Hey everyone,
I wanted to share some of the stuff going on at my house. We have four dogs right now, Toby and Sassy, our two oldest dogs. Toby is known by some of the fans as the Cheese God as that's been his nick name since he was a puppy. He even was at the Turtle Con 2000 party, so he's known real well. Sassy is more known as my Grandma's dog, though since she's passed away she's been with us. The other two dogs are Tonto and Frodo, half brothers. Native American Indian Dogs, big dogs like wolves. Very pretty dogs.
Tonto is the older of the two brothers, born on December 5th, 2002. He was brought into the family as a gift to my mother, and spent his early years with her. Meanwhile Miki, my sister got Frodo, who was born to a different mother on December 25th. While my Grandma was going through her hardest time with the cancer and we were working at moving, Tonto went to stay with Miki and his brother. Where he lived from 2003 to 2009. The two boys grew up together. Big dogs, who loved playing and plenty of attention.
In 2009 Miki lost her place and a lot of her stuff came to our house, including Tonto and Frodo where we made them a big dog pen outside which attached to the garage, where the two dogs have their own dog houses (Frodo is top bunk, Tonto who didn't like heading up steps got the bottom bunk). The dog houses get heat in the winter with lights, and during the summer it's a well shaded area for the two boys to lay down. They're fed through their dog house as well, as we have a door into it from the Garage where we can see the top and bottom bunk. Their food and water is handled through here, making it easy to reach both of them at once. Fed a nice meal in the morning and spoiled with treats in the evening.
Both dogs are very dear to my mom and sister, as they're the ones who take care of them. On May 16th, I helped my mom with taking Tonto and Frodo to the vet for their appointments. Because they're so big, only one goes at a time, while the other one stays home. When Tonto was at the vet, he started to limp, I thought it was from the strange harness we had for him... though the vet pointed out a lump on his leg. They checked it, and gave him some pain meds saying for him to come back in a few weeks.
My mom and I both thought that Tonto broke his front left leg at the vet that day. As it didn't get better during the time he wasn't at the vet. The car he fits in, broke down during part of this time and went into the shop... so we had to cancel his vet appointment and was not able to get him in again until last Monday. We went in, excepting him to have a broken leg, with that being the worse of it.
Though instead we learned that Tonto has cancer. He's got Ostcosarcoma, which is a bone cancer really deadly to dogs. The x-ray shows that it's breaking his leg, and that it's very bad. He's got a bump on his back right leg as well. So he's bad off... we were told we'll be lucky if we have him another few weeks.
Tonto still seems to be doing ok at home... though we're dreading the day that we loose him. He's really friendly.
