The Foot  Dr. Baxter Stockman  The Foot

For the Month of September 2005 we have Dr. Baxter Stockman as our Villain of the Month.   One of the reasons he was choosen for this month is since we do have the voice actor for the 4kids series as one of our Honored TMNT Guest, so which better villain could there be for this Month?

History of Baxter Stockman:

Baxter Stockman first appeared in Issue 2, Mirage Volume #1.  He created the mousers with April O'Neil to help the city with the rat problem.  Though he had bigger plans and made enough Mousers to just about take over the city.  Once April learns of Baxter's plan, he decides to kill her which is when the Turtles find and save April from the Mousers.  They than go back to face the Evil Dr. Stockman.

Baxter Stockman in the Original series: Baxter Stockman was a young man trying to make a living with his new rat catcher, that he called the Mouser.  Though no company would support his idea... till Shredder spy bot caught notice of this new invention and he brings Baxter in to make many mousers for him.  From that day on, Baxter was hired by the Shredder as Shredder's lacky (esp when Bebop and Rocksteady was living with Krang).   Later in that series, Baxter is changed to a Fly and wants revenge on the Shredder and Krang, and still hates the Turtles.  He became one of the reappearing bad guys in the original series.

Baxter Stockman in Mirage Volume #2:  Baxter Stockman lived through his first meet up with the TMNT in Mirage Volume 1, though he did not forget.  He spent his time building up a Robot body, which he inplants his brain into.  Than uses the Robot Body to seek down April and the Turtles for his revenge.

Baxter Stockman 4Kids Series: Baxter Stockman has made his mousers, tried to kill April and attack the city... the Turtles show up and destroy all of the mousers.... sounds like Mirage Volume 1, right?  This is where things change... we learn Baxter is already working for the Shredder and through out the series he plays a main villain out to destroy the Turtles and soon enough get his revenge on Shredder as well.  This Baxter also goes through changes, from losing an eye, to being turned into different robot forums.   Right now Baxter is working with a Government company that is after the Turtles, and Shredder is out of the picture.

Baxter Stockman in Dreamwave Comics:  In this comic it follows the first five shows of 4Kids.  Though it's done a little different, we learn why Baxter has gone evil, how he gets into the Foot, and why he starts working for the Foot.  It's mainly all in one issue (#3) and is really worth reading.

What are your thoughts on Dr. Baxter Stockman from each series?
Which one do you like best and why?
Which one did you not like, and why?
If you could change one thing about Baxter Stockman what would it be?

I best know Baxter from the original cartoons that aired so i can't say which i really like best, but he's a neat villian overall i think. Though i do have to say i like the sound of the Dream wave comics, i love knowing the history of the characters.

As for changing anything about him, can't say i know what i would change off the top of my head, just don't let him get a hold of our turtles!

Baxter Stockman is a WONDERFUL villain.  He was in the first show I ever saw of TMNT "A Things About Rats".. though to me, he was a best villain he was human.  And that goes for every series.   I was very interested when he got turned into a fly with the original series... though when his mind started to disappear... "Surgar... surgar..."  it just really annoyed me that they took the mind of this great character away like that.  With the original comics, loved issue #2 with him in it... though in Volume 2 got weirded out by him turning himself into a robot.

The new series has to be my favorite Baxter Stockman... even though his body keeps changing and he just won't die, he's still got his wit and brains.  He's still there as the evil guy we all got to know.  He just keeps looking different.  His lastest robot body is my favorite since he became a brain.   I still perfer him human (really I liked it when he was down to one eye).

My least favorite Baxter would be the later seasons of the original series, when Baxter was a fly and basically had a robot telling him what to do.  "Baxter, isn't the Shredder that you want your revenge on?" - Robot  "Surgar... Shredder?  Surgar!" Baxter.   It just wasn't the same Baxter.  True he was funny and they were good episoides... though they just didn't make it as my top favorite Baxter Stockman episoides.

If I could change one thing about Baxter I would leave him Human.  I'd do this because I just find him as a much more realistic villain.  He seems more of a threat to me, because of this.  Like he can walk around with humans while the Turtles can't, he can be famous and get people to feel he's doing the right thing, while Turtles can't?   Baxter was famous, though has the news noticed his changes or that he's gone?  What happened to the 'Famous Dr. Stockman" side of the character?   I'm sure if he showed up how he looks now, it would make the news.

