Phoenix Movie Reviews: Slither 4/8/06

Heh, I guess I'll just start reviewing movies I've seen recently in theaters.

Saw this one Saturday afternoon and wow.... talk about much better than expected!!!

I've learned lately to keep your expectations low when it comes to movies, that way you won't be disappointed when Hollywood churns out crap like it has been the past 5 years or so. I knew going into the film that it was suppose to be a Horror Comedy, a B-Movie that doesn't think of itself any higher than a B-Movie. Normally this equals disaster. NOT THIS TIME!! To my surprise I was jumping, but also laughing at appropriate times!

This movie isn't the greatest end all be all of B-Movies, but its darn close. The cast worked very well together. The script wasn't too corny and wasn't too serious. The special effects weren't top of the line, but they weren't cheap-o plastics. This has been the film I've been waiting to see this year... something all around enjoyable from all aspects and not over compensating in one area (such as with a cast of superstars or with over the top special effects). The gross out scenes were kept down to what you saw in the previews really. Yeah there was the occassional mutilated animal, but it didn't look real enough to make you sick. The comedy and timing were just perfect.

For those who know him, Nathan Fillion may very well be the next Bruce Campbell. You know how hard that is to say that?? I love Bruce! But Nathan is slowly winning me over as a B-Movie King. First saw him in Firefly TV series, then he was on Buffy for awhile as an awesome bad guy, and then he returned to the Firefly role in the Serenity movie. He just has the perfect delivery.

I give this film 4 out of 5 stars.

I've been debating seeing this movie cuz I like cheesy horror movies every once and a while. However, the trailers I've seen seemed a little too over the top for me. But I just might go see it now Phoenix. Thanks for the review!


Speaking of horror comedy/b-movies and not to take away anything from this movie, I want Feast to finally be released!!!! Especially since I watched all the Project Greenlight episodes that showed them make this movie.

Yeah, I don't think the trailers really did Slither justice. I was afraid is was gonna blow like those Sci-Fi channel movies, but it really turned out well.

As for Feast, yeah, I'd like to see that too.

I've seen the previews for this movie, now i'm definately wanting to see it in theaters before it's realeased on DVD.
