Because I don't think I've mentioned any of this here yet. Last week, I accepted an offer for a new job! I will be moving to Wisconsin to work as a software tester. I start in February. Over the weekend there was a freak snowstorm that, among other things, knocked out power to my office for several days. We were open anyway because we are a tech company and have back-up generators. However, there was no heat and if you wanted to go to the bathroom you had to bring a flashlight. On Friday I brought in my official letter of resignation, which turned out to be excellent timing, because around midmorning people started getting laid off left and right and I was one of the casualties. I resigned before they could fire me and the upshot is that I get an extra three weeks of between-jobs vacation. Not bad! Somewhere during this break I will be travelling to go apartment-hunting, and also I am going to Israel for ten days over New Year's. Because why not. All of this will be quite the adventure and I am looking forward to it. Onwards and upwards!

Well! That is fortuitous! Congratulations on getting another job before you got laid off. And have a good trip to Israel, that should be fascinating.

Thanks! Today I signed employment forms, e-mailed some realtors, and made the most of my free time. No looking back!

Hmm... Seems Former Employer may be considering hiring me back on a short-term basis, to teach my remaining co-workers all the things that I knew and they didn't. Maybe Former Employer should have thought of this before firing me without notice.

Oh, gotta love it when former employers suddenly think "Oh bugger, we've just fired everyone who actually knows how to run things". Had something similar happen to me, a while back. Would you consider anything Former Employer has to put forth, or is that pretty much a closed chapter in your life book now? Whoa, that's deep....

Congrats, Ami. I'm glad that this came up in your life before something bad had to happen. Good for you and best of luck in your new job. Have fun in Israel, too.

Oh, gotta love it when former employers suddenly think "Oh bugger, we've just fired everyone who actually knows how to run things". I heard that the following exchange occurred: Company: Crud, we're in the middle of an implementation and we fired Implementation Guy. Company: Implementation Guy, will you come back? Implementation Guy: Nope. Company: ... Crud. Would you consider anything Former Employer has to put forth, or is that pretty much a closed chapter in your life book now? My brother (who also works at this place, if I never mentioned that, and still has his job) is considering a vague offer to trade in his planned vacation time for some amount of extra money. He has suggested to Manager that this money might be better spent hiring me back on a short-term basis to do some transitional things. At this point, I think I would agree to some half-days to organize documentation and train my remaining co-workers on various processes. But no more than that. I'm enjoying my free time too much. And thanks, Bubbly!

You gotta wonder what goes on in the heads of of the people that run companies sometimes. You'd think someone would have realized that something was on the go and that firing the person working on it might not be such a smart idea.

Apparently there was a call with the People Being Implemented today, and said client astutely discovered that we now have no programmers or analysts. Score one for the goat lady!

I don't think I've posted the Israel pictures yet, so here they are. Wisconsin is extremely cold but the people are very nice! I think I'm going to like it here, if I don't freeze to death first.

Great pics, so far! Having a few issues with photobucket stopping, but otherwise, cool!
Must have been amazing to be in a place that's been around for so long.

Kewl pics Ami! I'm very envious of you!
One day I'd like to visit Jerusalem. I'm not a religious person but like Aig said the history of the place is quite a draw. Must be a unique and amazing experience to stand in a place that has existed for at least 2000 years.

Yeah, I'd love to visit Rome someday and see the historical sites and stuff. That would be cool. I'm not religious either, but I think going to Jerusalem just for the sights would be awesome.
