Please use this topic to share your personal opinion on the best conventions to attend for whatever reasons, be it the best prices, closest to home, most TMNT guests and/or fans...whatever. Try not to go too off topic though, this *is* a TMNT board after all. I hope the mods don't mind I made this topic, if so please feel free to lock it and move it else where...I think it is a good topic to have though, because it informs others of cons they have yet to attend, or if a con they are considering is worth attending. Very Happy/Big Grin Please EVERYONE remember though, that comments posted here are the person's personal OPINION. Thanks!

Thanks for starting this topic here.  I'm still just needing opinions from others on which is the best anime con to attend, as in fan and TMNT VA gatherings; AnimeNext, AnimeNorth, Anime Toronto, or AnimeVegas?  I can't go to them all, or if I did, not all in the same year.

Yeah, good idea. It's one thing trying to review the posts on the Cons for planning and then the results of the Cons. It's a bit of work to read through all that and try to decipher--is this one I might consider going to?

One thing that would help is some of the cons descriptions on these boards are vague on their location. On the first post that contains the basic con's info about dates and guests and website links--it would really be helpful to post the location of the con, too. So we don't have to go to the website to get that quick info.

So in here, it would be nice if people could post some general info about costs. Such as average hotel cost per night. What does the con's membership/badges/pass cost?
How far ahead do you want to register?
Did you have any problems with the con's registration or the hotels? Or were they superb experiences?
How well were the signing lines handled? Some cons may get good guests but they are known for being really nasty on how they handle the signings. (I could mention a certain group running some LotR cons....)
How many panels/events does the con have? Enough to keep you entertained when you've finished with the dealers?
How many exhibitors/dealers (in general numbers, such as 20, 50, 100+)? What sort of stuff was for sale?
What is the eating situation at the con or around the area?
What is the situation for airport/transportation?
Would you suggest this con if you were going to travel across the country to go to it, or only if you lived near it?
Etc.

If anyone ever needs info on San Diego Con, I'll be happy to give a lot of info on that one. But other than some Lord of the Rings events and cons, I haven't been to any other conventions for the past few years.

Hiya,

This is a really good topic it's kind of like the poll I put up towards people's 'favorite conventions' to see what people had to say about conventions.

And I agree anything said here can only be a matter of opinions... nothing more since these are fans who've seen the cons from different views than each other.   Though it's interesting to see how people feel about the cons.

About the first topic on the convention page, it is a lot easier to give a link to the web site about the convention than to go on about panels and so on.  Here we are doing something different than a lot of boards seem to have which is the calandar topic area, just for these gatherings.  I could start adding the where and so on, though usually when I'm doing events I'm going through an anime page area checking out where guests are being listed to be at.... than putting that info here... so I'm going over around 50 different conventions at once, and list the 2 or 3 here that has TMNT guest, or update the ones here that were already listed.

I'll try and make sure that the first post has the price, place, and when.. along with which TMNT Guest.  Though for panels please check out the offical web site for that convention.  About reviews on what we think of the con, a lot of the cons I post up is just from a list.  Meaning I haven't gone to, or I'm not going to.  So I can't give personal experenice on all the cons.   When I can, I usually do.   And if people want, we can put up in the offical event topic, a link to past con reviews in the memories section.  So people can see what people thought durning that time of the con.

The events section is really to plan future events, getting out ideas for hotels and who needs people in hotel rooms (this has come really in handy with Anime Next for me, Thank you again Crittle for helping me there!!!), and planning other things around the event.  Which we also try to do, it's usually not just convention plans that we come up with in the replies.  Like again with Anime Next, for awhile there we were going to try and get a play on Boardway in for Thursday night, though most everyone who was part of that, couldn't come up with the money in time so we took that off of the list of things we plan to do.   Though still Thursday I'll like to spend the day in NYC with anyone who wants to go with me, for a tour of different parts of the city that are TMNT connected (Including Ray's Pizza which was Roy's in TMNT 2).

What I'll do to help people with reviews on if the con was good or not, is to post links to the 'Review topics' for those cons that have already been reviewed.   Sadly a lot of our reviews that was on "Ninja Turtles Network" is gone now... there was a lot of good reviews there.   So most of the review topics here started back with Toronto Con.   So starting from now on, in the first post I'll make sure to add that link for the "Review" of the past year of that con.

