Hey everyone,
I realize that Turtle Con isn't a go, we just couldn't get the money up or the support needed. Though I was wondering if we should do a TMNT fan party.
This will take off only if we get 20 or more people saying they'll go in the poll. Yes that is a high count, but that will make it worth going for those of us who will be traveling.
Things we can do with the party - Make it a weekend event - Hold it in an area where we can go out and do things as a group - Everyone bring some sort of food or pitch in to order food - Have games
I don't think we should rent any space for it, just do it as a meet up. Though we should not do this on a convention weekend, cause we want it to be more a chance for the group to hang out, get to know each other better and just relax... schedules does not make anyone relaxed.
We could have the gathering at a cheap motel like the Red Roof Inn, so no one has to spend $100 or more a night.
I'm thinking this would be done around the time we were originally planning Turtle Con 2009, so that would be August 2009.
What do you think?
Please give Feed back.
Now is the time to start planning.

Thanks
Hopefully we can do this. It would be fun to meet up with a lot of fans, esp just for us fans to hang out.
Events are fun, but a lot of toll on our pocket books and energy.

I agree that this is a good idea, cause even though we can't do Turtle Con, thanks to events beyond our control, I would still love to do a get together. Now where would this meet up take place? Are we thinking about somewhere in NJ but close enough to NY so that way we can go into town if we want? If we need any ideas, one night I say we must definitely do a movie marathon

Yeah I was thinking near New York I do know of a Red Roof in, in the NJ area. I just think it'd be best if we do the cheap type hotel so that more people can do this. A night movies and shows would be great!

It's something I have always wanted to do (Movie marathon) and it would be even better with a group of friends! Best part too, if the hotel doesn't cost too much, then I can try to bring the whole family, depending on what hubby is doing at the time that is.

Places to visit with the group| Rays Pizza | Where Roy's Pizza in TMNT 2 was filmed | | 11th and Bleaker | The location where the Second Time Around Shop should of been in TMNT 1 | | Belvedere Castle and Turtle Pond | 4Kids starting in Season 4 has the lair located near here | | Bethesda Water Fountain | Used in "Turtle Tunes" for "I love to skateboard around the Fountain | | Central Park carousel | Used in "Turtle Tunes" for "I love to ride the Carousel" | | Central Park Zoo | Turtles have been to in both the original series and the Next Mutation (not the filming location though, just was suppose to be here.) | | Time Square Toys R Us | Worth visiting for everyone, and has held some TMNT events |
What other locations would people like to visit in NYC? (Only if it's a public location we will not be invading in on any ones work space or home areas.)

My psychic powers are tingling... when you posted this I was having a nap and I dreamed we were all having a meet-up in some cabins somewhere. The freezer was full of ice cream and somebody was communing with squirrels. Which is to say... yeah. A meet-up would be super awesome.

Okay, I see this as two different questions:
Should there be a TMNT Fan Party? Yes.
Could I make it? No.
Sadly, I won't only not have the funds to go but I also won't have the possibility of getting off. It'll already be like pulling teeth to get off for my mother's birthday.

It would be awesome to have ya with us bro! I'm hoping that more people jump in for this idea. Once we do have 20 votes I will start looking into hotels and such for the area. I am thinking about a Red Roof in that is really close to the city. Though I think it may be good to surf around and see what everyone else thinks

It would be sweet to get a lot of us there. There's still a lot of time to plan it out and pick our attack location of where we'll want to stay. It's the next best thing to a turtle con, cause it's a chance for the fans to at least get together. I'm already starting to get excited about this. Not often we plan just a simple meet up for us all. Sorry you wouldn't be able to make it Kaz

I did mention on the first page Ray's Pizza. If I can find out any other real locations I'll add it to the list, as long as it's not invading a non-public area. So if you know any other places where scenes from the movie filmed in NYC, please let us know.
I think 10 should be enough to start getting this planning off the ground. I'm going to look into cheap hotels in the area, I already know where we could go park for going into NYC.
Money people should know about for the city:
* $7 for bus tickets, it's like $6.30 or something like that for a round trip in and out of the city, though I say $7 in case of the prices going up. * $8 for a all day Subway pass to get around the city. It's $7.50 for the subway though $8 just like with the other is just keeping it safe. * $5 for a slice of pizza and a drink from Ray's Pizza. I know it's less than this, I just paid for 6 people to eat there last night for only $22, but having a 5 set aside, will help.
At this point I can't think of other required money to have for this... though if you can bring spending money it is something recommended the city has a lot of cool stuff to enjoy.

That's tough dates for me for two reasons. One, I'd probably be next to broke after SDCC, and two, I probably couldn't get the time off because I'm using my first week of vacation for SDCC and my second week is being used for my birthday at the end of August. My work would look at me and go, "HA! Yeah right!" So, while I'd love to go, I don't see it happening.

I say definitely have a fan party. I would love to go (esp. back to NYC!) but unfortunately I got laid off from my job and am living off measly unemployment. So I don't have the funds for any major trips. Good luck to you though and I hope it pulls off ok.

Well as the dates at the top says we're looking at August.
It's the same dates that was originally picked for the Turtle Con 2009 topic, but fell through since never got the funding needed to do the convention.... they're not cheap...

At this point, I believe this idea is dead in the water, anyway. There's no time to organize hotels, vacations schedules, and travel options - not for August.
Maybe next year...

I'd like to have it as another event not connected to a convention for a few reasons, one is it'd be two weekends in a roll a lot of people work and wouldn't be able to take that time off. Not just that, but the money to stay that long in the area would not be that good on anyone either. I was thinking of a weekend where it would just be a fan meet up, without the stress of a convention.
A good example is myself: When I go to a convention I don't really go there to hang out with people, I go there for the events first. Hanging out with friends is a perk that comes with conventions. Though I make sure to get to each panel I'm there for and autograph line, it's not something where I just walk around hanging out with people. Conventions cost to get into, I get my money's worth out of them.
This party weekend is suppose to be about being with our friends, not the extra charges that come with the conventions. Basically we all choose a hotel, we pay for our own travel and rooms and the rest of our money is for food, doing other things... people can afford to do more when it's not during convention times.
