FridayUmbra, Drakos, and Boston showed up at my house, and we departed for Secaucus, where we drove around for a while and kept winding up in someone's driveway. We finally found our hotel, dumped our stuff, and headed to Walmart for last minute supplies. We then donned our costumes, picked up our badges, and went into the con proper. We poked around the dealer's room and artist's alley. While Umbra and Boston attempted to find the train station and pick up Chocobo, Drakos and I wandered. I saw some TMNT shirts, and some of the old action figures in the dealer's room, but they were mainly of the Turtles-in-random-costumes variety, which doesn't interest me. Chocobo came out of NOWHERE (oh my god where is her off switch) and we agreed that food should happen.
We went in multiple directions and eventually wound up at Chile's, still mostly in costume. Food was consumed. We then went back to the hotel where, despite the best intentions to the contrary, several of us fell asleep. Which apparently caused Umbra to cry. Sorry Umbra. I know I was awake at midnight to change sleeping locations, but that's about all I remember until
SaturdayWe woke up at seven and attempted to reach a reasonable degree of organization before Newark joined us at eight. We then finished writing our skit (okay, forget the organized part) and recorded the dialogue. We got our costumes on and went to some other hotel to finish registering for the masquerade.
I took Newark to get her con badge, and while waiting I saw this girl who looked awfully familiar... it was a friend I hadn't seen in YEARS. So that was cool.
We walked around a bit and then went to the masquerade rehearsal. It was reasonably successful, considering we'd had, what, NO PRACTICE. Sigh.
Then I actually got to go to some panels. Wayland, Swaile, voice acting stuff, good times. I was summoned back to the room for some quick rehearsal. Then I ate a giant sandwich very quickly. And then it was masquerade time!
The order was randomly generated, and we found out we were going first. ...crud? Well, there was some confusion over our introduction, but it went off okay. (It wasn't on youtube last night; I'll look again later.) They wouldn't let us back into the green room, so we stood in the back of the auditorium. That place was FULL. We enjoyed the skits and winning AMVs, and slowly worked our way forward (and finally into seats). A very deserving Chrono Trigger skit won best in show. I caught up with Other Lucca after, and she sent me the lyrics to their rap, which was very cool. Boston won a prize for making a simple costume very well, and Umbra and Drakos co-won a prize for making a ridiculous costume - well, ridiculously. So after everything was over we went up to con ops to get our certificates.
We returned to the hotel room, de-costumed ourselves, and went in search of dessert. I had to go to about half a dozen places just to get a milkshake, but I did get a free brownie at Starbucks. I went with Chocobo to look for DDR, but we didn't find any. We went back to the hotel, sent Newark home, and pretty much fell asleep.
SundayWe got up at seven again (WHY WHY WHY) and packed Chocobo, Umbra, and Drakos off to the train station. Which left me and Boston (aka the SANE people) to our own devices. We looked at some AMVs and then hit the dealer's room again. I decided I needed a fan with the character for 'wisdom' on it. (Where did I think I was going to put it?) We also went to the art auction, where I won a bid for Flying Cat Helps Human Hang Stars, but Boston got sniped for Link Flees From Chickens. We ran off to the skit-making panel, where we learned that we are indeed made of fail. But we talked to the guy after, and he knew our Weakest Link skit, and was impressed that it was our first. Boston had to go home then, and things were closing, so I loitered in the hotel lobby reading manga and watching the Red Sox game until my parents came.
