The only movie of his I've seen is Battle Los Angeles and I really liked it. Interesting story, good characters, good camera work, and good pace. Kind of an underrated movie if you ask me.
Having said that, I question Liebesman's familiarity with the TMNT since he is from South Africa and I question his experience since he hasn't directed any movies based on a comic book or something similar. But obviously it's too early to really say anything and you never know. If Liebesman gets the director nod, he may turn out to be a
Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins & The Dark Knight) or
Jon Favreau (Zathura: A Space Adventure & Iron Man). They are one of the first directors that pop into my head when I want to good "comic book" movie. In fact now that I think about it, Liebesman's directing style is similar to Nolan and Favreau, which doesn't feel gimmicky, stale or "popcorn". So Liebesman may be a good thing after all. Guess I'll have to check out his next movie,
Wrath of the Titans. Of course, I should probably watch
Clash of the Titans first.

Speaking of Nolan and Favreau, I really wished one of them would be picked to direct the next TMNT movie. Nolan if you wanted it more serious. Favreau if you wanted it more family oriented. At least it isn't Michael Bay directing who, after his Transformer movies, is the embodiment of gimmicky, stale and "popcorn". But Bay is producing...

And just because I'm on a roll with this stuff,
Zack Snyder (300 & Watchmen),
Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy & Hellboy II) and
Peter Jackson (do I really need to put something here) would be options on my director wish list too. However, I don't think Snyder's and Jackson's style would work for TMNT. But I think del Toro would do a good job. Of course Snyder is probably too busy with the next Superman movie, Man of Steel. No idea what del Toro would think. And Jackson... yeah right.
