I tend to call it soda, or by its name, like root beer, Coke, Fanta orange, ginger ale, etc. I used to call it seltzer, in NY, but that's because I meant seltzer. I didn't drink sodas, then. I still don't much, but my kids love it. I like the term bevvies.

Soda definitely, unless I'm calling it by whatever brand it is.

Growing up... I called it what most other Southern Hoosiers called it... Coke! Then after knowing better, I went back and forth between "carbonated drinks", "soft drinks", or "soda-pop". But that all doesn't matter to me, cause I never really liked to drink the stuff. *hugs her lo-cal, lo-sugar bottle of water*

*laughs* I wondered when this gag would make its way onto the board. Earl and I both call it "pop", occasionally "soda pop", though he said that when he lived in the Carolinas, they called it "sodie" there. And I agree with Mo...lol, you've got too much time on your hands. I've also known people around here to call it Coke, too. I think I've been guilty of doing that in fast food places, ordering a Coke if I don't catch myself and just order a drink 'cause the restaurants here usually don't dispense it for you anymore. Sit-down places do, but the fast food joints all just ring you up as whatever size drink you want, give you the cup, and you do it yourself. Which is actually nice for me. I can get a drink without the evil ice watering it down.

Once upon a time, it was pop. That was when I lived in Ohio. But now? I've been calling it soda because I've been living on the CA west coast long enough to have picked up the local lingo on certain things.... *shakes up a can and puts it back in Raph's cola stash for tonight* There! "Pop" Roulette! (That's for the bap and thppt in another thread. You realize, I can find other ways of getting you back instead of just signing you up for certain fan clubs.....)

The crap?! I've lived in SC for eight years and lived in NC for 3 before that and I've NEVER heard it called "sodie". Weeeeird. lol, now I'm gonna have to go ask him just where in the Carolinas he lived that they called it "sodie". He also says that where he lived, it was also "can-a-pepsi" no matter what the cola actually was. I've heard it called "can of coke" around here, usually pop, but "can-a-pepsi" is new to me. Heh. *goes to ask* He said that where he heard "sodie" was a placed called Chauwon Beach. He lived there when he was in elementary school, so he's not completely certain of the spelling, but that's what he said. He lived there back in the 80s and he said people there aparently called it "sodie". Never heard anyone here in MN call it that. Usually it's "pop" or "Coke". Only time I ever heard of "sodie" was on one episode of the Simpsons. Strange indeed.
