ok seeing as how the turtles are constantly fighting and risk life and limb on a daily basis I was wondering how the hell they can live their lives the way they do and not have any access to medical facilites or medical care. It'snot like they can go to the emergency room if one of them gets seriously injured. I know they all must know some practicle first aid stuff to treat minor scrapes and cuts and broken bones, but what if they ever get hurt enough where they need serious medical attention.
Like they get shot and it's not possible to just simply remove it, or they need surgery for some thing? I just find it astonishing that given the life style the turtles lead they actually have no real way of getting medical attention if they need it. I mean what do they do? It's not like they can get the utroms to come to them and fix them up everytime they get seriously hurt.
And what if something not related to injury happend to them, like they get seriously sick with an illness people normally need to be hospitalised for like dysentary or apendicitus or viral pnemonia (have no idea how to spell this). Hpw do you think they would handle stuff like this? What would they do It's bound to come up if it hasn't already before?

For the most part I believe Don has studied the medical field. Though when he's down Splinter and April usually takes care of them. With Don's labs and books, they can find a lot of answers to how to do things needed. In the 4Kids series also have LeatherHead to help.
Not everyone in the real world has medical so a lot of people go everyday with problems that are not taken care of because they just can't get the help. So what the Turtles are going through isn't so uncommon. Just because there's Hospitals doesn't mean everyone can just go in and get taken care of. Sadly the world revolves around money, and if ya don't have it you're in the same spot that the Turtles are in. Though they got it a bit better having someone who studies that stuff living right with them with a good lab.

It's a life on the edge. They try to avoid getting sick or injured, and when one of those things inevitably happens, they just do the best they can. If the illness or injury was more severe than their combined medical expertise could handle, then it would be a choice between revealing themselves to medical professionals, or risking death.
All the rest is left to fanfic; go and read it.

you know I have no idea what happens when the turtles get seriously hurt or sick. It's just another thing about the isolation of their exsistance that poses as another fall ball back. And a serious one at that. I'm suprised this has not been played up more or addressed in show. They are warriors and probably sustain injury to varying degrees all the time. I know some of you have mentioned some Don or Splinter acted as sort of doctor to the turtles but really how much of can one do with out real training in medical procedures or need like heavy surgery? People who have no life insurance might be in the same boat as the turtles but if something truley life threatening happens to these people they can at least go to a hospital to get stabalized. The turtles really don't have this option.
I guess there only recourse if one of them gets a life threatening injury or affliction is they will have to brave a trip to the surface and risk being exposed of captured by revealing them selves to a doctor to help them. I think in Bad Day when Splinter appeared to have a heart attack Leo stated they needed to get him to a doctor and they where trying to get out of the lair so they can do that. It looked like they had no other plan or means to treat Splinter so I think it's safe to guess they don't have any. What to say if they got to a doctor that the doctor would run in fear or try to shoot them as a threat?
This boggles me has this medical issue ever been addressed before on what they do in situations like this in the mirage comics? And I mean the old comics before the justice league founded their own hospital.

It's ironic. That's been on my mind and puzzling me alot. Reading all those posts totally clears things up. I knew that they trust DOnnie when things get out of hand or they trust Splinter or April. In my opinion, I'm starting to think that they look to April as a mom. I'm hoping to start another fanfiction.

I've always thought of Leatherhead as acting as the turtles doctor since he has worked with the utroms and probably has better understanding of the anatomy of an indivdal that has been mutated from the utroms mutatgent, and probably has access and knowledge of sugical proceedures that the utoms have develped.

Well, going by what I've observed in comics, t.v., movies, and role playing manuals.....Don has medical knowledge, and Master Splinter has a great deal of knowledge of herbs and natural medicine. I think their lifestyle situation hasn't left them much except to learn how to take care of themselves for the most part. Since they do have humans in their lives they probably have access to some drugs or antibiotics too. And....there's always mail order...or used to be. Leatherhead, and even the Utroms themselves, could be a possibility too, as Sage mentioned, because those factors are in some of the comics. One story from the comics illustrates this medical help question and what they do in Vol. 2, #12 of Tales of the TMNT. Raph has been shot and Shadow has to remove the bullet. So, no question in my mind. They have had to learn how to take care of their ailments. Something else comes to mind....I also think that because they are mutants, it wouldn't be too surprising if they had faster recuperative times......or maybe not get sick for as long as average. And just the fact that they are turtles......look how long that species has managed to survive. I'm impressed.

Am I the only one to wonder what state their teeth must be in?? I'm brutally realistic in my mind and can imagine quite a few missing and they'd probably have a strong odor of musty underground at best... god knows at worst! But for reals: A mixture of basic first aid, whatever medical knowledge Don knows, folk medicine with a high dose of preventative measures should do the trick.

Well..., this is my view on it, the tmnt universe is like the movie Last Action Hero, every injury is just flesh wound.

oH come on, MIlly! Give me a break. (sorry.; jerky people on guildwars are giving me a hard time). If Donnie was feeling ill, sick or hurt; I'd totally spoil him. Give him lots of comic books to read or watch a good SCI FI movie or maybe a hockey game of course.... if no one was watching.. i'd make Don wear a Capitals' hat, and Capitals' fan scarf *ROTFL* LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! *cackles*

I've always wondered about this, too (and the teeth thing that sockysocks mentioned!). They're probably all very educated in basic first aid. It helps that they have April and Casey to go topside and grab other supplies. Do they even have a bathroom in their lair? I think they do? So I guess they could brush their teeth..?

Yes, the NT implies a bathroom in the first lair, and actually shows a bathroom in the second lair. Oddly, this bathroom appears to have laundry machines but no toilet (and it's not a censor issue, because there's a toilet in the bathroom where Don bandages Mike's ankle).

I thought so - what a great memory you have Did they ever show one in the old toon? I remember the livingroom, kitchen, and some of the bedrooms. They probably censored the old toon from the EVIL TOILETZ.
