It is very interesting hearing from you guys...but see...the difference between what you guys did, and those girls getting creeped out, and what usually gets to me, at least, is the fact these guys are usually at least ten years older than I am, they think I'm younger than I really am, and there's just absolutely NO respect in their manner. Or they're in positions of power and supposed respect, like one of my middle school teachers...he'd always run his hand over my hair every time he saw me. *shudders*

A big part of it is also perception and personal limits. I tend to be really easy going, and I can usually tell when a guy's being unreasonable and when it's harmless flirting...most girls can, but there are always the ones who are over sensetive...there are also times when a girl's more paranoid about it, according to what's going on in her life at the time.

We're really lucky, too...that we CAN talk about this stuff, and we do have the option to defend ourselves...there are cultures out there which don't allow a girl the right to control what happens to her...if she's raped, it's her fault, if guys torment her, it's her fault.

At the same time...with all the PC, it's gotta be hard being a guy, too...I mean, isn't it kinda hard needing to watch what you say or do, 'lest the wrong person takes it wrong at the wrong time?

Hehe...yeah...can ya tell this is a favorite topic of mine? Gender issues? Wink

I agree with HLM.
There's being younger and making some mistakes you learn from. And then you apologize and you don't repeat it.

But there's having gotten to an age one should know better, and those type of people who are true perverts. And those are the really scary people I don't like, either.

Well said, Leo...far better than I could in my current state of mind. *G*

There're also the dangerous ones...like the one who tried following me home and was trying to be all grabby when we were still on the bus together. Really scary.

I feel sorry for your perdicaments, girls. Sadly there are alot of jerks out there who give the rest of us nice guys a bad rep. Infact I used to be friends with a guy no more than a decade older than me and he was one of the most obnoxious womanizers I've ever seen, yet somehow he managed to woo and befriend just about every pretty looking girl around us! It was the most disgusting display of sexist behavior I've ever seen in my young life and I sometimes regret ever falling in with such a manipulative shmuck!

Oh..., I've had my share of creepy guys..., in conventions and in life otherwise...,

I know one guy who used to be a friend of mine but just managed to get creepier over the years and now I don't even wanna be near him.

One year at a Con, I was dressed as Zelda and had a creepy little Link boy start to follow me around so that's what he was called, and I still see him at like, every Con I go to! And he still dresses as Link.

A creepy Link guy?
LOL!
If it's the same one another group of cosplayers has declared as a Stalker Creep...I wouldn't be surprised.

Ah yes, Conventions.
A place where you can find great fans, meet new people...but always there has to be a couple of really scary stalker or freaky types.

Those who know Leah Nardo would find this amusing, because if you do know about Leah, then you know weird things will always happen to her....she was wearing a pair of red pants, and some guy just came up and grabbed her butt. Another time at a Con, she got grabbed from the front for no reason. I know she slugged the second guy, and I think she about slugged the first guy.
If she told you the stories, it would be much funnier, because I can't remember the details of the verbage exchanged with those creeps.

*snicker* And, with Leah, there's probably a really funny story to go along with the grabbing/punching. I mean, this is someone who tried to give CPR to a squirrel!

Leah stories = amusing...always. Wink

I get my share of the perves myself.  I work in retail part time and I've had guys shopping with their wives asking me on dates.  It's gotten to the point where I get hit on if I just walk next door for food.  I've actually have started wearing a fake wedding band to make it seem like I'm married.  That keeps some of them away.  It sadly doesn't help at school since I live on campus.  My roommate and I have both had these creepy guys who work in the area where we get food tell us that he wants to steal us and someone else has said to us that we'd make beautiful children with him (talk about being blunt).  I also work in the customer service office of a major mall chain and I've had the joy of being told that I "have a sexy voice" over the phone and the guy was telling what apparently my "voice was doing to him" and he called for directions... Shocked

Believe me, I can't help but laugh at stupid guys like that at the end of the day.  I have a million stories I can tell but I won't bore everyone with them since no one wants to hear all of them.

I recommend just ignoring them or telling them out right to go away if they get too much.  Either that or hand them off.  Trust me when I say it helps to pass them off to someone who has no problems telling them off.  I've done it before (Thank you to the associates who are old enough to be my mother!) and it tends to work well.

I can still remember my first day on the job for a school work experience term (which turned into a career). Met with the HR lady, she went over some points, etc...

Including advising me never to be in a room alone with one of the guys in the office. When this is only the 2nd job you've ever had, that's really unnerving to hear. I personally never had a problem with him, but, in hindsight, I will definitely admit that her advice creeped me out enough to taint my opinion of him.
