Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 was the first Ninja Turtle DVD ever out there. It came out to the mid-late 90's, and was a hit to a lot of TMNT fans with a cool little maze game and the option to watch the movie Wide Screen. Since this movie has come out thousands of other DVDs has come out, a lot with cool features like interviews, concept art, and story boarding. Though the TMNT movie DVD sits with very few features. In this topic, talk about when you first got the TMNT movie on DVD (If you only have the VHS, feel free to share that story with us instead). And let us know what you woudl change on the TMNT movie DVD if you had the chance. - What Features would you add? - What differences would you do with the case? - Would you release it alone or with the other two movies only?

Eh, these TMNT DVDs are pretty spartan. I'd add some actual content, namely deleted scenes and some featurettes with the development staff and/or KE and PL.
With the cartoon flourishing and everything I'm surprised they haven't gone back and given us special edition TMNT DVDs already. They gave us the boxset... but that's just the 3 movies under 1 roof and the DVDs as-is.

Yeah, I was disappointed when the box set came out that they didn't add anything, I'd love to see some behind the scenes from the movies. Like "Behind the Shells" that's a good one from Showtime done back in 1991, it touches not only the movies but also the creation of the Turtles. An edited version of it was even realeased on VHS. Though I'd love to see the uncut version used on the DVD, that would be cool. Along with TV spots like "Good Morning America" or "Entertainment Tonight".
Interviews with the cast and crew would be really cool. Esp to not just do interviews of what they did there, but where they've gone with their life and if the TMNT movie made a difference with their life.

Totally. The content is *already out there*, so it's not like it's a matter of them spending money to create some from scratch (although with TMNT I and II being the highest grossing movies of 1990 and 1991, you'd think it'd be swell of them to do so). All they gotta do is stick them on the DVDs.
Can't beat the price of the box set, though... basically 3 movies for the price of one.
And those mini-games from the TMNT DVDs... the ones where you pick which New Line movie which brief scene is from... horrible, terrible.

I think I might HAVE the Behind The Shells on VHS around somewhere amongst my VHS copies of the movies. Dad bought it as a surprise for me when he got #2. Would be great to have that on DVD.
Honestly, I'd like to see cut scenes, hell, I'd like to see a director's cut, especially of Movie #1.
And if I were to put games on the DVDs, I'd do something good at least. The maze game was cute, but that pick the New Line film? What does that have to do with TMNT? At least put a good trivia game on there or something.
Or some DVDs put soundtracks on there, actually, I've heard of that being done. That'd be cool, have some of the songs on there, or some music videos.
There's an idea...music videos...
And no, I'm not talking about Ninja Rap. *sweatdrop*

You're right TN, music videos would be nice esp the two that were already done!
I'd love to see both the music videos for "Turtle Power" and "Spin that Wheel" as a specail feature on the TMNT 1 DVD!

Real quick reply here, I should be running out the door. Blasted downstairs neighbors had a party, smashing bottles in the street, so I overslept, but anyhow... To answer the other two questions... The case...it's all right. Movie 1s, that is. 2s and 3s were better done, though of course, they came out much later. Still, I'd do something different with the front covers, instead of just recycling the same ones that were on the VHS release covers. The cover I'd LOVE to see for #3 would be the one that I have on the cassette(I have the CD, but it was bought second hand and missing its top cover, unfortunately ), the red background with the TMNT in the samurai armor, riding horseback with I believe Donnie carrying the scepter. Far as releasage...I'd probably do both. A box set for those who want to buy a box set('cause box sets usually ARE cheaper in the long run to buy than getting one at a time), and single releases for those who don't want the boxed sets or, like me, don't always have the cash to buy a big box set as is the case with anime. I rarely have $80 to blow on a box set, so I end up buying one at a time, pain as it is. But since there's only three TMNT movies, unless they did a really really really spiffy ooze-canister metal case or something really really fancy, I doubt they'd cost even $50 in a box set. And blast it...I had another thought in here as to something else I'd put in as a special feature with these...and the thought died in my head. I'm getting a bit more awake now, and it's gotten buried with thoughts of what's ahead for today. Well, shoot. I can't remember. Oh well, if I think of it later today, I'll jot it down and post it when I get back. Gotta run!