Now onto the topic at hand:

Crittle asked about favorite conventions and why they're good.  I'll list the cons in order of how it fits to me.

Most TMNT Guest:

Tied between  Anime Next and Toronto National Expo

Closes to home:

Motor City Comic Con and Youmacon

Cheapest:

This has changed each year... cheapest usually is the closes since you don't pay for gas or hotel for long trips.  Though at the same time, the cost of the conventions go up.  Like Motor City Comic Con is now $50 for a 3-day pass, and to get autographs it's $20 + per an autograph.   So that could add up too.  For me right now, I would have to say Youmacon is cheaper for me, if I registered before June 30th, it'll be $30 for a 3-day pass.

Fan meet up:

Anime Next is usually one of the biggest fan meet up cons on the East coast... it usually also includes a hotel party with the fans, and going into NYC with friends as well.  This is one of my favorite fan meet ups.

Other:
Now I'll like to add in that "New York City Comic Con" is a new convention and is really GREAT!  It was cheap when it came to the admission price, a lot of AWESOME guest, and is right in the city so you can get around and see different things while there.   Worse part is traveling and finding a place to stay.  For cost wise.  Though this is a con I also recommend.

Every con I've gone too has been Wonderful memories, so picking out the best, con is nearly impossable, because so many have great things attached to them.  Only con going down hill for me right now is "Motor City Comic Con" even booths I go there to see are talking about not going there after this year, so I'm not sure if I'll be keeping up with them if certain dealer booths stop.  This year I volunteered to work for them, just to avoid paying the $50/weekend pass fee.

I moved this topic to the memory area, because the event area is for calandar topics only, and this is reviewing past cons to help people figure out which cons might be good in the future.  So this is going by memories.   I really do like topic so let's keep it going. Happy/Smile

Thanks Ivey for all that info.  I was thinking AnimeNext was still one of the bigger ones, when it comes to get-togethers.

I do agree with Leonardo on having more info on the location in each thread in the Events area.  Just a quick listing like what state, city, maybe even the address if you can get that much info.  Cuz as I said before about one of the cons you posted up, you didn't list the location in the thread and the site didn't list it's location either.  So if you or anyone else happens to know it's location and it's not stated anywhere, be sure to include that in the header.  That's all.  I do agree with you on the other con info can be found online on each individual con website, or of course the reviews from past experiences ppl can post up in here, in the Memories area.

I started to list locations and the cost in the new posts I've been putting up today.  Been searching out the comic cons to see which ones of those will have TMNT guest there.  There's a lot of convention web sites I go too, and only a handful of them get even listed here.  So this is a lot of work to try and do as much as I can in posting TMNT events.

If anyone knows of cons I haven't mentioned with TMNT guest, please do let me know or start a topic for it yourself.   Other things that could be put in events is if fans just want to do a gathering, coming up with the date and place and what will go on there.   Events and meet ups is for any type of TMNT events.  Happy/Smile

I don't know of any other cons off-hand.  But you could also look here for other comic book cons: http://www.comicbookconventions.com/conventions.htm

Thanks for the efforts, Mikey!
I think I need to clarify a bit...

I was hoping that you could just add the Location to the original post on the Con itself, along with the dates and general info you provide, exactly as you're doing it now.
Some conventions it is obvious where they are being held, but some are not, and those are the ones I would like to see the location listed.

THIS thread would be where we could get some critiques from people that aren't the stories and adventures from the Con they went to, but what the details were. So if someone wanted to travel from faaar out, they'd know if it was worth it or not to want to go.
That's where my suggested list of the kinds of information someone who would want to plan for going to a Con would want to know. About costs, difficulty or ease of getting there, food, etc.

Thank you, and everyone else willing to help on this. Because I really would like to go east again sometime, or at least get to visit some of the TMNT fans I either have not met, or haven't seen in years.
And as I said, I'd love to meet the VAs someday.

If I can only get to one event in one year, I try to make it San Diego.  That thing is just so big you can't possibly see it all, even in four days.  Even a guy like me who's not into a whole lot of different fandoms can prowl the floor and take in the panels from open to close for the whole weekend and still not get bored.  The downside?  It can get crazy-expensive, and there's not really much organization among the fans.  Of course, we're ALL going to be at the premiere of the TMNT trailer this time around, so that should at least be one time when everyone's going to be together.
