Ever since I heard about this while on my trip with Ivey, I've been on the same page as most people. The Turtles as aliens?! That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. But now that I'm home and I have time to really gather my thoughts and re-watch the short clip, I think we have all jumped the gun.
Michael Bay says "these Turtles are from an alien race". He doesn't say they ARE an alien race. It is now my belief that Michael Bay is stirring up controversy on purpose by choosing his words carefully. I now believe that Michael Bay is hinting towards the Utroms. After all in the Mirage origin it is the Utroms who created the mutagenic agent that caused the Turtles and Splinter to become their mutant forms.

Well, since the assumption is that they're working with Kevin on the movie, one can hope things won't go too far south, as the expression goes. I mean, a number of people were a little upset at the rearranging of the Turtles' history in the current comic, but that seems to be working out well, right? Maybe the alien thing won't be as horrid as we're envisioning. I suspect there is some intentional 'stringing us along' going on here and that people might be over-reacting a teeny bit... (I admit, when I first heard it, I was "NO" too...now, I've gotten to the point where I'm willing to see how it goes. There'll be time for indignant hatred later, once people know the facts)

Yeah, I agree about the alien thing. If they involve the Utroms, it may not be a bad idea at all. But once again, I'm going to wait and reserve judgment. If they don't use the Utroms, then it'll probably be stupid. And I hope they don't exclude Splinter in this movie either.

Well, on the upside, at least more people are talking about the upcoming movie than before and expressing their displeasure over it.

Hubby and I just learned of this last night. All we have to say is...
NO, NO, NO.
After what he did to Transformers, neither of us want him to have ANYTHING to do with the TMNT. And aliens?! Ugh! No! You can't call it TMNT if they're ALIENS, not mutants. Yuck.

A new comment, this time for Director Jonathan Liebesman. "I heard about it, and I'm glad there's such a passionate fanbase--I think that was good news for everyone--but literally, I've just been locked in a room with Kevin Eastman. I think what we're developing, the fans will love. I'm a fan, and I love what we're doing. It's a lot of stuff Kevin's been thinking about for a long time and just hasn't done. Anything we expand will tie right into the mythology, so I think fans will go apesh*t when they see it." http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/169959-exclusive-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-director-addresses-qalienq-backlash

Interesting. Although, wasn't Kevin the one that supported the Venus character in Next Mutation?

Yeah, but since Laird wants nothing to do with TMNT anymore, at least Eastman is on board with it. I'd rather one of the creators be overseeing things than neither of them doing it.
