DJ or LJ

Hiya everyone,

I know a lot of us have Deadjournals and Livejournals and I'm curious what people perfer.   Both are almost the same type of set up, worse thing is you can't friend someone on DJ if you're an LJ user.  Though I have a lot of friends that have one or the other, some have both.  

So this poll is nothing big, it's not sayone is better than the other because both seem like the same type of deal.   It's just to see what is perfered about it in the TMNT community and the whys.

I perfer DJ, mainly because I found it first.  And the reasons I rant in my journal are usually depressing blah reasons when I need to breath and let something out.  Like about my car, my arm and back when the journal started up, my worries about some of my good friends.   So the theme deadjournal fit me more.   Though I didn't even know about livejournal until I was reading the FAQs on DJ at one point, than from time to time people would point me out to it.  It wasn't till 2004 that I got an LJ account and I still barely use it.


So please share here, you don't have to say your user name.  Just your likes and dislikes about the two different sites and why you perfer what you do.  If you don't use a journal, feel free to comment as well here what you think about online journals.  This is an open discussion.

I, too, have a DJ & LJ, but DJ is the first place I posted and is the first place I update and the first place I check. I copy/paste my DJ posts to LJ. The only reason I have LJ is because there were some friends that weren't on DJ.

As of right now, I have no intention on getting myspace or blogger or any other only journal. Two's plenty for me, I don't have THAT much to say!

I'm a total LJ junkie.  132 icons, permanent account, custom mood theme, I update at least once a day (except on weekends), it's just sick.  *L*

I have a DJ but I never use it, which is a shame because it's whatever version of "early adopter" they have.  What I don't like about DJ is the fact that it's so... well, dead.  I tried to get really into it but while I found it really easy to find great active communities and good friends on LJ I found it a lot tougher on DJ.  Part of why I love my LJ so much is my friends and the communities I'm in so without that I had no reason to come back.  As it is right now I can refresh my friends page every ten minutes (generally less) and get new posts.  At DJ I'd be lucky if I'd see a new post in an hour... or several.

I found LJ first but do have an account on both LJ and DJ. I just prefer to use my LJ journal for live stuff and my DJ for roleplaying stuff.

I had to reply and say Livejournal, since Michaelangelo got it for me.  Though the reason Michaelangelo picked it, was because it was free and no codes were needed.   So far I like Livejournal and hope to have many posts there.

Oh if anyone needs codes I think I still have some DJ ones left... but I still encourage people to use LJ.

I use LJ for rants and other stuff..., but not a whole lot, I use it sometimes, but i keep a real journal, so I write it in it every single night unless I'm somewhere else.

Livejournal for me, simply because I found it/started using it first. Actually I didn't even know about Deadjournal until Ivey mentioned she had one. I never got one though, because I was already obsessed with LJ, so I didn't think I needed another journal heh. Just like how my cousin bugged and bugged me to get a myspace, I did but I never use it. Seriously, I've never made a post or anything there, and I've only visited it like 3 times. I love my LJ though, I adore my layout and mood theme an all my awesome icons (most made by onna lol) and make 2-3 posts in it daily XD If you have an LJ, feel free to friend me, but let me know so I can friend ya back because it is friends only (people i didnt know were giving me smart mouthed comments, you know how that goes). My user name there is ebonystarfire. Though I may change it soon. I'll let ya know.

I went to LJ first when people at Mikey's forum said I should find a place to rant about real life issues.  I went and checked it out and use it the most.  It's a free account, but I've been debating on getting a paid account to switch my icons around.  I'm starting to get tired of staring at that ugly mug up there.

Come to the paid side!  We have extra icons, custom mood themes and um... other stuff I don't really use.  

One of these years I'll finish my mood theme and put it up on the tmnt_icons community but I'm lazy.  That thing has been unfinished for months.

Livejournal for teh mouse! I started my online blogging with LJ over 5 years ago although I do have a Deadjournal.. which is never used, the poor thing. I used to have a Ujournal when it was active (not sure what happened to it), but nowadays, you'll find me in LJ-land only.

I never could understand my Live Journal, but I do have myspace. I was offered to join Live Jounral but I never understood it, then I tried something like Live Journal but my ex found it and posted several nasty comments about me.

I voted LJ, just 'cause people tend to comment there more...but I still have my DJ, and I'll probably keep it...I just like it better for some reason. *shrugs*

As for myspace? 'Eh...it's ok. I've got one of those, too, but I like the settings on LJ and DJ better...myspace is way too big to have me wanna post anything outside of random quizzes...way too many irritating teenyboppers, too...only really have it to keep up with old HS buddies.

LJ was the first place I signed up to, just so I could posts comments on other people's journals.  Then pretty soon, I started to really like using my LJ to ramble about stuff, and to get to know my other fanfriends on a non-fandom basis too.  I prefer to just use LJ for my journal and everything, because since my RL has gotten so busy, I rather keep it simple.

Then, I discovered RPing on LJ is really fun too.  Been hooked into this one community for almost a year now.  

As for MySpace, it's been all over the news now that this place has become a "shopping mall" for a lot of online sexual predators.  I imagine other journals are also just as likely, but MySpace gets the most activity.  I imagine that's due to the higher numbers of teenage girls and guys posting all kinds of pictures and stuff of themselves there.

Whereas, with LJ and DJ, you can select who you friend, and have locked posts and filters to control who loks at your stuff.  I personally love the F-lock features, cause I really don't want random strangers to know everything about me!

Actually, MySpace has that as well now too. For example, I can't look at some journals of my friends until I log in but I can see other's journals without logging in.  There are also filter locks now that make accounts private if they are under a certain age, which includes pictures profiles, etc. I know this because I had found my sister's friend who is only 13 on there via her older brother's page.

And the user has to approve who is listed as their friend too. Yes, you can get messages from random people, but you can choose not to reply or whatever.

I've gotten to where I use it more than my Deadjournal. *shrugs*
