Hiya,
This is a really good topic it's kind of like the poll I put up towards people's 'favorite conventions' to see what people had to say about conventions.
And I agree anything said here can only be a matter of opinions... nothing more since these are fans who've seen the cons from different views than each other. Though it's interesting to see how people feel about the cons.
About the first topic on the convention page, it is a lot easier to give a link to the web site about the convention than to go on about panels and so on. Here we are doing something different than a lot of boards seem to have which is the calandar topic area, just for these gatherings. I could start adding the where and so on, though usually when I'm doing events I'm going through an anime page area checking out where guests are being listed to be at.... than putting that info here... so I'm going over around 50 different conventions at once, and list the 2 or 3 here that has TMNT guest, or update the ones here that were already listed.
I'll try and make sure that the first post has the price, place, and when.. along with which TMNT Guest. Though for panels please check out the offical web site for that convention. About reviews on what we think of the con, a lot of the cons I post up is just from a list. Meaning I haven't gone to, or I'm not going to. So I can't give personal experenice on all the cons. When I can, I usually do. And if people want, we can put up in the offical event topic, a link to past con reviews in the memories section. So people can see what people thought durning that time of the con.
The events section is really to plan future events, getting out ideas for hotels and who needs people in hotel rooms (this has come really in handy with Anime Next for me, Thank you again Crittle for helping me there!!!), and planning other things around the event. Which we also try to do, it's usually not just convention plans that we come up with in the replies. Like again with Anime Next, for awhile there we were going to try and get a play on Boardway in for Thursday night, though most everyone who was part of that, couldn't come up with the money in time so we took that off of the list of things we plan to do. Though still Thursday I'll like to spend the day in NYC with anyone who wants to go with me, for a tour of different parts of the city that are TMNT connected (Including Ray's Pizza which was Roy's in TMNT 2).
What I'll do to help people with reviews on if the con was good or not, is to post links to the 'Review topics' for those cons that have already been reviewed. Sadly a lot of our reviews that was on "Ninja Turtles Network" is gone now... there was a lot of good reviews there. So most of the review topics here started back with Toronto Con. So starting from now on, in the first post I'll make sure to add that link for the "Review" of the past year of that con.
Now onto the topic at hand:
Crittle asked about favorite conventions and why they're good. I'll list the cons in order of how it fits to me.
Most TMNT Guest:
Tied between Anime Next and Toronto National Expo
Closes to home:
Motor City Comic Con and Youmacon
Cheapest:
This has changed each year... cheapest usually is the closes since you don't pay for gas or hotel for long trips. Though at the same time, the cost of the conventions go up. Like Motor City Comic Con is now $50 for a 3-day pass, and to get autographs it's $20 + per an autograph. So that could add up too. For me right now, I would have to say Youmacon is cheaper for me, if I registered before June 30th, it'll be $30 for a 3-day pass.
Fan meet up:
Anime Next is usually one of the biggest fan meet up cons on the East coast... it usually also includes a hotel party with the fans, and going into NYC with friends as well. This is one of my favorite fan meet ups.
Other:
Now I'll like to add in that "New York City Comic Con" is a new convention and is really GREAT! It was cheap when it came to the admission price, a lot of AWESOME guest, and is right in the city so you can get around and see different things while there. Worse part is traveling and finding a place to stay. For cost wise. Though this is a con I also recommend.
Every con I've gone too has been Wonderful memories, so picking out the best, con is nearly impossable, because so many have great things attached to them. Only con going down hill for me right now is "Motor City Comic Con" even booths I go there to see are talking about not going there after this year, so I'm not sure if I'll be keeping up with them if certain dealer booths stop. This year I volunteered to work for them, just to avoid paying the $50/weekend pass fee.
I moved this topic to the memory area, because the event area is for calandar topics only, and this is reviewing past cons to help people figure out which cons might be good in the future. So this is going by memories. I really do like topic so let's keep it going.