Wow, I'm surprised this isn't getting more replies...  now I'm wondering if this topic should be one updated a month or not.... comments on that are also welcomed here now.  (I really thought a topic like this, would give us a chance to talk about characters we love and hate... though if people are not interested, I don't want to push something to strong.)

The Foot  Please PM me or reply here on what you think of the "Villain of the Month" idea The Foot

Hi all, That illustration of Baxter is the one I saw when I auditioned for the role. It was in b & W and had two lines that related to the mousers episode. Naturally I had not a clue as to what all this was.-SCOTT

That's really cool that it was the first thing you saw on him.  Truthfully that's what I first saw too... I was at Mirage a few months before the show as being released and they had the Character design sheets there.  Dan was working on coloring them in the computer office, so I got to look through some of them.  Infact if I'm correct he was coloring Baxter... that was back in Nov. 2002 so I'm not sure.

There's always cool ways of learning stuff, have to amit being dragged into something this big and just learning about it is a cool way of learning Wink   I know of many others in TMNT that have felt the same way, they don't know how big it is, till they get the job.  That was really how a lot of people felt back in the early 90's... they didn't know what they were getting into and bomb it took off as one of the #1 TV shows around the world.

I personally like the villian of the month idea! It gives more of an insight to the villian, gives people a chance to learn more about them, which i think is great to be able to see more into the villian and not just label him as a "bad guy".

With out our villians, there would be no reasons to have our turtles or any other character we look to as hero's to stand as being hero's. But we still don't want to push a topic that not many people are going to look at *sighs*. Maybe if we make it villain of every three months or something like that, it'd give more people time to see and comment on it.

I really don't want it to die, learning more about the villians is a great way to get to know them (Hey, knowing the bad guys is fun!).

Every 3 months might work.  That'd mean Baxter would be up till December 1st.   So he'd have September, October, and November.

Anyone else have any comments about this, or ideas?

I'm so slow XD

What are your thoughts on Dr. Baxter Stockman from each series?
I've only seen Baxter from the original cartoons and of course, Baxter from the new toons. It was only up to a few years ago I even knew Baxter was originally an African American and not some... coward XD. Yeah, Baxter from original toons = wimpy, whiny lil human... well until he turned into a fly! Then he was just annoying to me, lol. You felt sorry for him, but.. that's only how far it went for me. I REALLY like new-toon-Baxter. Happy/Smile (Anime Style) Deranged and always comes back for more. Yeah, I'm sure that gets annoying too, but.. oh well XD

Which one do you like best and why?
Gah... I just answered it in my first statement Razz New-toon-Baxter because he kicks butt. A little nutty, but hey.. that makes it more enjoyable. Oh, and he seems more real to me this way.

Which one did you not like, and why?
Old-toon-Baxxy because he reminds me of my mother, ahahaha. (Why, yes...! She is a fly XD)

If you could change one thing about Baxter Stockman what would it be?
Hey, fella, just admit defeat because you can't beat the Turtles. JOIN THEM. >D

I forgot to add a version of Baxter Stockman, I've thought about it a few times but never got around to getting a picture.  Though since the Month is almost over I gotta give this Baxter Stockman credit as well...

The Coming Out of Their Shells Tour Baxter.

A crazy take on the cartoon version of Baxter Stockman, though he had gray hair and was a this short little guy jumping around on stage he was still another version of Baxter.

Atleast 2 of my all time favorite episodes from the original toon pertained to good old Bug Boy Baxter!

The first was "Bye, Bye, Fly" when he found that interdimensional spaceship which had an AI computer that helped him exact revenge on the TMNT and Shredder via a transmutation gun. Michaelangelo got zapped into a gerbil while Shredder was changed into a fly. Rocksteady and Bebop sought to retrieve the gun, same as the turtles so they could return their respective comrads back to normal.

About a year afterwards, the show moved to CBS Saturday mornings and on the second weekend of the series run, "Sone of Return of the Fly" aired. In the episode, Stockman returned from the dimensional limbo he had been trapped in since his previous appearance thanks to the help of the computer he salvaged from the wrecked shapeship. He quickly managed to take over Channel 6 and captured the TMNT, tying them up in a clock tower where they would meet a most amusing fate unless the Shredder came to finish them.
