TMNT Live Action Movie Coming in 2012

Be still my action-figure-loving heart: Could there possibly be another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie in the works? Judging from the frenzy over the new TMNT toys at New York Comic Con, I'm not the only one excited to see the turtles the way they were meant to be seen. Click through for more details.

The TMNT CG cartoon movie came out in 2007 and apparently sales were good. So good that the producers released this statement: "Following the success of the ‘TMNT’ theatrical release in 2007, Mirage licensing and Imagi studios have begun work on a new live-action TMNT film for 2010. It’s the turtles like you’ve never seen them before! Shellalicious!” Fingers crossed they stick to the man-in-a-turtle-suit idea and don't go all CG Weta crazy. Who needs Beowulf-looking Turtles?

I just did!  That's great news about a new live-action film.  I loved the old ones from back in the day.

See, I just don't know if a movie studio would be interested in 100% live action-puppeteering movies anymore (although the "Hellboy" movies just might start the bandwagon again!). That's not to say I wouldn't love to see another TMNT live action movie again but CGI is more affordable and, dare say, easier for the studios to make these days.

I'm all up for more great animation but that can get tiring and stale.

Well, hopefully we'll find out soon if this will come pass!

I know what you're saying ,Mindychan, however, looking at this from a marketing standpoint, it might be the best way.  The last movie, although well done, lost a lot of the TMNT audience due to it NOT being "Live-Action".  I don't know if anyone knew about this but there was a petition going around trying to change the CGI movie to live-action with the threat that anyone who signed would not go to see it (yes, I did see this and was asked to sign and I refused).  So unofficially, it was boycotted and SABATOGED by TMNT FANS IN THEIR 20'S! 

It kinda makes me sad that this happened but when you have fans speaking out and making unofficial boycots, you almost have to listen to them.  Kids really don't care if it's live-action or if it's CGI.  Sadly, the movie industry has one goal in mind and that's to make money.  If people demand a live-action TMNT movie, then fans are going to get a live-action TMNT movie.

Oh no, that's not how it works... as much as movie people want to make money, there are many things that stands in their way.  Like how much money is spent on making and keeping those costumes going the full time.  Sadly it's cheaper to do CGI and while yes there were people out there against it being a CGI movie, the people in charge are still saying "it made money, that's what we wanted".

The person in charge of TMNT, Peter Laird is looking at a movie half live and half CGI... the Turtles will not be costumes like the fans want.  This is his choice, and any other up there at the top.  Though fans may protest it, it's what we're being offered and fans are learning to except what is handed to them.  I mean how could we not, waiting from 1993 till 2007 without having the TMNT on the big screen?  Would anyone else out there really want that big of a gap between movies again?  I personally would be excited if they release the original movies to the big screen (like Disney does with their movies) for a limited time. 

I dout as long as Peter is enjoying the CGI Turtles, and trying to save money on putting the Turtles on the big screen, we will not see a fully live action movie.  Hopefully sometime in the future we can get one back.  Though the fans want it, it's not in the near future.

I'll be okay with however the next movie is done.  I liked the movies with the Turtles in costume, too, but just seeing them back on the big screen in 2007 was great.

I've always loved the old live-action turtles. I would think that with today's technology, they could do an Incredible job with the intricate details and everything...

I love the costumes but heck I'll take CGI as long as they keep the story good and everyone in character!

Actually I liked the CGI movie over the live action ones.  You can do more action wise with CGI and it looks more realistic then the turtle in a suit movies.  The live action movie just had too many glaring errors in it for me.  Last I heard they were planning a mixture of live action and CGI.  The turtles bing CGI and the other actors being live action.

I mean, as it is, I can't even find the new episodes on my T.V.! I hafta catch them on YouTube, & because of that, I'm way behind because I keep forgetting to hunt down the episodes. I think I've only seen, like, five or six of the Back To The Sewers season!

So, yeah, I'm all for TMNT on the big screen!!!!!!!!

Heres the thing, I have respect for CGI, I've gone to school for it and I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into it.  However mixing CGI and live action never looks right, watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit with 2-D animation drawings with live action works better than CGI in live action (outside of effects that can't be pulled off with real people in the case of movies like Iron Man, Spider-Man etc.  If there is going to be CGI it should be entirely CGI just like the last film.  Transformers looked terrible, the Hulk looked terrible not that the CGI was bad (because it was top notch) but it doesn't mix with live action characters at all.  If you're going to do a live action film at all do it with costumes again....yeah yeah I know, people say it just won't cut it because CGI is the standard these days.... well with advancement in Computers over the last 15 years there has also been a ridiculous amount of advancement in animatronics... you'd be surprised at how much stuff in Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth were animatronic and practical makeup effects.  Animatronic puppeteering and makeup come off as much more realistic because they're in the same true environment as everything else.   I see no problem doing CGI effects here and there when needed to pull of an effect, but aside from that, bring back some realism, the Turtles in the first movie were more believable.

I have to admit.  I'm not crazy about a CGI Turtles vs. human situation.
I would very much like to see Jim Henson's Creature Shop nail the suits again...even if they are a bit hard to keep up.
Hell - I'll even wear the damn suits for 16 hours, just to see it actually happen.
I just read a review for Where The Wild Things Are...and apparently they CG'd the facial expressions on the monsters but the suits were totally Jim Henson candy.

What if that was the case? Anyone wanna see that?

I've only seen the trailers for WTWTA, but I was excited to see it being done with costumes and puppets, and the look of it makes me very hopeful about the effects in the upcoming Turtle movie.

Have you heard about the new turtles movies? It is going to be awsome because it is going to be based on the 1984 turtles. This movie will be different because it will not only show violence but it  will also answer questions about the turtles) Like how the turtles got their weapons. It weill also answer why Leonardo is the leader and tell why the turtles wear different colors. Plus it will answer the question of where shredder got his ninja uniform. & The big question it will answer is where splinter's master Hamato Yoshi  found him and many more aswers will be revealed. What do you think about the movies?

Where did you hear all of this stuff?  We heard it's going back to the origins, but not any details on what we learn.  It's just another beginning story from what I've heard.

And now that Nick has it, I doubt it'll be as dark as the original Mirage comics... it's going to take a new path.

That is a very good point about it prolly not going to be as dark as it could have been. Nick can do some good shows and I'm still hopeful that they do it justice. Remember though that in the press release, they are hoping to target boys in the 10 to 11 ages (Or somewhere around there). My hope is that it at least does not go lighter then the 4kids serious.
