Anyone else here have aweful skin allergies? I can't use scented skin creams on the backs of my hands because of how badly it reacts..bright red, blotchy, skin eventually splits around the knuckles and bleeds real nicely.

I've apparently had that problem ever since I was a baby, but it got much worse after going to massage school while working in a resteraunt. I think I just have a chemical sensetivity because of my problems with fragrances, overly proccessed food and most medications I've ever taken.

Since it's so dry and cold here in winter, I have no choice but to use moisturizer...gotta love Udderly Smooth and Badger Balm...only stuff that won't make me bleed and helps keep the winter chappedness from bringing my hands to that same point.

So....! Anyone else deal with that, too? *G*

Mess with the best, get bapped like the rest!

Yep, I can't use moisturizers with Vitamin E in them on my face. I end up with red splotchy goodness. It's fine anywhere else, though.

I also get wicked hive/blotches on my face if I'm out in the cold/wind too long...and putting Lanacaine on an already overinflated blackfly bite can produce the effect of having twin kneecaps. (the bite was just above my knee)

I dunno if it counts as a skin allergy, but I can't put any sort of sunscreen on my face. Doesn't matter the brand, or strength, or anything. I've even tried the new stuff out that's supposed to be for the face, no dice.

Weird thing is, I never break out or show any sort of irritation. No redness, no hives, no blisters, nothing.

But whenever I put the sunscreen anywhere above my neck, it feels like someone lit a gas torch and stuck it to my face, it burns so bad. It's worse when I've been in the pool, but I can't put it on, period.

No idea why this happens. Makes going to the beach/pool on a regular basis kinda iffy, and I have to wear a hat or cover up my face with a bandana when I do farm work in the summer.

Anyone know what this is? I've had it ever since I was a teenager, but prior to that, I could put sunscreen on my face like nothing. Weirdness.

Ooouch...I really think it could be related to the horomonal changes in your body...the pores in your face mebbe getting bigger, or the skin there getting more sensetive.

I have the same problem with the backs of my hands. They'd chap in the winter, but not too badly. It wasn't until I first started working at Chick-fil-a that everything exploded. For six months of my first year (I've been there 3 1/2), I was a dishwasher. The chemicals in that dish soap and sanitizer ate the skin of my hands like no tomorrow. My skin would itch, and flare, but nothing too bad. It wasn't until the winter months, and after I was promoted to other parts of the kitchen, that it started to turn very serious. By that time my hands were so badly cracked, bleeding, and just plain raw that putting cold lotion on them was like sticking them into a fire. I was in agony so much I would cry.

I finally saw a dermatologist, and he first gave me pills to take. After about a week when they were gone, my hands flared up again. I went back, and that time he gave a prescription for a Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream. This time that helped, and my hands did not flare back up again. I cannot use scented lotions or such, but since then I have found I can keep the condition at bay with Extra Strength Gold Bond Body Lotion. I swear by the stuff. It's a miracle worker. I apply some at night before bed and in the morning before work, and massage it into my hands. I also have been wearing cotton gloves to protect my hands, that I wear sanitation gloves over, from the heat lamps, which my skin is also sensitive to; heat in general. Oh, I have been banned since from washing dishes there; doctor's orders.

I have no idea. I have yet to find anyone else with the exact same problem. Either they have problems with regular sunscreen on their face, but can use the Faces stuff, or they don't have problems at all. I've always had sensitive skin thanks to my mother's side, but this problem's really perplexed me. I've got no idea what causes it or if I'm pretty much stuck or if there's anything I can do.

It's not too big of a deal. I know of it, and when we do go to the pool or anything, we spend our breaks in the shade for as long as we're there, and I cover myself when I'm mowing lawn or something, so I can survive if nothing can be done. It's just weird.

Thank the gods for Noxema. Does that ever make sunburn feel nice, especially when it's on the face.

I have no problems with lotions(though if they're overly scented, I tend to itch, so I stop), but I've never tried them on my face or anything. Same for massage oils. Never tried them anywhere on my face, but elsewhere, nothing really happens. Though the oils, lol, I tend to wash those off in the shower right afterwards anyways, so they don't stick around like the lotions do.

It's just the sunscreen. Either it's something in my skin chemistry, or the lotion, that just doesn't mix.

I can't use eye shadow. Or at least not Cover Girl eye shadow.

Night of my senior prom, I used some CG for the first time.... few hours later, my eyes were itching like crazy and I was getting little bumps on my eyelids. Never used that type of eyeshadow again and have been fine ever since.

I'm also allergic to Cheer detergent. Broke out once when mom first started using it. Never used it since =p

Ye Mystic One - Do you by any chance remember if the doc diagnosed you with anything in particular? The Donnie part of me likes looking up that kinda stuff and figuring out actual causes and whatnot. *G* It does sound like the exact same thing I'm dealing with...you're the only other one I've heard with a problem so close to mine!

Eclipse - NOooooo fun at all! Do you have a livejournal? I may have some communities that might be able to help you out...their "natural living" ones, which some folks find pretty stupid, but they're good for alternatives to unsavory stuff most otherwise think are unavoidable. If not, I can just hunt down the things I have in mind and post links here.

TN - Could easly just be something in the sun tan stuff you're sensetive to. I can usually use scented lotion on other parts of my body in moderation, but never on the backs of my hands. So our bodies can just be such weird things sometimes. *G*

PG - Gyah! What a way to find out what not to wear..ouch. o o

Earrings, and rats make me get itchy and rashy... yes, rats. I can hold them in my hands, but if they climb on my arms, ack.
I can only wear earrings that are hypoallergenic.

MQ: He told me I had underlying Eczema. The chemicals in those cleaning supplies basically created a hotbed for such a reaction. I even scratched in my sleep, tearing the skin to shreds with my nails which made wherever became a victim of bleed, and had to wear gloves to bed for a while.

I have to be careful as well in direct heat or sun, and apply sunscreen when outside for long periods of time, especially in the summer. I burn very easily. My body in general just doesn't do well in heat at all. I nearly became sick one year with sun stroke while walking around at a fair, and it was October. Surprised Considering where I work... Yeah, not good. So I take breaks as often as I can in other parts of the kitchen, and get drinks/water.

Aig: Man, I hate it when earrings start climbing all over you. They're so pokey! *grins and ducks*

Really, though, rats do the same thing to me...hands're ok, but their lil' claws give me all sortsa pretty welts when the climb up on my arms/shoulder/chest. Still cute lil' buggers. *G*

O Mystical One: Eczema!! That makes perfect sense, actually...my youngest sister grew up having to deal with some of that on her arms and legs, as well as psoriasis (or however you spell it), I shall go play nerd on the web, now.

Huh...I'm the exact opposite...my body does great in the heat, far far better than the cold. Though lately heat's been getting harder to handle. But yeah, I can see how that can be a problem in a kitchen...yikes!
