) that day! Joanna was supposed to show Iruka how to do things, instead she did EVERYTHING FOR Iruka...! Which wasn't supposed to be done. So Iruka was telling me about this and I told her that she should tell The Manager and Owner about it, but Iruka being the nice person she is wasn't going to do that because she didn't want to be mean.

WELL Joanna beat her to it and Told Bobbie I guess some pretty mean and nasty things like Iruka didn't even know how to count change. Iruka KNOWS how to count change but this is Iruka's first job -EVER-....she's gonna be slow... !! and Not to mention that she's still in training and only on her first week! Give the girl some slack!! Oy...

So I was now told that if Iruka doesn't know how to count change faster.... SOON.... Iruka isn't going to have a job there for very long.... Sad/Down *sighs and nearly cries* ... It's so stupid...just when things were looking up...they're now looking down again... all because of one witch...!! ><;;  I HATE her... she seemed really.. grargh.. When I met her too..

Wow! Sorry to hear that, Eclipse. I hope things get better for her soon. Yeah, people can be jerks at times. But, don't worry, you and Iruka can always come here if you need someone to talk to.

*hugs Eclipse and Iruka*

Thanks...! *hugs back tightly* I feel better now that I've vented.

Honestly, with how they sounded when they hired her it was like they expected her to know everything even though this was the first time she's worked!

Honestly, a baby can't be born and just Walk...! It's gotta crawl first folks, sheesh, give the chick some time! It's only her 3rd Day of work -ever-!

 Shocked

Ouch! That's just...beyond awful!

That temp really had no right to say anything to anybody, especially someone who was working their permanently and not just for a few days. I've done a bit of temp work myself and never thought it was my place to correct anyone who worked there permanently. That's what the management is for.

I also got the "catch on immediately" treatment quite frequently in jobs. I usually ended up quitting those jobs just because it got so nasty and became so stressful, I wasn't going to waste my time getting abused like that by managers and co-workers for being new. I know that's not an option for poor Iruka, but I know how that sort of crap feels.

First job I ever had, I was still in college, and only worked at the place on weekends so I could focus on my schooling during the week. Since it was weekends and not daily, I was obviously not going to catch on as quickly as another, and definitely not in a few days. The place I worked at was a gas station with a VERY complicated system of ringing items up that involved a code for one group of products or another, plus I had to remember what items were "taxable" and what weren't and that distinction wasn't made clear either.

Most of my co-workers were decent, but a couple of them treated me like I was just a stupid college kid who was only there on the weekends instead of wanting to get a "real" job. I got reamed for not catching on quickly enough, too, even though I'd only been there three days over the course of two weekends and hadn't been shown everything. One gal actually thought I knew how to open the security alarm(I worked mornings) and was "shocked" that I hadn't been shown when my own manager had told me that it was too early for that. Yikes.

Something I did that might help Iruka was I kept a notebook. I couldn't keep half the codes and "taxable" items straight, so I brought a notebook and wrote it all down, adding new things as I learned them, so if I forgot(particularly at lunch when I had a store FULL of customers and absolutely NO help) or was in a hurry, I could quick look instead of having to ask someone or find my manager.

Maybe she can try that to help or something, but those people there shouldn't be treating her like that because you're right, it IS only her 3rd day or so. Her co-workers have probably been doing the job for MONTHS, if not years. They can't expect her to "magically" learn overnight. They were new once, too, but it sounds like they forgot what it was like. *shakes head*

*HUGS* To you guys. Hope things get better for you 'n Iruka!

I know how Iruka feels *hugs*
I hope that things to work out for Iruka and that this stupid Joanna chick gets a good boot up the bum for her bitchy attitude.
Obviously these bosses had failed to realise that, as TurtleNinja had said before, they were new at their jobs too and it does take a while to build up skills.

My first ever real paying job lasted only about four/five weeks or something I can't remember.  But I was told that I had to catch on real quick - which was a little difficult as I had never worked on tills/cashier before then and my maths is crap - even today after working with them a couple of times I am still hopeless.  But I did what I could and at first the boss seemed pretty ok, before he went to hospital for stress.  When he came back he was very harsh and particually on me.  About a few days before I got fired he made the stupidest rule and it's also very illegal too, that no-one was to have a drink whilst on their shift.  We only have a fifteen minute break, then a half an hour lunch break and working in Darwin - even in air-con - it does become very thirsty work.  I got fired after arguing with him and called him 'stubborn' - bad thing to say - and that's an even longer story.

It was the same with my second job.  For the first month and a half it was great, my trainer was gradully (sp?) building up my skills, as I was working at a sports club/bar type thing, with alcohol and pokies and stuff.  I was having a great time and then all of a sudden, I was given a new trainer and the boss told me that I wasn't allowed to work the tills, but I was allowed to pour drinks - meaning I had to get one of the other ladies to draw up the till so I can get any change or whatever.  This was pretty time consuming and I could see that it did bother the girls.  I wound up breaking down at the end as couldn't handle it anymore and I was let go.

If Iruka thinks positive things will look up again, I'm pretty sure of it.

You're a good friend to her, and I hope that things will get better!

And, to offer the sage advice I normally offer people in lj entries....  regarding the temp....

Man, hearing this story makes me scared to even get a job. I'm still going to, but it's gonna be hard and scary for me, especially since I'm visually impaired and don't drive. Oh well, I'll make do I guess.

Four more days left and I'm officially a graduate. Whoo Hoo!

Don't let our experiences scare you BubblyShell, there are very good jobs out there too.  There is a job out there for everyone and all you need to do is just go out there and experience it.  There will be good, bad and down right ugly jobs and it may take a few jobs or so just to finally find that right one.

It took me just over 5 years to finally realise that my career is with Children, not Hospitality.  Now I'm doing relief work for various centres and am a relief carer for special needs school-aged kids on bus runs.  It will be a while yet before I get something down right perminant, but I'm content in what I have now.

You'll find something that is at your ability BubblyShell and at every job you will have you will always learn something new, it goes the same when it comes to the people you will meet in the workplace.  The advice I would give is to be yourself, know who you are and what you can do and build upon and if people have a problem with that, they can get stuffed.

Thanks for the advice, Calypso. I'm definitely gonna be myself and not hide what I'm like. I just hope I can get a good job with good insurance and benefits and that I can get there with some mode of transportation.

Well, I wish more managers would realize there are two sides to every story and not just assume anything.   Mad

Good luck to Iruka - I'm sure she can do it!
