Which video codec should videos be in?

In another topic, the issue of being able to playback the videos I create has come up. I have a quick guide (http://www.tmnt-l.com/index.php?topic=376) on how to view the videos I create. But I think it's time to do a formal poll so that everyone should be able to view videos anyone creates and posts up on TMNT-L Forums.

I only put two options here because they are the only ones I think that are worth using. I don't like Quicktime (.mov) because it's a pain to encode with. I don't like Windows Media Video (.wmv) because it's not widely cross-platform compatible. Here are a couple of good reads that tell you about the differences of the codecs out there:

In general, MPEG1 is the best in compatibilty but files get huge if you want good quality. And XviD (DviX compatible) is probably the most popular distribution codec in terms of non-official created videos, such as fan made music videos.

I vote the MPeg because i think that's the one that's compatible with Windows Media player. Makes things easier for us that don't have XviD.