lmao, that figures. I go to finish getting ready and I bloody think of it. Oh well, at least I didn't have to try to remember while we were busy today.*grin* Widescreen versions! I know #1 came out with it(kinda weird how they did it, one of the older ways, I have some other DVDs that were older releases that do this), putting the DVD in one side or the other for widescreen or normal view(obvioiusly, now, they usually have a menu to choose between widescreen and regular)... But I can't recall DVD 2 and 3 having this feature. I don't think they did. Correct me if I'm wrong, been awhile since I've watched 2 or 3, but I don't recall ever seeing either of those in widescreen, and I always get my movies in widescreen if I can get 'em. There's always little things that seem insignificant that get cut out in the cut-down version that they release that's fit for the TV set until you see it in widescreen. Suddenly odd little things(a hand or hearing someone talk that sounds like they're offscreen and they're not, a blooper, something funny, etc...) that you notice and wonder "What the heck?" makes sense when you see the widescreen 'cause you see what's going on. If 2 and 3 didn't do a widescreen on their DVD releases, I'd really like to see that, too. Ok, NOW I've gotta go. lol. Later!

TMNT 2 and 3 do have wide screen on them. When you hit play on the DVD it shows wide screen or full screen. Usually you just have to hit enter/play again to get it to play the wide screen, press the down arrow to choose full screen if that's what you want.
I usually let them play on Wide Screen, I perfer that myself.. just wish I had the cool TV to watch them on like that *G* I think it'd be better to have a wide screen TV than having the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

I Paid $70 for these three movies and was very upset to see that TMNT 1 looked worse they my chewed by vhs version, very very disapointed. TMNT 2&3 were good because they were digitized, they had some special features but not enough, Both had full and wide screnn witch was great. Another thing that i was upset about with TMNT 1, was that it was double sided, witch sucks because it makes it feel like a very cheap dvd, witch i guess it is but it should not be. I would have liked to have seen DVD comatary that would have been great!!!

Wow, you paided a lot for that set. I didn't pay that much for the set I got, and was still disappointed by it.... seeing it was only the three movies I already own... no added features. Who all thinks we should put together a letter, with requests, and a petition to the company that owns the rights to the movie DVDs? Have a goal of trying to get a release with features done by Summer of 2007, to catch the new fans that come in through the new movie?

Ahh, ok, thanks for correcting me on that, I couldn't recall if that had widescreen or not. lol, nevermind, that's already been done. However, yesterday while Earl and I were heading out to work the booth at Bug Days, I was telling him 'bout this topic and we thought of at least one other thing that we thought would be neat to put on there. On my DVD copy of SW Ep 2, they put in all the trailers(a lot of DVDs do this, actually that I've seen), and all the commercial TV spots that they did. I'm definitely going to have to dig up my movie DVDs if I haven't done so already since the move, and look through them again. I can't recall if they put trailers on there or not. Still, it's another idea I've seen other DVDs do amongst special features, putting in original trailers and commercial spots. I can still recall a couple of the original TV commercials for 1 and 2 that I haven't seen in years and would like to see on a DVD, just for nostalgia.

I remember buying the first movie on DVD back in 2002. It was actually the first DVD I had ever purchased, and I had to watch it at my cousin Joe's house cause I didn't even have a DVD player yet. I loved the french voice dubs for that movie, especially during the little dance number Don and Mike do.

Heh, I got the TMNT DVD before I had a DVD player as well. Hehehe I hated not having a DVD player for it, but I really wanted it. I have the movies (all 3) on Laser Disk and I've never had a LD player.

I'd like to see commentary, I'm a sucker for behind the scenes info. You know that obnoxious person that will tell you "You know in this scene he actually did this..." and things like that? Yeah that's me. I adore useless trivia!
As for the release the only way I'd buy it in a box set would be if the case was amazingly cool. I don't like the second movie so you'd have to give me some really great reason to buy all three.
Stupid random fact: My family had three copies of this movie on VHS. My siblings had a copy, their mother boxed it up and "lost" it so they bought another copy. When our parents married I brought my copy and they found their lost one, giving us three. I ended up giving one to a friend but the family still has the other two. Also I just bought it on dvd a couple weeks ago. O_O
